He is amazingly consistent in his starts and his handling of the races.

He's copped some deserved flack for race craft but even that doesn't seem regular enough to be one of his defining features...as far as the CS goes, he is a legit contender there's no denying it.

To date, Deegan is beating both Justin Cooper and Levi so from a championship perspective Deegan is the best rider on the team so far.  I understand what you are saying, it's very possible Deegan could get smoked by either of them on any given day but if they don't beat Deegan consistently they won't finish in front of him in the championship standings.  Levi did spank him in the 2nd moto, but how much of that was Deegan going for the overall?  Like you said, there's a lot of racing left so we'll find who finishes on top at the end of the season.

Like I said in the race thread Hunter should damn well be beating Deegan. He made his debut in MX2 when Haiden was 11yrs old. Take away Hunter and this kid is giving everyone else the business. It's not his outright speed. It's the whole package. Starts, consistency, poise. You can count the dumb rookie mistakes he's made on one hand. Meanwhile a vet like RJ blows up every other moto. I expected this version of Deegs next year not this summer. Once Hunter moves up, these other guys are going to be in trouble.  Especially with the rate he improves

Hey man, Deegan has had a supercross track to practice on since he was like 10 tho. He should be beating Hunter (I guess).

Good to hear, I hope he'll be back next week.  The only reason Hunter walked off the track is because he thought for sure something was broken.  With that said, he could be sore and off the pace in the next few weeks.  Combine that with a majorly fired up rookie who just gained mountains of confidence and we could have something exciting to watch.  Deegan smells blood now and we know he's not afraid to run it in on anyone.

I get all that, but there is not one thing Deegan has shown us as far as laying up etc… he’s the most aggressive kid I’ve seen in a long long time… I like that about him. Did you catch the presser where he was kinda clowning on hunter? I thought they were cool with one another but idk. Either way gna be fun to watch

I watched the press conference and I didn't catch any comments or clowning on Hunter.  What are you referring to?  Do you have a time stamp?

If Hunter's wrist/arm/hand is 100% this wouldn't surprise me at all.  But if Deegan gets another great start ahead of Hunter, I could see some very defensive Bam-Bam style riding when the 96 pulls up to his rear fender.

Well, other than Hunter, he is in the best position to win the championship. I don't think he can beat Hunter straight up for a title, but if this crash hurt him more than Honda is letting on or if he loses some momentum from it, Deegan can capitalize.

I find the kid himself to be pleasant with a good family backing him, like so many other rising riders I've seen before.  What seems to be different about him is for some reason he has some fans that are over-hyping him and doing it in peoples faces with attitude.  Not really sure why that is exactly, but it reminds me of another rider who had the same thing happen: Mike Alessi.  

I think if the kid has the real stuff, it will be shown in combat and he will earn the glory, like all who have come before him.  If he doesn't he won't, but we'll get to see the battles either way.

He’s still got to get some consistency.  Red Bud was the first time he’s been on the podium in each moto.

In fact it’s the biggest problem for everyone in the 250 class except Hunter.  The only other rider to podium both motos was Justin Cooper  at Hangtown.

I haven’t been a huge fan of how deegan has rode on occasion, but his clean races make up for it imo. Very aggressive and gives it his all, I could see him riding well at mxon. Sort of reminds me of Cooper Webb and rv on a 250

Wouldn't be surprised if Hampshire is the fastest. He could win if he starts inside the top 30 and crashes less than 3 times each moto

He raced Southwick & red Bud as 250b rider last yr.  Smart to get some time at a track that you will race as a Profeshenal.

Agreed on the flack for race craft comment. I think the real test will come when/if he gets in front of Hunter and has Hunter pushing for the pass.  HD's questionable racing only occurred when he was in front of Hunter. But he isn't a dirty rider IMO yet. He made some sketchy moves once, and you don't earn a bad reputation for a one off move. I hope he finds a way to race Hunter clean aggressively. 

And as far as the championship, I somewhat anticipate Hunter to lose the red plate to Deegan in the short term then get back to racing shape and as long as he doesn't get injured again, he'll take the red plate back in 3 or 4 races.
