Serious question, NOT being a smartass… is a bike not eligible for life once it has been homologated? I know Honda has not produced a 2-stroke since 2007, but the bike had been homologated at that time and I had just assumed once a bike had that status it would always have it? Not the case?

Once a bike is something like 5 years old you can't ride it anymore. So a 2018 YZ 250 is a no go, but an identical 2019 is.
Gotcha… I was unaware of that rule! Seems like a really stupid rule to enforce, but then again the AMA has never been particularly known for letting logic, common sense & discretion cloud their decision making! 😎

Actually the 2022/23 YZ250 is the most recent homologated YZ250.
Yamaha stopped paying for homologation on their 2 stroke for a few years so that’s why you didn’t see anyone trying to race them at all around 2017/2021.
They decided to pay again in 2022 since they made some changes to the bike.
Washougal dirt is just like North Island dirt, I was there in 2015, HH should go good if he manages to qualify after having to learn the track so fast.
Oh that’s pretty cool to see him coming over, he never post on Instagram so we don’t know what he is up to.
If he gets a decent bike that has a tuned ECU at least, he could do good.
I think Hamish and a few other fast kiwis are fast on the pumice tracks but when they leave the homeland it gets hard mentally as you have more fast guys and usually they don’t get good equipments overseas.
Same as Kayne Lamont! I knew Kayne a bit from a British friend that raced NZ National in 2015/2016 and Kayne was always pretty fast in NZ and OZ in 250 and when he went to England couple times he struggled hard even though he should of been much better.
Hamish did a season in England and did a few gps early on , he works full time as a builder and just races on the weekend. ,
Having been to Washougal , I don’t believe any track in Nz has dirt like that , our hard pack tracks are more clay

I had no idea there was a 5 year rule . Kinda silly . It would be great to see some KX , RM , CRs out there . There was a guy a few years ago in EMX 2 stroke that ran pretty good on an RM against the new stuff . Edit : I should say I didn't know there was homologation for the 2 stroke race .
So the only bike that is raceable is a 2022/23 YZ250??? Not even a new KTM??????? If so pretty sucking stupid!

Homologation rules should be percentage of manufactured not total number. The total number bullshit discriminates against small brands.
AMA rules are controlled by the AMA Board of Directors, can you guess who they are...
Just curious... what made you think the KTMs or Austrian bikes aren't homologated?
I don't know much about the 125 challenge besides watching part of one. The idea seemed pretty interesting. Why was it a clown show?
To promote buying new bikes,the older bikes can be ridden at certain races, no regulations. 2 stroke only, vintage. Etc.
For me it was too many old bikes and varying levels of skill the last time or two. Besides the fact of it being a 4 lap exhibition joke.
Would be really cool if peacock/nbc will keep it covered In one of the extra screens down in the bottom of the main race. Atleast the leader anyways…
