I assume by "YZ250" you mean "YZ250F" because I don't see any 2-strokes on that J and J page. I would have been interested in a good YZ250 deal.

i think what sucks even more now is if you buy a new bike every year now you cant recoup like you used to to buy the new one. like selling your old bike and annie up $1k and you got a new bike. my friend spent 7800 last year and sold the bike for 5600 i think. it would be nice to see the prices drop but im sure that will never happen

seriously

There are waaaay too many barely used bikes with ten or less hours that some poor non riding schlub paid 8 grand for that can be had for 3 grand all day long

I think everyone is seeing that unfold now. bike sales are in the toilet, and types of bikes not being offered.

OEM's will either figure it out or wait it out. have to see.

personally we race 2 strokes, cept the wife has a mellow dependabel crf 250x.

we like hondas so the kid has to race a "used" bike but it was barely used.

buying a new 450 at these costs I couldn't justify and barely afford......so it's not a thought.

I bought my 05 RM250 smoker in April of 07 for $2900. It was basically new. New tires new piston and rings new clutch new brakes new plastic with a fresh suspension revalve by Mike Weisner. With bikes like that floating around why buy new? I did however buy my 05 525 SX brand new a year old in April of 06 for $6200 otd. If I was going to buy another 4t I would like new, but am unwilling to pay more than $6000 again.

I bought a 1999 Rm 250 new for $5700 and my buddy bought a brand new RMZ 250 last year for $5600! Ten years went by and the price is the same! I think a 2010 YZF 450 retails for $9599 in Canada....I'll stick to the year olds.

Hey Audie, I'm in your area and know of two out of the three dealers that closed.
Midwest and Black Hawk. Who was the third? By the way, bought a brand new
Husky TC450 from Heinens in MN back in August shipped to my door for $4300.
They have brand new '08 TC250f's for $3200.

You got robbed on the RM. Retail should have been around 4800. I bought the first 05 YZ 250 from a dealer for 5200 OTD.

Most of you kind of got the wrong idea of this thread. I was asking what bikes have to cost to stop you from buying, not how much your last bike was. In other words, when I can't find a bike for less than 6k, I'm done. What is your cap? When is enough enough? I'm basically wondering how much farther bikes can come before they surpass what people can afford.

Buying new for me is to have a fresh start on a bike as fair as maintenance and learning any oddity. When you buy used, you get any problems or oddities they may or may not be told to you when you sell it. For long trail rides, you need this peace of mind so if something happens you only have yourself to blame. But if I had to list a price, for some reason $6500 would be my cap.

Here's an idea for dealers, if you captured a first top end/head build on us plan with your bike, you would sell more bike so people would half a peace of mind if it blows up, a professional will take care of it the first time so you could ride without so much worry. Just a thought.

Yeah I agree with you . I try and change every year due to the fact that you need a rebuild on the bike sometimes twice in the year. I had my last bike for nearly 2 years and it cost nearly £2000 on rebuilds and i still have an old bike and those rebuilds don't count towards anything when i trade it in. It only costs me £2000-2500 to change for a brand new bike so I figure that is the best option for me.

I cant set a cap, because since ive started buying new bikes (02' just out of high school) they have always gone up in price every year and every year ive made more money than i had the previous year. Im sure there will come a day when i say enough is enough i just dont know when that will be.
I think the the bigger problem with the oem's is not the price increases (though it is a problem) is the fact that they make way to many. This is why there are so many bikes for less than half of what they were a year and a half ago new on the showroom floor. By cutting production to a resonable rate the dealers would actually profit and everybody would get a lot more resale out of there bikes after riding them a year or two. Though who wants a $5000 used mx bike in theory?

The OEMs have moved the MSRP price up along w/ dealer cost BUT the profit margin has gotten SMALLER over the years.

With the 2010 450s MSRP over $8000, NEW bike sales have SLOWED,stopped. It wasn't long ago that dealers would have money down, paid for, or financed the new bikes before they got in, people were on "lists" to get the new models, TODAY however that is not the case, customers are not walking in the dealerships all amped and ready to purchase the lastest and geratest.

A PRICE POINT competitive Mx bike would be the ticket RIGHT NOW

I got my 09 CRF450 for $7,000 OTD last December, and I'm not going to spend that kind of coin again on a dirtbike.

I have heard that Suzuki is bringing back 2 strokes to the US???? I guess they figured out that atleast with both 2 and 4 strokes, they had a good portion of the market. From what I understand, they have lost a lot of that "portion" now and are looking at the dropping of an affordable solution bike as a possible reason. Guess we will see if it unfolds???

I say again. I will pay no more than $4000 for a bike. And I will not buy any MX bike with a four-stroke engine in it.
