2 strokes are harder to ride fast, they are plenty fast enough for most local guys that will never ride it to the limits. A fast rider will make it fast. The generation of bikes now don’t take much skill vs riding the two stroke where you need to be in the right gear, right part of the power band and know how to use that clutch. I think most older guys will side on the two stroke since that’s what we grew up on and these young kids like the 4 stroke because you can be lazy on it. Either way nothing like a two stroke on the pipe railing an outside loamy corner. If you like the fart box or the screaming bees,as long as it puts a smile on your face at the end of the day who cares!

I haven’t owned a 450 since 2009. I was probably faster on it than any 250 I’ve had, but I genuinely have more fun on the 250s. The high revs and shit traction make for a good adrenaline rush that I never got on the 4 strokes

Just curious why everyone has a hard on for 2 strokes

Do you even jump bro?

BUT, the smell, the feeling, the sound makes them more fun to ride for a skilled rider.

but novice riders tend to love their 450’s when they can jump every jump on track with 1/4 of throttle..

Yes, and I rode one of the 84's for years off-road.

Did very little to it. Keep the suspension fresh, put rings in it once in awhile because you feel like you should.

Such a great bike. No double clutching out of a gulch, mind numbing speed on straights, the brakes were my only issue.

Well, that and clutch baskets.

But I could put a year on it riding every other weekend, sprockets, but that's any bike. The engine? You don't do anything except change oil.

No way anyone is doing that on a 4T.

If the 4S is so easy to ride, it seems the Pro 450 would not be decimated with all the injuries that we see today.

It's too much power.

Can't wait to see what 80hp electrics will do to bodies.  (sarcasm)

Maybe you should try a four wheeler with some cup holders

I have never not owned a 125/144 in the last 20 years and I've got two right now, and the modern 150 I've got is the most dangerous bike I've ever ridden and I am on my 6th 450.

It's just like the non suzuki owners that say buy an rmz.  Most people saying to buy them don't own them.

Plus, the maintaince upkeep is crazy on a 125 or 150.  Most vets can go 200 or 300 hours on a stock 450 with just oil  changes and maybe once set of clutch plates.

It depends on the dyno...

There's a few reason for me. I ride a 125 and the handling is probably the biggest reason. It's so light and nimble it feels almost like a toy with an engine. It feels like what a motocross bike should be. The smell and sound is just a bonus. I've always thought 2 strokes were a fascinating engine design, using ports in the cylinder with the piston essentially being the "valve" that lets air in and out. They're simple and fun to tinker with. I also think 2 stroke bikes look way better than their 4 stroke counterparts. I don't race anymore or have the desire to so it's all about fun for me and the 125 checks all the boxes.

For those guys that ride all the time and rarely update their bikes, 250cc or 300cc 2-strokes are great.

By the time you blow your 4-stroke for the second time, likely you'll be questioning weather you want to keep banging your head against the wall while draining your wallet and missing out on ride time. Sure, you can get to be more proficient at the process, but there is no getting away from the time and expense and headache.

For hard enduro, the 2-strokes run cooler.

In really soft dirt/mud, they are hands down better at corner entry where you're going full Kamikaze into a turn. Change direction easily and skip over deep bumps or change ruts. They are great for getting creative and squaring up a turn.

Excluding the latest KTMs, they are simple to work on (carb, kick start) for trail side fixes.

Some people like the sound, others like the act of premixing gas, and others like the smell.

I haven't blown up a 4 stroke yet. None of my friend have either that I know of.

These 2 stroke vs. 4 stroke threads are as stupid as oil threads. And come up just as often. This ought to go to the dungeon but no thread to OP.

I think the beauty of a 2 stroke is drag racing.

Gravel pits back east and Glamis bros out here.

Other than sound, they kind of suck. I recently bought a 250 2 stroke and had a newer 450. 2 stroke was fun for about 2 weeks and for DITD. Aside from that, less power, harder to ride, more arm pump.

2 strokes have been glorified to be better than they really are.

Per the AMA goobers.....the two strokes are superior race machines.......see the AMA displacement rule.

This is a good point. Would factory teams still run 250 4 bangers if 250 2T could run the same class?

Yes they would still run 250 4 stokes, the factory teams are funded by the OEM's marketing budgets.

If the OEM's were trying to sell dihydrogen monoxide powered bikes, the factory teams would be racing them.

And a full gate of 125,s on the start everyone loves that.  My hot French x said it turned her on , tingly down stairs. The 125 just looks better everywhere on the track. You see every riders style on a 125. 4-st there is no style. Profeshenals doing crazy body english to clear huge gaps .  The 04 cr125 problably has an engine that forces momentum more than any 125.  Some might say the worst engine. I say the best it forces you to carry speed everywhere & has a Very fun Hit and mid to top engine.  I didn’t get hv  a single 4-st pass me on a slick hard pack hilly track last yr.  19 hr day in brutal traffic today atL was smash city& sc. is 1 ln.  I know I can make more on my 125 than some days out here.

Love racing my 2stroke against 450s. Nothing more satisfying than beating a field of 450s on a 250smoker.  Anyone that doesnt find a 250 2stroke fun doesnt know how to ride one properly or just lazy.
As far as a race bike goes the 4strokes are hands down better as they are so much easier to ride but thats what makes a 2stroke so fun!

For fun factor I have to say the smoker does it for me. I went the 450 route and it was much easier to ride fast but kinda boring on a track. Now if you want to see what a two stroke can do in the hands of a capable rider watch the young Carson Brown at the controls of one or turn Mike Brown loose on a track with a premix machine. Your thinking on how a 4t rules might be detoured just a little.

2 Strokes hurt MX/SX as a spectacle and 4 strokes made riding easier to get into in the consumer market.

Two strokes are better because they're closer to being powered by raw explosions compared to a four stroke. The best bike would be a 1 stroke by this logic, which as best I can figure would be a rocket. Stamp it.

Remove the rag from the airbox, and tighten your intake boot.

I'll bet your close to 60.

I weighed 150-160 and could start mine.
