Not what I said at all. I was as guilty of tearing things up on my motorcycle as a kid as the next person, difference is I didn't do it in front of people who hate anything with a motor on trails that are marked as non-motorized by law. I also wasn't blasting around/on those same hiking/walking trails scaring and pissing off people just trying to be outside with their friends and animals.

There are areas one can still ride around here without pissing off the people who wield influence on local government that will crack down hard on such activities which means ANYTHING with a motor will then be outlawed, including e-mtb's which for now are accepted.

We’re you back in the trails of Old Agoura / Cheseboro?    if that’s the case I 100% agree. Lots and lots of horse Karen’s there...

if that’s the case I 100% agree. Lots and lots of horse Karen’s there that really love to take ownership of the area. It’s finally mellowed out now, but a few years ago I would get harassed or sour looks constantly while on my eMTB

I have had multiple run ins with Horse people on Cheseboro, mostly older ladys.  The one kid i see a lot is cool, i think he gives tours, always just says Hi.

I came across no less than 6 people on horses, blocking the trail that was wide enough for a truck to drive ( just up from the parking lot).  As i was riding a Karen put her hand out as if to say stop.  I just waved and rode into the weeds ( slow enough to not scare the horses) and boy did she light up about MTB's.  I just ignored her.

I always slow down but some think we should walk our bike and bow to them.

I get what you are saying, but if I’m on a dirt bike and see horses coming up the trail I stop and shut the bike off until they pass. If I’m on a bicycle I will stop and wait as well. It’s not a bow to them thing, it’s a respect thing for me and I know how easily some horses can spook. Tend to earn a lot more respect from horse folks because of it and they don’t complain about me riding my dirt bikes.

It always pays off being respectful to EVERYONE on the trail. Unless of course they don't share the respect. Then hit them with the limiter.Wink

I know that dude you're talking about, kinda looks a bit like a hipster hippy and not your typical "horse guy" lol? He's cool to me too

Regarding the horse people, ignoring them and going around in the bush is not the cool thing to do. As much as we may not like it, horses always have the right of way to hikers and bikers alike. One spook can throw someone off and cause serious injury. My mother in law is an avid equestrian and being around her horses I see how even the most even-keeled and mellow horses can spook at the weirdest shit. Next time, just stop the bike and give them a hello and ask if its OK to pass. They always appreciate that and are usually respectful back.

Back to the topic about e-motos...i think the SurRon deal is WAY more of a threat than Stark simply due to cost. I'm seeing those things everywhere and now with that supposed "street legal" SurRon Ultra Bee they will probably only increase in numbers

EA6E4B12-2587-4947-AE36-F5339868CAA2The marketing for the Varg has been “different” for lack of a better word and while I am excited to start seeing them appear here in the states, Surron has quietly released the Ultra bee. Just got one a couple weeks ago and it’s an absolute blast. Roughly the same power as a 125/250f, 45-50 mile range (at least from my initial tests), can be plated so you can ride on public roads to get to the trail/track and at $6500, it’s a bargain compared to the Varg.

Yep, I saw that. I believe that one has been modified with a 21” front and 18” rear (it comes with a 19” front and rear). Looks fun and there’s a fast growing supply of hop up parts for these.

The way they integrate the seat and the plastics into the Varg overall design looks pretty sweet:

And if somebody still thinks that the bikes shown are prototypes.. look at the fit and finish of the bike in the post, the injection molded parts and everything. Quality of the production parts looks top notch!

Yes, the design of the plastics is pretty incredible. 7 bolts and the entire shroud+seat+side plates+rear fender slide off the back of the bike in one piece. Will make cleaning and servicing super quick and easy. Also, there's an air tunnel that directs airflow from the front of the bike back to the radiator that cools the inverter + motor.

A rare occurrence, but can you imagine if they all had been on electric bikes?

Are you kidding me? Laughing The shrouds, side plates, and rear fender are all 1 piece of plastic? So dumb. Break the rear fender and now I have to buy the new shrouds, plates and fender plastic piece AND all new graphics and numbers just to fix my rear fender?...unbelievable. This just keeps getting better. That $60 fix of a rear fender and fender graphic is now $100 in plastic + $150-250 full graphics kit.

edit: The rear fender is actually 2 pieces...smfh.

Most of these e-bikes aren’t meant to replace gas mx bikes, and are still in the pit bike category.

Neat from an engineering perspective.

In the here & now though, folks sometime break plastics, the shipping costs alone for that giant thing .. !!

& How does one change out that seat cover ?  Is the seat bolted to the plastic & can be removed ?

Now, from the brand ambassador, detailed Stark engineering commentary, possibly sent from a shitter in Rome. Very good.

Don't mention that delivery elephant in the room though.

No... they are individual pieces that connect together and can be removed as a single unit. Its actually really awesome. The whole unit together bolts to the frame with 7 bolts.

I'm typing this as slowly as I can in hopes you are able to follow. For the customers that put down $100 deposits, Stark provided estimated delivery dates. They did not promise delivery by a certain date. Do you understand the difference?

The Stark so called deposit arrangement is not legally binding and puts you on a list as an interested person, as a potential customer, not a contracted purchaser.

Stark may contact you to offer you a contract to purchase a motorcycle.

That little device saves them a lot of legal obligations, apparently.

Deposit is non refundable. Sounds like a "contracted purchaser" to me.

I'm just going to leave this here (with no comment): Stefan Pierer On KTM's New Building And More - Racer X (racerxonline.com)

I've said previously that I have one on order, and I hope they are amazing.  However....until they're in the wild, with real-world owners putting them through the ringer, I reserve a healthy level of skepticism as to the actual battery life.

Have you seen, on RacerX there is a new interview about KTMs new HQ, much of the last part of the article is about their view on electric. It doesn't paint a good picture on E-dirtbikes, he basically says, they won't last 30min+2.

Now, is that because KTM ow lagging behind or...?

Now, if I understand correctly he is positive for less powerful bikes, up to 125cc

What makes him the expert on E bikes?

Technology moves too fast to make a statement like that. I never thought I would see ev's with a range of over 300 miles. Let alone an ev truck. Remember when the first ev's wouldn't get 200 miles, some barely 100?

But more importantly, why would he paint a rosy picture of ebikes when they only have the aging e-ride playbike in their lineup? The second they launch a newer version of it, he will be beating the drum of "the future/expanding the sport".

Don't take this personally, but that's a pretty flippant statement about someone who is arguably leading the best combined on/offroad motorcycle company on earth with respect to pushing the technological edge.  The KTM group has some of the best talent on earth for pushing motorcycle development (and the powerplant technology that propels them).

Like I've said previously, I hope Stark can back up their claims - I have at least 6 months of other customers' deliveries and reviews to scour over before I pull the trigger on mine.  If their battery life just doesn't cut the mustard I'll decline mine, of course.

Real world results matter a lot more than marketing claims and even laboratory tests....

But I suspect it is just as much a long term marketing/brand strategy, as much as it is an engineering one.

One of the things KTM has been excellent at (and which the Japanese manufacturers have been tonedeaf toward) is recognizing the culture of the customer base as a whole. The focus on two strokes, the focus on minis, the focus off road bikes are all places where you see it.

There is excitement over the potential of ebikes, but it is obvious that there is also genuine resentment/consternation in the dirt bike base. KTM is taking a smart path by focusing on small displacements first and working their way up. That kid who grew up on an E50 (and later probably an E65) isn't gonna be "my ICE over my dead body" in 15+ years. Some of their fondest memories will be of their electric bikes.

The bottom line for Pit, and KTM is the same conundrum that Stark is probably facing.

With current best battery technology if they make a bike that can do a 30 plus 2 with a sight lap and a red flag restart it will be so heavy and bulky it will not be competitive, and so expensive it will not be saleable.

And that assumes that the battery cooling can be arranged so the battery doesn't overheat. The Energica MotoE bike has a split cooling system and the radiator used for the battery- which runs fully immersed cells and at around 50C max- is as large as the unit on a similar power ICE bike. The controller runs at a much higher temperature and gets it's own coolant system.

I imagine the requirements aren't really as stiff as you'd think, and most riders in mx don't actually spend a lot of time in the high efficiency zone of a 450 curve. Probably as much time braking or closed throttle for even a local A rider. In fact, that's why 4Ts took over: better output outside of peak efficiency area.

Most of us not named Tomac are probably running ICE bikes very inefficiently, and still not using much more than half a tank of fuel in a moto.

Why are you so angry?

Did you get electrocuted as a child and hate anything that's electric?

This guy had a pretty good time on his E-moto. Theres a spot for them alongside traditional gas bikes.

Remember when the EV trucks that "get 300 miles" don't in real life? lol
