I get a lot of shit, but I've never actually understood the rugged individualist anti-government argument for fossil fuel in particular over electric. Not that I dont see the value in the fuels: Long carbon chains are cool.

I just mean, there is a zillion ways I could create electricity without government infrastructure, common ways being solar, wind, hydro. Shit, if I wanted, I could even just burn some fuckin' garbage to make it. But there's almost no way without broad in-place infrastructure under which I could produce a meaningful amount of combustable petroleum. I mean, that's what Mad Max is about.

Bio fuels though?

Diesel, ethanol, methanol and so on can be home brewed.

It's all captured sunshine.

Yeah, but growing and distilling a meaningful amount of biofuel vs just burning anything you see including biofuel or just capturing the sunlight or whatever fucking form of radiant, thermal, or kinectic energy is nearby directly into your roving gang smashing vehicle?

Electricity is the clear Mad Max anti government winner here.

Seriously, take a look at how much biomass is required to produce pretty moderate levels of fuel. It is a ton (literally many tons). Way more than a dude would be producing on their own. Not if they still want time to run their armored sport sedan over the pillaging gangs.

I honestly never looked at the battery power oh come on now ,when I go riding I check the fuel before I go back out and have to undo the cap and shake. all you had to do was look at you phone screen with all that telemetry and values and look at battery life

I'm starting to think Bryon is an investor in Stark.

Imagine if someone came out with a new power source of a highly flammable liquid that you would carry in a tank sloshing around and hope it doesn’t blow up in an accident.

yeah, that would go over well.

But ePower is so bad. It’s coming, you won’t stop it.

I agree, let's take our shitty gas bikes and start a fire/riot and do what the government wants.

The other manufacturers have all responded. They have chosen not to build to fail.

It is not possible to make a 450 pro-level competitive E MX bike with existing battery technology. The batteries are primitive (per pound, dried cow dung stores far more energy) and the 6kWh units are woefully inadequate- too small- for machines that have to do 30 minutes, plus 2 laps, a sight lap as well as a red flag restart and the travel time from the truck.

Make the batteries bigger, say 12kWh, and you have a 320 lb bike that is hugely bulky, and will cost a great deal more.

Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki and KTM want to preserve their reputations and are watching the Stark slow motion train wreck with bemusement.

And what percent of dirtbike buyers are pro level, a very small amount.

So small in fact that Suzuki no longer puts development into their 250/450 race bikes or has a factory team.

I don’t think Stark is going for that level either.

What about KTM 450s not make it through a tough GP without adding the EXC tanks?

They put out a video of them "remodeling" the STARK office and factory floor. Where are videos of those updates? KTM just did a headquarter tour with media, why doesnt STARK.  Let's see the wheel room, Brembo brake room, or heck even the bathroom. Putting out videos of how to install plastic just seems odd. Maybe we are all going to eat crow, but surely theyre reading vital or their Instagram comments and seeing lots of skeptics. Just something not adding up. My opinion is they planned to get acquired, that didnt happen so now they dont know how to be a manufacturer or distributor, and dont have enough material or parts for the masses. And theyre trying to buy time til an acquisition occurs.

Lmao you're such a try hard. The joke is on you because at least KTM and others have the ability to add range on demand. I guess GNCC is a failure too since they have to refuel. What a joke, bike cant go 4 hours on a single tank? Trash heap time. PM me a price to delete your account. We can do a group buy to never see your posts again.

You need to relax, you just created an account and already you are making yourself out to look like a crazy weirdo. It's just a dirt bike discussion. Stop getting so worked up.

If anything, maybe you need to delete your account...

Another thought on Stark and Chad and the whole business plan. How do you completely scrap your initial factory setup and invest in a larger better more modern factory setup based on 15,000 $100 deposits.  I spent $100 at Chili’s with my family last night. Not exactly a major investment. This is not some major investment that you revamp a factory over. If it were $1,000 deposits?  Different story.  Which then begs the question, why didn’t he do $1,000 deposits??  Was he afraid he would’ve gotten only 5,000 buyers?  This did not sit right with me when it was announced and still makes no sense.  If nothing else, that had to have added a huge amount to the delay factor.  Did he consider the notion of 10,000 “customers” backing out once the other $13,000 was due?  I find it hard to believe that a successful business man would make such a decision with those parameters.  Yet he did.

Lol umm yeah.  Did.you ever hear about a few big banks just going out of business because of the money they lended and who to?  I have no doubt Chad gets rich off this whether or not the company succeeds. That may actually be his whole game plan.

I'm not one to tell a man how to spend his money, but maybe pay down those upside down bike loans instead of trying to cancel someone because of words.

I invested $13,000 just like every other customer. Well, technically $100.

All they need to do is take a picture of their warehouse with bikes in it, and they won’t do it. Either they love reading the speculation here and elsewhere, or they have nothing to show. It’s as simple as that.

I mean, it's pretty transparent that he's using this ambiguity to drive views to his Youtube video(s).  Whether this is a good or bad thing is dependent upon which side of the fence you sit on.

On the other hand, what motivation does he have to say anything less than stellar about the bike?  Stark provided him what amounts to exclusive access from which he can create content.  This (presumably) included covering what was he turned into a European vacation.  They promised him the bike by May, before almost everyone else.  There have been some suspicions that he had access to the pre-order before it officially went live, ensuring that he would be one of the first to receive a bike, which will obviously be used to create further content.

The problem is with how these type of arrangements are presented to us.  The story, as far as I can tell, is being framed as "early Stark customer gets sneak preview of his new bike."  In reality, this is skirting the lines of "paid advertising."  Again, there's nothing necessarily wrong with any of this, it's a very common practice (especially in the automotive world).

I am rooting for the entire EV movement to fail. Not for any reason other than the ultimate success of EV will result in the inability to use any vehicle that runs on gasoline.  And the ultimate success will require government interference.  I foresee not only the elimination of manufacturers being ALLOWED to sell new gas powered vehicles, but the banning of the use of the vehicles already owned.  Each purchase of an EV is a vote to do away with gas vehicles.  It’s also a vote against the sport you love.  I am one of an enormous segment of MX/off-road people who will never own an EV bike.  I also am not going to watch EV SX or EV MX.  The sport as a whole will take a tremendous hit financially once the EV has been fully forced upon us by the governments of the world.  As of now, that’s s target year of 2035.  Each EV bike purchase is an affirmation to these government bodies goals.  When I first saw that KTM was coming out with tge Freeride I thought it would be cool to have a silent bike.  Now with GM and Harley and Kawasaki ANNOUNCING they will not have a gas powered vehicle in their lineup by that year??  I’m fully in protest of this movement.  If you love MX and think that supporting the EV movement won’t drastically change the sport you love, you should think a little harder.  When there’s nothing but EV MX bikes available you will see an enormous drop in sales of MX bikes as people like me look for a different hobby.  You also might see SX with half empty (or more) stadiums, which could be the demise of SX if that can be imagined.  If the cost of putting on a SX race can’t be covered, they will cease to be put on.  The government wants you to embrace EV.  You want to hold hands with the government as a dirt bike fan?  Good luck with that.  They’d LOVE to outright ban dirt bikes period.  That they can’t do but if they can get all the dirt bikers to follow them into the EV black hole, that’s the next best thing.

I absolutely agree to resist EV's (cars) people don't understand what the implications are here with cars being EV and the number one thing in jeopardy...

I absolutely agree to resist EV's (cars) people don't understand what the implications are here with cars being EV and the number one thing in jeopardy is freedom of movement.

However I do believe there is room for E-Moto's but it does cross-over to what you are against and I respect that.

Look up what the EPA is announcing tomorrow……all new strict legislation on emissions.  This will be the effective equivalent of the first step towards banning gas powered vehicles.  This is something I didn’t even think was coming so soon.

Man, you can think what you want, but its really way more simple than that.

First off, like many of you here, i'm a dirtbike enthusiast and have been riding since i was 3 years old. I love this sport. I then became an electric dirtbike enthusiast when i first rode an Alta MX in 2017 and then bought my MXR in 2018 (5 years ago), and have been enjoying having fun on the bike at local socal tracks ever since.

Steve Matthes hinted at this bike reveal the day before the release on Twitter on December 13, 2021. I even posted about it on the Alta forums. The original post was titled "Something new is coming". This is what tipped me off that something was about to be announced.

https://electricdirtriders.com/threads/stark-varg-something-new-is-comi…

I stumbled across Stark's youtube channel the day before the announcement. They accidentally posted their content publicly instead of making it private. I actually cant remember exactly how i stumbled on it, but i was just searching, googling hardcore, etc. Once i found the youtube i then found their website, saw that preorders were available, and i just thought to myself "100$ deposit? ok sure, what the heck?" and submitted an order. I didn't even know if it would work but it did. And that's it. The next day it went public and Stark contacted me thanking me for their first ever order.

Sorry, it wasn't the elaborate scheme you are fantasizing about.

Stark invited me out as their first customer. Yes, they shot some media with me which they have already posted, and that shouldn't be surprising. I'm under no obligation whatsoever to post content of my own. I could have just gone there to meet the team and ride the bike and said nothing and it would have been fine. I'm just choosing to share all my experience with everyone because i genuinely enjoy dirtbikes and i know everyone wants more information. This means sticking my neck out and being in the spolight, which is fine, but i'm not doing this for fame or fortune by any means. I just like dirtbikes and think electric dirtbikes are rad and its fun making content showing the fun i have. Thats it.

I spent a lot of time editing the recap video (in addition to my 50-60+hr workweek) where i cover many of the questions people are asking, and as i said before i'd rather people just watch that once its posted instead of me answering individual questions over and over and over again. I'm not hiding anything.

I wasn't comparing them to KTM, that was just an example. I, along with others am just curious why no pictures of the factory, assembly line, or warehouse? They talk about it being state of the art, so why not share, they shared the renditions and the sign hanging up, why not follow up on that?  I want startups to succeed, I know it's hard work, and takes a lot of time, sacrifice and dedication. I hope they're being honest about everything and are successful, if that's the case good on the founders for taking a huge leap. BUT their current methods as time goes on seem out of the playbook of Theranos/Nikola. For example, you can find Surron factory pics online, and I'd assume STARKs would look similar.

It's unfortunate that your takeaway from my post is that I am suggesting that this is some sort of "scheme."  In fact, I've repeatedly stated that the way Stark is managing access to pre-production bikes is a fairly common practice.

If everything played out the way you state with regards to the preorder, more power to you.  You've obviously positioned yourself as an influencer of sorts in the EMX world and there's nothing wrong with that.  Why not own it?

I noticed on the youtube video that Bryan is asked like 3-4 times by different people how much battery was left and he wouldnt ever say. It was always "enough for more"

This whole thing feels like a scam. Dude, what percentage of the battery did it use? It's that simple. Answer the question. Instead, we see the words hardest packed track that's pretty low engine load and all of Stark's designated ball handlers running 24/7 damage control. I hope the bike is sick, but I can't wait for all the stark salt threads when the bike is telling you when to stop riding or start pushing. Even if the numbers aren't super flattering, just post some information and people like me will lay off.

I didnt actually look at the state of charge after this session. I did this session followed by several rips in 80hp mode and the bike didnt skip a beat. Cant answer because id be guessing in this particular case.... its as simple as that dude. In fact, in all of my riding out there i never once ran out of battery or had the bike limit power on me in any way. Take that for what its worth.

In my recap video i did a battery range test. Its currently rendering and will be posted on youtube in a day or two.

Id rather people just watch the video as it took me a massive amount of effort to put together and id rather not answer the same individual question many times over when its covered in the video.

Bryan, thanks for posting your experience on here.  Just curious - what was your longest session on the bike?  I (and I assume a lot of others on here) am really just trying get real world feedback on what the battery life is like in actual riding conditions.  It's as simple as that...will the juice (battery life) be worth the squeeze ($13k) to follow through on my purchase, for my riding type, etc.  I love a lot of things about the bike so far, but the battery life remains the elephant in the room that I haven't seen anyone really address or put to bed....

Tin foil hats are for the ridiculous minded crazies who have equally ridiculous conspiracy theories.  I’m not sure how deep the hole in the sand is that you’ve got your head in but I guess you’re in deep enough. You don’t pay much attention to world events I guess and do even less thinking about them.  Ignorance is indeed bliss.

It’s just so odd to root for a new type of motorcycle to fail. I want development and new technology in the sport.

EVERYONE - READ THIS DUDE'S POST ^ !!!

Yo, SemiFreeGuy, I mean, not to gloat or anything, but was I fricken' right or was I fricken' right?!!! But never mind my superior cerebral prescience, if you read this dude's post, there's no mistaking his mindset: the only way to keep the sport "pure" is to kill it off entirely, and he's happy to assist in doing exactly that. He freely admits that, eventually, if/when EV bikes become the norm, he won't ride, he won't buy a bike, he won't even watch a pro race from his sofa. He'd rather quit than stick his toes into the icky goo of evolution, and he's rooting for you to do the same. It's as clear as the driven snow. He's kinda like O.J. Simpson: he loves the sport almost too much, and so he has no choice but to stab it to death once it tries to assert it's independence from him.

His post expresses not one single iota of optimism about the future, not a single imagining of how things might actually get better and there might actually be MORE people riding/racing and MORE places to ride/race - he just draws a crystal-clear mental image of a dystopian future where no one is allowed to ride, and even if they could - they shouldn't.

So then, are ya with him? Do ya want moto dead and gone? Or not?

I do hope everyone reads it and stops and thinks.  Almost every Stark buyer does not intend on giving up gas powered bikes.  They are adding it to their collection.  None of those customers want to see Kawasaki have ZERO gas bikes in their entire lineup in 12 years.  Now realize Kawasaki has announced that this is a reality. That’s street and dirt.  First I still think EV bikes are going to suck ass in the sand and mud. Second, I think everyone will be pissed at the subscription price it will cost to have all that adjustability that is touted.  And the first time you have to replace the smashed iPhone device attached to your bars you’ll be wishing it was a top end you were paying for instead.  I hope people forward my post to friends and say look at this crazy bastard.  Because half of them will think.  That’s what we need is people to think and just stop accepting.  Hilarious that you think I’m some idiotic relic who just wants to avoid change though.  I actually care a lot about this sport.  If it takes a giant shit because of the direction it goes that’s not my fault and I don’t have to accept that it’s the same.  Because it won’t be.  It won’t be close to the same sport.  When that happens you can laugh about the crazy bastard who posted about it on Vital 10 years before.  I’ll be somewhere thinking how it was avoidable if not for people like you.
