Was probably slamming beers and po boys the night before in New Orleans too. I will never forget being hungover at brunch in NOLA and seeing K Dub there, drinking with his family.

What a legend. Also miss his opening ceremony SX transfers, those were wild.

Great photo!

Not just RC, K-Dub probably has the unluckiest timing of any racer in History. Coming in he had to deal with MC then the trio of RC, Bubba and Reed. Not a lot of championships left over after those guys are through. Easily a top ten rider of all time and he doesn't have a single big bike title. That's utterly bonkers.

I wanted him to get it in 2008 so bad.

I think this takes over as the coolest pic in motocross history.

The sad part is you think about how good K-Dub is and then you have Reedy pounding beers every Friday night and partying his ass off while winning. Then look at how good Chad was and then look at James and Ricky.

I watched KDUB beat Mike Brown at Muddy Creek in the late 90's . NOBODY could touch Brownie at muddy creek then. KDUB did it! It was amazing.

I used to think about the Bob Hannah quote “I don’t care about looking smooth, I just want to win” (something like that anyway..) in relation to KW. Always wondered if he could’ve turned it up a little bit by not riding so perfectly smooth all the time? Whatever the case, KW is absolutely one of my favorite riders, his style and the way he carried himself through the last few years of his pro career was awesome! He was the best veteran pro I’ve ever seen, the transfer jumps were incredible! And the fact that he still has so many fans after so long away says a lot!

That just reminds me of when he turned it up against Stewart in that heat race and tried to scrub... Didn't end well.

Was lucky enough to watch Kevin grow locally from PW50’s all the way through his last KX125 before going to Factory Yamaha.  Poetry in motion is how he always made it look/still makes it look I see.

Spun many of laps at Wildwood in Kentwood, La. myself. For a long time it was the closest thing we had to a National style track. Good times!

I don’t remember that, when/where was it?

Like yesterday! Hasn't missed a beat. Just one of the coolest riders ever. Now if we can get him in on the rotation with Stew in the booth...

Houston 2012 Heat Race.

Here's Stewart's GoPro:

The Bar to Bar from that year shows highlights from the heat then Windham's crash. Starting at 36:09:

Edit: Also wanted to point out I was in no way disrespecting KDub in my first post. Always loved his style, especially for a taller guy. It's tough for us to look good! Laughing

That’s my average tuesday night for me, however I couldn’t lay it flat off a double like kdub on a Wednesday morning.

Can’t imagine how hot it is there. Probably 95 at least, with Louisiana humidity above 50%

Bring back opening ceremonies transfers. With today's line up we're lucky to get a wheelie, a couple of revs and a hand wave.

Kevin has always been a great rider...but has always been a dude you'd like to hang out & drink a cold beer with. I believe his fan base still remains strong is because he was relatable, treated those around him well, and was never (that I know of) a douche.

It would be amazingly cool to see him come back and do a few opening ceremony transfers in next years SX season. Smile

Great stuff! I still have a poster of him in my old room. It shows him draging the handlebars while testing the CRF450 when he was coming back!

I’d forgotten about that crash, brutal!

I didn’t see anything disrespectful about your post, same as I don’t mean any disrespect with my question about Hannah. It’s just bench racing at its finest!

Thanks for digging up the vids

Dude. You should come to Diamond Don's in September. Supposed to be the last year. It's like Woodstock for motoheads. Build yourself up a trick XR200 or borrow one there - they're works-level sick builds - and join Trampas and Kevin and Wharton and Short on the gate. Brad Lackey helps organize the whole thing. I think everyone in moto has attended at least one of these. It's a great week of dirt.
