After watching the recent domination from Jett with his technique master class he’s putting on, it got me thinking is it time for the US riders to develop their skills on the deep stuff.
Jett has done a ton of training at places like Lommel, with lots of input from world class sand riders. This period in his development no doubt taught him balance & lower leg control which sets him apart from 99.9% of others.
I hear a lot about the scale of US racing, and it’s of cause a huge county, but is the lack of diversity hindering the development of the very best ?
Why not swap Pala for a proper sand track ?
You could swap one of a million tracks for pala and it would be an improvement.... I think the wick is the best they'll get for a national level track though.
Most riders from weekend to pro's know of an epic sand location near them, but its always a practice track, or there's a lack of facilities making it national ready.
There has to be a good sand track located in the Southeast US that they could hold an outdoor national at; can anyone from that region speak on this??
Dyracuse in Neekosa, WI is that…
Grantsburg is probably a better example.

How much time did Jett spend with Everts when he was on that Suzuki in Europe?
That’s all the Euros ever race on, it seems.
Not a positive thing.
Putting 1 sand track on the calender ain't going to change shit.
Riders would be better off doing a boot camp in lommel for 4 weeks. Problem is usa riders spend the off season doing sx.
When they moved to Europe. Jett would normally train with Hunter and the team but when Hunter would go racing internationally with Darren.
The mum would stay at home looking after Tate.
Jett would get sent to stay with trainers for 4days to a month.
Normally he would either stay at Kennys house and train with Kennys dad.
Or he would stay with Liam everts and Harry would take them riding every day. He spent 2 years training with everts. 2017-2018
You want to know when jett has technique. It's not from the sand it's from the trainers.
When jett moved to the us. Same thing. Train with Hunter and the team. When Hunter was away for racing. Jett would have 1on1 time with Johnny O.
Could be that Jett is just special
I don't think one sand track is going to radically change the skill mix of US based riders.
I do think it would be good though to have more diversity in track styles. No doubt there's a lot of US tracks that have supercross style jumps and obstacles, which is OK in moderation but in excess leads to a loss of skills on other styles of track. It's pretty obvious over the last decade at the MXdN that the GP riders tend overall to be more capable on a variety of track surfaces and on more traditional style motocross tracks.
Who knows - you might even attract more Euro riders with a different mix of track styles.
How much time would it take someone from the US to master the European sand really though
Grantsburg MX.
I don’t think he’s talking about a race, just a place to train that’s similar to Lommel.
The Euros will just come up with another way to find an advantage.
OK. His last line was swap pala for a sand track. So I thought he was talking about a national swap.
But training at a deep sand track is a choice. And location plays a big part. You have to goto the sand. It seems like there is a few deep sand tracks in the USA but none of the riders want to train there or the tracks are not open and maintained often.
Lommel is open most days from 1pm - 6pm or dark. And it cost €200 for a yearly membership. So it makes it a cheap good choice for euro riders. Train in the morning. Motos in the afternoon.
US riders spend the off-season racing motocross like they are now. They spend the pre-season of October through December training for Supercross.
I think initially a decent training facility but with a view to hold a national round.
I expect at national would have to be held there to motivate the riders.
Thing is until now other then the occasional MXON in deep conditions, there’s been little reason for US riders to consider riding in proper sand. But now you have a guy setting a new standard, he’s raising the bar & from What I’m seeing it’s the days spend with Everts in the bottomless conditions that have paved the way for this.
Everts may not have always been the fastest, but he was incredibly good at timing the roughest deepest conditions, looking like he stayed within his limits. Remind you of anyone ?
Serious question;
Could there ever be a Glamis National?
Pit Row
Credit to Stephan Everts.
I have never been a big fan of Everts (who in the 90s was as cocky as Herlings or who ever you want on a good day), but when I see the Hunter's, I see Everts 2.0. Hunter was with Suz at the time, just before they folded (unfortunately). So, although it is a pure guess, I 100% believe Stephan coached the Lawrence's enough to help them be the riders they are today. "Natural" + hard work/emulation/back to the wall + the right environment/coaches (including dad and Johnny O' of course, etc). And yes riding sand often helps ; stand up
Jett is just pure perfection on the bike. That comes from great training with great people AND he is special.
What many US amateurs need is more proper training and learning how to shift instead of wfo motos on the rev limiter.
Harry Everts is known for his training drills and they clearly works.
US doesn't care, it's all about Supercross and man-made circus tracks. Lawrence Boys came over at the right time to dominate the US. Could be a real lean 5-10 years for US born riders.
That would be a hell of a party! I haven’t been there in 20 years, I’d make the trip for a national
We don't care because the worlds best continue to flock here to race in our superior series'....
What's truly lean is the talent pool in MXGP.....maybe ya'll Euros should be more concerned with keeping your riders there instead of all the good ones coming here to race?
Yet "foreigners" are kicking the US riders asses right now. They didn't grow up here with life revolving around Lorettas and CircusCross.
Apparently it's too hot for that to happen.
The best US born and bred rookie in a while has revolved his whole entire life around circuscross!
North FL Motocross' pro track is gnarly. Alessi trained there quite a bit back in the day. Very deep, soft sand that is difficult to ride on slow.
We aren't doing too bad, a 17 year old AMA rookie just passed and gapped the two time and defending MX2 champion. He honed his skills on ramp jumps not sand tracks.
Jett Lawrence is a generational talent and he would be winning championships on either side of the pond no matter where he spent his youth. Were his 65 and 85 world championships due to the superior amateur tracks and competition in Australia? lol
Never said it was bad, but concerning to say the least if you are an American. Wins are what counts. Records won't remember a good moto. Jett is clearly in a class by himself, he is making established 450 riders look like Amateurs. Must be terrible racing for 2nd place at this point, all the others are mentally beaten and show no real fight. 250 class isn't going to fare much better in a couple weeks when the points become out of reach for the rest. Quite a year already for the Brothers Lawrence.
WW Ranch.
