When the updated 2018 bike was released, it was in early January so it was similar situation to what KTM does with their “Factory Editions”. I’m not saying it is going to happen, but I suppose it’s not out of the question for them to release the info on a 2025 bike early.

The German saying „die Hoffnung stirbt zuletzt„ is pretty fitting here.

I‘m wondering if Suzuki is actually still producing RMZs. The numbers they sell are tiny and don’t justify a yearly production run. Maybe they did a last run with 10.000 units years ago, have them sitting in the warehouse without graphics and sell them until they‘re gone. Nothing has changed over the last few years other than graphics.

They have had the same graphics from '21 through '24. They don't even change the photos on the website, just update the model year and price.

Oh… so what I wrote makes even more sense. Sad! I never owned a Suzuki but was always impressed with what they’re works teams in moto and motoGP put up. They must have had a great engineering team in Hamamatsu.

Well, even if they did that, each model year they would need to change the 10th digit of the VIN stamped on the frame to differentiate it from the previous year, so they must have a way of addressing that if they are going to call it a new model each year.

They can’t change the VIN number, so that should tell the tale. Does anybody have an RMZ with a frame from 22?

That was my point - the 10th digit can't be the same from year to year and they be sold as different year models. So, if the frames and all other components were previously made, they are waiting until the current year to stamp them and assemble the bikes or they have a way of stamping the blank post-assembly.

I looked at the frame on my 2021 and I found a stamping other than the VIN that said 1922. Pre WW2!

Wow.

Shows how far ahead of their time they truly were.

Amazing.

Back then a kickstart was considered state-of-the-art.

But seriously what’s does the 10th digit say?

Also engine cases that are usually VIN stamped.

I just… I just don’t get it. Suzuki has to do one thing, and one thing only to stay relevant. Add an estart. Sure, all of you macho guys can say it’s not that hard to kick start… but why when estarts exist? I suppose y’all also want 4 strokes to go back carburetors too smh. (Side note - kick start a bike on a right hand off camber and tell me it’s no big deal)

We don’t want a PC pipe. We don’t want BNG. The bike is fine, just add an effing estart and keep pricing competitive. We will buy it. It’s not rocket science.

If a kickstart and a carburetor brought the price of bikes down another 1,000 bucks 2000 bucks out the door over efi and e start. Sign me up all day long. If I could walk out for 10 grand with a 250 and a 450 like. I did in 08 through 2011. I'm all for it.

It's hard to tell exactly what you're saying but i'll gladly pay an extra $1500 for e start and fuel injection.  My crf250r was $9300 out...

He's saying, two for the price of one.

Fuck dude, get your shit together.

I was under the impression the VIN number count started over each year. My 20 RMZ250 was an early manufacture's display model, the VIN ends in ...00004.

Found that Chinese copy of an rmz with a 250 motor. It has electric start 😅Screenshot 2023-07-12-17-41-30-204 com.android.chrome-edit

This would actually be a fairly smart business move. Even if it lasts a 6 year cycle and they make changes in 2025, the bike is still obviously competitive.

Also, updated platforms don't always mean better. See KTM.

It still confuses my little brain. If Suzuki released a brand new bad azz mx bike, it would sell out. Then more brand recognition to watercraft engines etc. I am a Honda lover. Having said that, factory Zuks look amazing. The twisted tea bikes are some of the best looking imo.

Okay, but where do the changes and updates for the RMZ come from at Suzuki? The dissolved their R&D Department for high performance motorcycles. No more racing, no more development on the GSX-Rs or RMZs…

Even if the Suzuki management decides they want a new bike now, it would take them years. Once you close R&D, the good engineers leave and the knowledge is gone. As much as I‘d would love to see a new RMZ, it ain’t happening.

GSX-R isn’t dead Suzuki are working on something for that (I purchased some stuff for Suzuki's R&D team recently and they bought over a bike a few weeks ago to fit said equipment on)... motocross on the otherhand... i haven't seen or heard anything

There are all these rumours floating around that Suzuki will go back to racing when Osamu passes away... i don't know how True any of that is though

The RM85 was discontinued in 2022 after a long run with no changes... I have a feeling they will probably do the same with the RMZ line up... unless motocross/supercross becomes widely popular again

Many bikes are discontinued in Japan, (just look at global Suzuki Japanese page) it doesn't mean they are not produced anymore on other markets! Regarding GSXR, rumours are that they are working on a new motor that will be be homologated for new Euro low emission rules.

But for now they are focused on the gsx8 R version as well as a different vstrom version more for road use.

There is plenty of rumours regarding Suzuki plans for road bikes and even electric bikes, but it's true there is nothing for the Motocross range.

There is something that intrigued me at the wsx in Birmingham, the bikes was supposed to be black and yellow, and it turns out that they were all yellow plastic. Did Suzuki asked the team to run only yellow?

They must be involved in a way or another.

Okay, cool! Good to hear there’s still some live in Suzuki.

Will they just bring it up to Euro 5 Standard or some really new stuff?

The shrouds and gas tank were both black. How much black were you expecting?

I always read your posts about Suzuki as I feel you are a credible source of info. I had no knowledge of the corporate ownership so I did a Google search Osamu Suzuki and even his wiki page points out his frugal and conservative ways. Seems to align well with what we see from Suzuki in America. Just thought it was interesting. Thank you

I don’t know how crédible I am

i just work for a company that was/is very closely affiliated with Suzuki… and have a few friends who work there

My local bike shop is run by a an ex Suzuki works mechanic/chamber designer and he told me that way back in the 80s when Suzuki quit motocross it was apparently osamu’s doing too (Apparently he doesn’t like bikes or racing that much)

In reality, it’s not just Osamus fault as it’s a bit more complicated than that … but he is easy to blame for the two wheel racing demise as he does weird things and is still a powerful figure in Hamamatsu despite being a billion years old

i think for new street bikes they will have to meet euro six but don’t quote me

as for motocross I really hope they do something the designs were all there and there are talented engineers left at Suzuki so they can shift them back

maybe a petition to Suzuki to actually do something would be helpful???

it sure was. it was announced over here in September /October 2022

they aren't making them anymore in japan (or taiwan .. .as i think they were made there from memory)

i am not sure if they will offer 2024 models (they weren't announced in suzuki's 2024 lineup)...i assume 2023 models were ordered before they were discontinued?

They have a way, they had a way in the 1970's. With the RE5 Rotary.

The RM85 was discontinued in 2022?

they aren't making them anymore in japan (or taiwan .. .as i think they were made there from memory)

i am not sure if they will offer 2024 models (they weren't announced in suzuki's 2024 lineup)...i assume 2023 models were ordered before they were discontinued?

I could be incorrect though

Suzuki made an announcement last year that the 85's were to be discontinued and even put it up on their website.

https://www1.suzuki.co.jp/motor/accessory/option_end/ (its been removed now)

it may just be a Japan only thing in regards to local sales only.... i will ask again on Saturday as I have to drop a shock shaft off at my local shop to get re-chromed

The shrouds and gas tank were both black. How much black were you expecting?

Rear fender and side panels were black too when skda have shown the new graphics for the wsx

Thank you

Regarding Suzuki's plan on road bikes, there is no need of sources! Many journalists have already a lot of information.

In the case of Motocross, it's very hard to believe one source or another. First because it's confidential...

Do you think that a guy that work at R&D is gonna tell you something about a prototype?

The other reason is that unless you see a bike that it is really a prototype with a rider on it, you can't tell that this bike really exist.

The triumph exist for example, so you can believe sources.

Remember before when some people that were good friend with someone working at JGR were talking about a brand new RMZ ...

Those rumours were pure speculations!Screenshot 2023-07-14-02-07-18-418 com.android.chrome
