hi everyone,

I’m Marc, 30 years old in 3 days lol, I live in France. Passionate about Honda, probably because of one of my uncles who owns a honda store lol.

I started with a 2007 CR 125 with only 10H. a big regret to have sold it... I then ride another motorcycle, RM 125, YZ 125, CRF 250... then I bought again a CR 125 2002 then CR 125 2007 that I also sold because I could no longer ride a motorcycle.

I open this topic for share the passion for  Honda 2 strokes 2000's that I prefer,

Have Nice days everyone.

PS: sorry for my bad english Smile

Big 2-stroke fan here... lots of beauties in this thread.

BTW - never apologize about "bad english" my friend.   At least you know a 2nd language, unlike many of us Americans.

thank you Magoofan

My first brand new bike was a 2000 CR250.

Nice find. I saw Lammy & McGrath in 91 racing at Millville. The peak bikes sounded so Killer.  Lamson,s 96 was the highest reving 125 I ever heard.  If all goes as planned . I,ll be testing pipes . Pc , hgs, Messico & fmf which I hv. And pick the quickest responding.  I had FC revalve for whoops & I can ride whoops pretty good. I wanted a quick responding engine with a strong & long mid. Engine should be good for AX.  I pretty much have the tag as the fastest 04 cr125 rider in the world. Haha I kinda stole that from 94 mxon Emig. His plan was I,m the fastest 125 rider in the world   , so get ready. B847B8B7-91C3-495F-A920-518763797229

amazing to assist at the MX championship 95-2000 with the legends.

messico pipe it's nice for the high rpm, hgs and fmf fatty is better for low and middle rpm.

with this tag you win, it's sure ahah

Here is mine. I sold my other bikes in Japan, but shipped this one back from Japan when I moved back to the States as I couldn't part with her.  She has gained a few HRC parts in recent years.  I remember when Honda brought several pre-production 2002 CR250's to the Honda track in Saitama for their support riders to tryout. They also had a new 2001 CR250 there to compare back to back.  My first impression was that I liked the frame a little better than my 2001 and the front brake was a little better along with better valving in the front fork, but I absolutely thought the engine was a huge step backwards.. like riding a very health 125 with no hit anywhere in the powerband, but with better high rpm torque than a 125.  There was no torque at low rpm for doing small doubles out of a corner and the motor felt like a sewing machine it was so hitless.  I had no desire to give up my 2001 after that test ride. The issues with the 2001 were the very harsh mid-stroke valving in the fork, the carb jetting and a little tingle in the handlebars, only felt when hit things like supercross woops, square edges. The frame made the bike feel super stable and planted.  I fixed the forks with a Showa works kit, put brass inserts into the bars, and got the magic jetting specs for the finicky Mikuni from the Honda factory team and all was 100% resolved.  Best bike of all time for me.

thank you for these anedoctes on honda, many had the same judgment as you on the engine of the new honda.
Are your suspensions semi-factory?

you have a beautiful CR 250 with a factory look, you did well to keep it ahah.

Not at the moment, as they sit in the warehouse where I keep them and not sure when I'll be over there, but can try to dust them off and take pics next time. As I said, they're not like one of Tokyo Tiddler's HRC replicas, they're virtually stock.

The cylinder/head mods on the 250 lowered the port timing and gave it a big improvement in low-end response/torque.

I had a 2001, 2002, 2003 and a 2006. I liked the motor and suspension on the 2006. WAY better than the 2001, 2002 and 2003. I loved the 3rd Gen Aluminum frame.

It has Tara Gieger 04 championship spec engine with a tiny bit more torque now. Also have a 04 practice bike. And a 05 I like the 04 engine & chassis the most. Back & neck injury screwed up this yr.  I Love these bikes they keep me going. Back to Chicago working 7 days a week mon for a Eastern European trucking co. Depending on how much money I can save. I need 8k to hire a Chicago attorney to get 87k owed from 2 co.s.  It’s either Fl. Cal. Or ax this winter.  I had TJ make 2 TUF. Blue seat covers . So maybe I should just get a National AX 125 championship. Haha

I think the same for the CR 125 with a retro look.
how it is possible to ride with a CR 125 that has only 5h, heading to the salon.

you’ve already opened the engine to see the work done?

I hope your wounds are better!
pay attention to the work, hoping that you will be able to return all the necessary money.

0C9F59C3-5713-45B1-9195-036E0B5D017B.Jm racing did a amazing job on my engine.  In 06 I bought a new 04. JM decked, ported, diff carb taper. It was a huge difference. Then I wanted a stroke crank 125 to blow 450,s bars off at Millville. The 04 & 2 06,s where stolen.  Glen Helen 2 st world championship proved that the cr250 stock bore can win against the 300,s.  IMO the 02-07 cr250 & the 04-07 cr125 engines r still being developed . My 5 hr 04 was 100% oem. I bought it from a 50 + yr old .  Sorry I,m pretty tired . Kinda of stressful day dealing with a lot of bs. African drivers yelling & starting fights with the office people . The police showed up. And the wages dropped again .

Here are the last 2 strokes I did a build up on. A 01 cr250 which I owned one of these back in 01,and my recent 06 cr125 with less then 10 hours on it which I freshened up.

I’ve been riding Hondas my entire life except in 03 when I bought a yz250f and I just sold my rm250 I couldn’t gel with.

For some reason I’m a bigger fan of the 2000-01 Gen vs the 02-07 Gen. Love that whole era though!

No one ever mentions the 2000. It was the year of the new design change. Magazines, webzines, YouTube, you name it, always cite the 2001 model. Why? I had the 2000 and loved it, until I got hurt that is. I’m not sure how much changed from 2000 to 2001 but whatever it was, the 01 stands out as the winner in the public and media’s retro memory, while the 2000 just seems long forgotten. Just wish I had a reason.

The 2000 was a good bike, but they changed a lot on the 2001 engine that made it the one that people seem to love most considering that engine had been around for many years. In 2001, they changed the cylinder/ porting, the exhaust pipe, and the carb from a Keihin to a Mikuni. Other than that, the rest of the bike is the same except for seat and shroud graphics. The 2001 engine changes all came from learnings from the HRC factory teams.  The Mikuni carb was a pain to jet but did make slightly more power than the Keihin. It is a shame that engine only saw one model year. I would like to have seen that engine in the 2002 frame.

I don’t recall them changing the engine “a lot” but I do remember everyone looking for the 01 CDI for their 00 model or the ones with the 01 looking to buy the carburetor off of the 00.

Surprised that there was no story or pics of Willie Surratt,s cr250 from glen helen.  The world 2-st race will easily be the best national race of 2023.  Willie is Super talented & the cr250 had a Awesome bark to it.

That bike was ripping and pulled 300s up the hills from the inside line. I’d be curious to know who did the engine work. Mine hauls ass, but it’s still lacking a little down low and there is nothing smooth about the mid-top. Going to try a pwk in the next week or so

edit. I’m going to shoot you a DM regarding tuning the mikuni

I've had 98' and 02' CR250R,  my 98 was the better of the two overall, vibrations aside. Faster, and more stable, not that the 02 wasn't.

I'd love a minty 98-99.

you have one parts of the mx history in your garage.

i thinks Honda was too much ahead on the concurrence mx bike in in those years

Starting in 02 the CR250R had a case reed engine; these engines sucked on 91 octane pump gas and were very susceptible to atmospheric changes. I had my 03 jetted perfect one day at Lake Elsinore and it ripped. the next week at the same track the temp and humidity were different and it ran like a dog. I started running 1/2 91 octane pump gas and 1/2 VP c12 and it solved the problem. Once I got it jetted right on this gas it ran pretty consistently and the air temp didn't matter

i had an 01 and it had that garbage mikuni carb on it..i bougght a new pwk air stryker from a 2000 cr250 new from honda and that bike RIPPED! i actually jetted it rich to de-tune it because it hit so hard w/ the fmf pipe i had on it.

i think using a lectron today would have similar if not better results
