Yeah he had been back riding daily for years before he broke his neck on a vintage bike, hit a hay bale. Second brace was when he got hit by a car on his street bike. So to try to judge his coaching ability to his crashes is not a fair assessment. Instagram is not an accurate representation of his hours on the seat the last few years. I have personally witnessed a couple of years worth of riding before he broke his neck on the vintage. I’ll say again, the dude was riding more in a week than most people ride in a month.
Have you ever seen the stupid shit he does on a bike. His last crash at Anaheim 1 had nothing to do with mechanics.
Ok that’s one example out of many. You can do dumb stuff and have technique issues.
Just take this one picture for example. On his heels. Knees way in front, not gripping with his legs at all..

How did that turn out long term?
My two cents. Reynard was the most fragile rider in history. He's built some serious fast talent that can not complete a season. Ryno coached Law, Tomac and others. Has to be a better choice than staying with Reynard. No offense to Robbie, he is one of my all time favorites.
Lol shit take dude, this is likely during a sight lap during day practice
I can’t get enough ryno. Dudes grounded af
He seems unstable to me, like maybe has some sort of light mental illness, but forkner seems the same way and looks kinda scraggly in his most recent video. I know that sounds negative, but I don't mean it that way, just speaking observationally. Because I hope they get some good feng shui going and bring some stability to forkner's riding.
DUMBGEON TIME
I'm going to make a prediction that this new riding technique that's all the rage is going to evolve pretty fast with some modifications due to a sudden increase in achilles tendon tears. Right now, you have Tomac, Friese, and Rodbell all out for an extended period of time with Achilles tears. When have we ever seen this many achilles tear injuries in the sport all at the same time? I went back and looked over injury reports over the last 3 years and there used to be maybe 1 injury like this and most of the time, there are no injuries like this. Now, the technique is getting used more and more, and now we have 3 riders out with serious season ending achilles injuries? Seems like there's a correlation. My prediction is something is going to change with this technique pretty soon because there has to be a correlation between repeated stress on that tendon with the new riding technique.
Just curious who are the three that are out with Achilles I know Tomac?
Tomac doesn’t utilize the technique that is being discussed above. His technique is very unique to him alone
Honestly exactly what I was thinking.
I just really hope/want to see a full season at speed from Austin. Kid is special whether you like him or not. He wouldn’t still be with Mitch if he didn’t deserve to be there and I hope he gets to reward Mitch for his patience with Austin.
Forkner is really testing Mitch's "we can work with speed" theory.
Rodbell and Friese with Tomac
Most riders have a tendency to ride with their feet really far back on the pegs (with their heals hanging off the back) - Tomac rides damn near on his toes, and straight legged with knees locked. Given the repetitive forces these guy's bodies see in SX via daily practice and throughout the season, it is just begging for an achilles injury. I think slightly moving the foot forward to be on the balls of the feet (not on the toes) and with a very slight knee bend would eliminate much of the concern. But this ride on the toes, straight leg, knees locked has to stress the hell out of the achilles. Again, I can't recall a time when we had this many riders injured with achilles tears. I went back through the last 3 years of injury reports on RacerX and this wasn't an issue in the past. I see a slight tweak in technique coming at some point.
Pit Row
Looks like he uses the exact technique discussed. You can’t drive through braking bumps the way he does not using it.
You know Tomac removed the part of the boot that was designed to prevent Achilles injuries right?
I wonder how much Ryno charges. I would definitely link up with him if I was a top guy to get some game. Some of his stuff I’m sure I wouldn’t agree with but he seems like a fun dude and I’m sure working with him you wouldn’t get burnt out as fast as working with some of these other trainers.
Austin needs to move to 450 like AC did. It’s over in the 250 class for him. If he wants a career resurgence then he needs to move up a class. The 250 class is mostly young guys who ride fearless and WFO.
That’s not Austin anymore. You mature with injuries and with time.
Go to the 450 class and make the best of any career you might have left.
"Recall how competitive he was against Sexton at one point."
You must have a different definition of competitive than I do, their first year together AF was his daddy, right up until his knee went poof. Just want to be accurate here.
So what your saying is he shouldn't, shift gear . Ever ? . Just like he is doing in that picture. It's pretty hard to shift if u keep your toes on the pegs the whole time. Photo s of riders for a spilt sec is a stupid way to look at body position. Even Jett gets out of position a hell of alot every lap. It's about getting back to the right position straight away. No one can be perfect 100% of the time.
His boots are much more custom than just that and Eli himself doesn't remove anything from the boot. That's straight from Alpinestars per whatever Eli wants.
Yep, as have many of the other riders including Sexton.
Forkner and Hughes are both space cadet nut cases so maybe it will work out. Birds of a feather flock together.
My point was, they were the two fastest riders in their respective series racing each other - both were by far the fastest in their series. Both started the season together, one crashed out due to injury from riding beyond his abilities, the other won the championship then backed it up the following year with another. Then has moved on to the 450 class in which he just won a 450 championship along with being one of the two fastest riders in the series last year and this year. And I'm a Forkner fan being that I'm also from a small farming town in central Missouri.
No shit Sherlock.
People way underestimate the mental aspect of Ryno's game. There seems to be a mutual respect that is healthy.
It's a match made in Heaven I say but have been wrong before and will admit it.
