For the past few days, Chicago has had the worst air quality of any city in the world. I live 2 and a half hours south near Indianapolis and the smog here feels like Glen Helen on an August afternoon. My friends that live in Northern Indiana say the whole place smells like a camp fire that just got put out. No matter how fit an athlete is, if they are predisposed to asthma, conditions like this can certainly trigger it. Sure hope some of the smoke clears out before Saturday.

Depends on who is, and who isn't.
I’ve been wondering about the NASCAR street race in Chicago this weekend also. Being strapped in a 130 degree cock pit for 3 hours breathing carbon monoxide is bad enough, now add that crap on top of it. Sounds like a not-so-good time.
Not a good situation for either group. Spectating at either event won’t be any fun either.
It was odd yesterday when I checked my weather app and it just says “smoke”. Never saw that before. I think it’ll be fine, basically like riding in a morning fog before the sun clears it out.
I wasn’t pounding 30’min motos but rode yesterday and didn’t notice it. I just pretended we live in China. lol
I've been wondering about this myself. I'm in Michigan and have been constantly clearing my throat and coughing the past 3 or 4 days. It's raining now...maybe that will help.

Was pretty bad in central Illinois yesterday, some much needed rain helped a ton today.
Has anyone seen sandusky? Is he causing all of this smoke?
We're just now starting to get some wind near Chicago so things should get better through today. I'm hopeful we'll be clear by Saturday in SW Michigan unless new smoke moves in coincidentally.
Northern Indiana is still pretty bad. As you said, it smells like someone just put out a camp fire. Sort of freaks me out, we got a few box fans and put on some filters for around the house and have been staying in. Maybe extreme but living in a camp fire cannot be good either.
My throat's been a little sore lately, but I rode yesterday and didn't feel any ill effects. I surely hope this does not affect Red Bud weekend.
Hell, even here in east Tennessee, the sky is white and I can't see across the lake to the Cumberland plateau only a few miles away.
Can't imagine having to moto as bad as it must be up there.
Should be fine on Saturday...

isnt red bud always a little smokey from chainsaws, fireworks, and pot? lol
As a dude from California - “First time?”
If you think riding in heavy, or even not so heavy, smoke is the same as "morning fog" I don't know what else to say man.
If there is still an air quality issue on Saturday it could definitely have an impact on the race. I'm in California so we deal with this on a yearly basis, and it effects everyone differently. It can mess with your sinuses, which obviously has an impact on breathing, which then effects everything else. Not to mention if it's really bad it can wreak havoc on your eyes.
Maybe as far as visibility it might be similar to fog. But I feel like breathing smoke in will burn if you have a lot of smoke, and fog has never made me feel a burn breathing it in. I would think more people are concerned with the breathing it in , and not reduced visibility right? I've gotten lucky and avoided having any of the smoke come as far east as I am. My sister had it pretty bad a few weeks ago. The photos she took all looked like they were old photos or had a sepia filter on. The smoke could make for some interesting photos if nothing else. I hope it clears up though . I would hate having to deal with that smell 24/7.
Here is a picture from CA in 2021 during deer season, due to a fire that wasn't even in the same County. If you haven't experienced it, it's hard to explain just how much it effects everything you do when it's this bad.
I thought this was going to be another cannabis testing at WSX thread.
We have somehow survived daylong arenacrosses in both the 2 and 4 stroke days, so I think an outdoor event with a little smoke in the air will be fine for most healthy people.
Pit Row
Jason Thomas is at the track now and said you can see it but cant really smell/feel it. Storm is coming and they are expecting the smoke to be pretty much gone by Friday afternoon
Yes, guys I was meaning visibility only. I’m not used to smoke being in the air in the Midwest.
It’s a bit worse then that here in Indiana but pretty close. The storm just went through and knocked it all down thankfully. I think we’ll be ok Saturday in Michigan.
Smoke could affect the results at Washougal.
I was in a few western states including a few areas of ca. in 20,21 for the fires. It didn’t get me sick . since April your pic would be one of the better days. In the Midwest , northeast. Baltimore & DC was much worse Thursday. I think the smoke is different in different states. Sounds strange but there’s days where you get more sick than others. My eyes r really burning yet from Baltimore. The worst traffic in the country & working 21 hrs straight doesn’t help. Still smoky in Ma. & Me. With dense fog in me.
Probably because the fire has evergreen & pine trees etc burning. Out west it’s mostly dead brush that burns. Totally different smoke. Rip a limb off a evergreen tree & throw it on a camp fire . You,ll clear the area out real fast. Little trick to get people to leave.
They all will be fine...they are all smoking dope anyways.....
