Working for a living and getting screwed over by family members has put a sour taste in my mouth everytime I hear the word 'business man'

He didn’t make his millions racing, he made his millions playing the part of a tough guy that millions of kids bought into, and then had the brilliance to sell the brand. Let’s not forget about all the others that played the same part that he absolutely burned out of millions of dollars.

Jealous much?

Who are the others he burned millions out of, where are the lawsuits in sue-happy California?

Brian must have been the only one to be smart enough to make sure he had everything legally documented in his name.

Who's fault is that?

Why do people shout JEALOUS when someone is simply starting facts? I’m not jealous one bit, and I’ve done ok in life so there’s nothing for me to be jealous about. I don’t care for him because he successfull, I dislike him because he was such a dick for so many years.

He burned the whole Mullisha gang except Linkogel, who was smart enough to make sure he got his name on it too. He tried to burn him, but Larry still gets half.

I guess theoretically he didn’t burn the rest in a legal sense, but all those guy played their part, helped him build the brand  and didn’t get anything.

Honestly, I kinda like the kids attitude and the heart he shows

You better change your location to Reno, because you're going to get droped if Deegs find you.

With the help of social media Brian could go down in history as more aggro than tony alessi and big james combined. Dangerboy WILL get turned down for a ride bc of his dad at some point. Stamp it. Gonna be wild.

I don’t understand the whole “HeS OnLy 17!!” Part. That’s pretty normal in our sport.

"I dislike him because he was such a dick for so many years. "

And like I said in my opening thread was "I was never a Brian Deegan fan either."

But how many of us still act the same way we did in our twenties? And after watching some of his interviews and seeing what a shrewd businessman he really is and his total dedication to his kids, I changed my attitude towards him.

And that is what the thread intent was and how impressed I am by the 17 year old racer Haiden.

But the Haters will Hate on this Forum and unfortunately that will never change.

Ask G-man about how he protested Doc at a race after Doc opened his home to G-man and that will tell you everything you need to know about him. Wink

I suggest you look at Geboers and Everts. Not only champions, but very good ambassadors for the sport. I also would like to mention he would be the third fastest in the Lawrence family on a bike.

“His family has got to be one of the most successful race stories ever and it's only just starting with his kids as they enter the Professional ranks. “

His daughter is in the minors, and his kid has two podiums, and you’re claiming they’re one of the most successful racing families?

How about we pump the brakes and let the kids develop into something before we crown them the most awesomeness.

This.  Big time.  In motocross, champions only emerge through combat.  All else is hype.

"Lucky"

Watch that 2nd video Brian nearly died a couple times with horrific injuries and 6 months later he was back on the bike to compete.

He also created the Metal Militia brand and was smart enough to patent and market it and become a millionaire from it.

They would prop Haiden in a high chair in the backyard of his compound to watch his Dad and crew practice day after day and would throw a fit if they tried to bring him inside.

Both his kids were riding and driving at a very young age non-stop and so far it has paid off very early in their careers.

All this has also turned into many millions of dollars.

I have a hard time thinking this is "luck". 🙄

I believe Larry L. Started the mm. Brian started a LLC under the name & took control of it. 1st time I saw the logo. I was like that’s a nazi helmet. What the hell is a nazi helmet doing on the x games. Which everyone tuned in to watch Travis who was the best by far& most exciting.  I lost a few family members in Holland. They where lined up as kids & machine gunned.  My mom was shot at by nazi air craft. I thought it was a cheap shot to make money. And Very hoaky acting like tough guys. Go to s Phily or Jersey these r real tough guys.  He did sell alot of toys tho.

Bingo. Metal Mulisha started with the San Clemente boys and wasn’t moto oriented. It was a group of friends who would ride, surf, skate, etc. it was core in the sense of being counter culture. Deegan being from Nebraska somehow weaseled his way in when he came to CA and took it to the masses for a profit.

Motorcycle racing is full of them. Rea, Dunlop, Marquez, etc as well. Plus the Stewarts. The Deegan have 1 race win between them. Let’s pump the brakes

Lesson leant, never under estimate young and starving sharks from Omaha Smile

Personally, I think all credits back to Brian, nobody did anything or any brand except the MM back then and it takes a lot to make any business profitable, business is not just an idea but a lot of hard work and a vision behind, so there is nothing to shy away.

Hmmmm.
Super-talented kid trains, races, and finally wins a 125 Supercross.
Goes on to become the star of a whole new sport.
Capitalizes by getting the absolute most of it, through sacrifice and hard work.
Gets shat upon by those who think he's not "core" moto enough.
Raises his kid from day 1 to be better at "core moto" than he was.
Kid succeeds, beyond any expectations in his first year as a pro.

Yeah, let's hate on that. makes sense.

Exactly. That is core. Nothing to shy away. Let the haters hate.

P.S. And I am not such a big fan, not 100%, but I give credit where credit is due.

He printed shirts and sold them. When it got to big for the to do it they subbed it out to someone else. They were making a rumored 60k a month selling them, It’s really not that hard. If you’re giving out credit, give it to Link, and then Deegs

The hard part was the riding and the injuries, the  merch business had one employee.

All the real money was made when La Jolla bought it.

Thanks for the history and details (I am outside of that), I am always up for it.

I know, it was not that big, really SME like (and even smaller probably) ; MM was never mainstream and freestyle was not that big either although yeah there were some golden years, I just think he made very well with the cards he had so I give credit. I prefer this story line than crack heads (I know nothing but it is everywhere too). Plus I never had the ball to back flip a bike so I get the risks involved, especially because in the US the medical bills are not something not to be taken in consideration. No billion, no fortune, but a f... living I wish I would have made for myself now that I am almost his age, just turning 41 this year. I could have rode for xxx with a bit of luck too (big balls and hard work), so of course i am biased because it is kinda my generation too.

In all cases what I find interesting is that it shows that a working SME can make a very good living, in whatever industry ; any business can do well so people need to keep pushing to get there if they have or if they find the opportunity to do so. That can give hope ; it could almost be a FELD story line Smile   Anyway, I always enjoy your input, have fun !

Dude really?  While Link was obviously there from the beginning,  I don’t remember Link doing a 360 at the LA Coliseum and all the other xgames he won.  He made the brand blow up, not Link.

His riding helped, but the brand was bigger than Deegs and freestyle motocross. It was the whole culture that was attractive, in the same way Tapout was. Nobody with a Tapout shirt watched mma, but they loved the Tapout culture.

Deegs and Link were smart enough to see that.

The universe will even the score with them somewhere down the line for burning the kid that claimed Haidens bike at Lorettas last year. That was just a low class screw job all the way around by the adults in his camp
