86 another yr Micky Diamond got screwed . Much was the 86 National champ. 87 champ again & Bob was chosen for the des nations. Micky even raced a 87 125 gp & win by 2 min. Biggest Honda riders 1st star Marty Smith. Then RJ set the new standard for being a star. MC took it too another level.  Lammy is the biggest 125 rider . Henry would be 2nd.  AX TUF Honda

I can’t remember another time that a factory dropped a 2X champ? Dymond got a super raw deal from Honda. He would’ve been a good back up to Johnson considering what happened in ‘89.

Everyone forgot Mike Brown . Team Peak, privateer Honda, Honda of Troy, Cat Honda cr125 world championships & UK champion I think.  Euro 125 riders Alex Puzar style for miles 95 world champ. A great series that went down to the last moto against Chiodi. Jimmy Button was in the 95 world championship also. 95 had a crap ton of riders on the 95 cr125 in the GP,s.

8E3B4D3B-2CFF-4ACB-8B23-0D1E555B43FAJeff Stanton. 6 years racing for Honda (89-94) and 6 championships. Not to mention was the team manager for Honda for years afterwards.

Canard on a 2011 Honda, best looking year IMO paired with his perfect looking riding style.

First started paying attention to MX in 2001, and Ezra's CR250 always sticks in my mind as well.

Even though I’m younger, I think of RJ for some reason.

RC was statically the most impressive! I think of him in 04 on the four stroke.

Hard to not see MC either.

Gajser for me in the GP’s no one else comes close.

With out a doubt Honda has the most “it” guys throughout the history of this sport.

MC is the obvious answer, but when I used to go to the bike shop there was always promo for Miguel Duhamel.. and though I didn’t know anything about sport bikes as a kid I knew he raced Honda.

ML: What rider (singular) comes to mind when you think of Honda.

Vital Reader: Proceeds to list 17.5 riders.

To me it has to be a guy whose pro accomplishments are on a Honda and who was unquestionably the best of his era. Leaves me with Stanton. Such an underrated champion. Six titles in 4 years makes for a damn good resume.

The first rider to come to mind is Marty Smith.

Good point, but I referenced Yogi in an earlier post. Although he doesn’t meet that criteria he held a special place for being my childhood favorite. Maybe it’s nostalgia like a lot of others here

and his kits were the best lol

Your reason is valid, I just listed my criteria because they were exactly that "my" criteria.

Has John Natalie ever raced anything other than a Honda ATV though?

Dirtbike guys seem to jump around a little bit..

Doug Henry for me.

As a kid in the early 90's, there was a lot of "Henry and Honda" magazine media, and also the Terrafirma video was massive at the time. Was all very impressionable I feel. Smile

Gary Jones on those original Elsinore’s, with the homemade red, white and blue jersey. Those were the days 👍

Those guys were hard core animals.  I ain't kiddin' fellas...raw hide and spring steel.  Kinda like Barcia but not so nice.

I thought that bike built in Mexico they were in on was pretty good looking (AmEx?).  Too bad it was made of recycled beer cans and peanut butter.

Growing up in El Cajon in the 70's... It's Marty Smith for me. I can still picture him driving pulling into 7/11 on Washington in his Motocross Action Rider of the Year Toyota pickup. All of my friends just stood there in awe of his awesomeness.

I remember the mags talking about "High School Motocross" out in Cali.  My Bud and I went to the principal and showed the articles.  "Can we have a motocross team?"

I'll paraphrase, "Not NO...but HELL no).

To be honest...Marty said he didn't pay much attention to school...just to damn committed to moto.  I understood completely.

Pretty cool to think about though, if I had to link riders to brands off the rip these are who I tie them to, personally.

Yamaha: McGrath

Suzuki: Dungey
Honda: RC
Kawasaki: J Stewart
KTM: Langston

I'll never forget the local pro telling me I need to run low bars swept way back because that's what RC does even though I was almost 6' tall on an 85. Grinning

Most people think of Kawi and Suzuki for RC
