I miss Muddy Creek. Went to that one every year.
wait.....
There is no national in the southeast?
So we would have to go to Texas to see one?
Huh?
No Texas either?
Why hasn't this ever been discussed here before?
Let me do a quick search here for "southeast national motocross".
oh, never mind.
Perhaps the question to ask would be why the tracks that had them, do not keep running them.....
Joe, are you saying it was Sam’s decision not to keep the National at Muddy Creek?
Simplest, most obvious answer to me would be that it’s hot asf down south during the summer - not that it’s not also hot in Cali but it’s a different level. Remember the heat stroke cases from freestone?

Promoters need to sell tickets to make money hosting a national. There simply aren’t enough people willing to sweat their asses off in the South East sun in the summer for the promoter to make a profit. Same story for Texas.
It was about 90 yesterday at Hangtown. It was about the same in Texas, my guess same in the southeast.
Nope. We just need more dry hard packed goat trail California rounds
I've never experienced this "different kind of heat" in CA vs OK. That's just bafoonery.
You don't know what humidity is? There is a huge difference in the type of heat.
muddy creek kind of sucked as a pro track. it's a great amateur track but we stopped going because the racing was just always kind of a snoozefest.
Not sure about gatorback, but pretty sure Davey mentioned WW opted out, spent alot and dont think he got enough crowd to make it worth while, he also went from a public track to a private track with occasional races, and few different other events on his property. It was nice while it lasted for the few years. No doubt aug and sep suck for riding, but no one seems to complain about the humidity at LL?, and yeah i know they dont run 30 +2
It probably peaked at 90 starting a lot cooler. The humidity was probably 50.
Today:
Highs
Rancho Cordova, CA 94°F 37% humidity
Tyler, TX 85°F 52% humidity
As a former Californian, I wish they would give Pala a rest, its not fun to watch and the track facility itself is junk. Hangtown is historic but also a super boring track to watch, and is not fun to attend unless you feel like walking around all day and avoiding horseshit. Would love to see some new tracks in different states on the circuit.
Bring back Miller Motorsport Park!!! Give Utah their National back!!!!🤣
Well maybe they could incorporate the triple crown into motocross. 3 - 20 minute races instead of 2 - 30's
Gainsville National was always run in the middle of SX season after Daytona when it was cooler. WW ran in the hot season so it was brutal.
Ask Chase Sexton why we don't run at WW. He won a Moto and it wiped him out so bad that he didn't race the second Moto and the following week.
I have lived in California for almost a decade and I go back to Florida to see my family for a couple of months every summer. Trust me when I say riding at Hangtown in June is not near the same on your body as riding at a Florida track in June.
The issue with the other states in the south east is that there just isn't any national caliber tracks. Loretta's and Muddy Creek are ammy tracks at best.
Monster Mountain is the closest track to national caliber but the parking situation and infrastructure needs a ton of upgrades to meet the criteria. It's also 3 hours from any major city.
Texas could be possible but it would have to be an opening or closing round because of heat (it gets over 100 there in summer for weeks on end) and the other issue there is most of the tracks that MX sports would use there are also many hours from a major airport.
if MX sports thought it could make money coming to the southeast, they'd do it.
Pit Row
Time for another six flags national?
Maybe next year we will get lucky
I know it’s been super hot but I feel it’s about money now that I have heard some other people comment
Texas has a few tracks that could be used. The most ideal is Swan MX in Tyler, TX which is right off one of the busiest interstate's in the country (I-20) and only 127 miles from DFW. This is no different from Budds Creek, Unadilla, Red Bud which are all over an hour from any major metro areas. Swan is also fully lit with lights which could be a cool change up from the norms on the schedule and a relief from the heat. There's also Oak Hill, 3 Palms, Underground.
Also it'd be much better in May in Texas than August or September. The heat doesn't really relent until October. And only starts getting hot mid to late June.
Swan is a great track, but again I think the issue is timing. They'd have to kick the series off there as it's way too hot and humid in east Texas June-August.
They have tried the night racing outdoors and the riders all complained about the lighting.
I love Swan and have ridden there many times. But this is the response that Davey has said over and over here on Vital over the years about why Texas doesn't get a national.
It's their reasons, not mine...
I say have a race at Rio Bravo, end of August Houston, Texas. Ya might say nostalgia !!!
Ya might say not too!!!
Southeast is just too facking hot during the season for nationals. I wish it was different, but it ain’t.
There are still races all around here during the hot months, but 30+2 at the pace those national guys go is waaaaaay different on the body. And those guys have world class cardio and heat tolerance already.
Slight tangent. People from other sports have no clue how amazingly tough motocross is.
For all the people saying the heat is too much don’t forget there’s a number riders who train during the weeks doing 30 min +2 motos.
I know race day is different but if the heat and humidity was that unbearable you wouldn’t have riders living/training down here.
Dehydration is not something you can easily bounce back from. Ask Mookie.
American Pro motocross rider Josh Lichtle succumbed on Monday 04 July 2011 to complications relating to heat stroke that he sustained two days before At Red Bud.
there is a reason.
Cause it’s too hot, never mind the 104 degree temps at the last 2 season ending Palas…but yeah let’s give that spectacular track TWO races 😂😂😂
Pala is a national caliber track?? Lol…
So red bud should be taken off the schedule?
Post a reply to: No Southeast Races😒
