2023.5 / 2024 KTMs chassis update?

Didn’t KTM brace/stiffen the frame from 16-17 too?

To those thinking it’s just a “vital thing” maybe keefer and everyone else including Pulp, MXA, and RacerX are confused on the model year/FE thing. I concede that KTM Group refer to it as the 2023 FE and not by the half model year “officially” however, it is understood as and referred to the .5 FE as long as i can remember and not sure why it’s so important to you guys to try to convince us otherwise.

Looks like the Factory edition GasGas did not get the same frame what Prado was running in GP's

Its hard to say from photos if pieces still flex same just different shape. Could be also that Prado is looking different feel than hobbyriders.

There’s a chance the GasGas brand only exists to burn through KTM’s stock of old parts and allow KTM/Husky to move on to newer designs. If KTM really is changing that shock tower after only one year, you can bet they have a whole pile of Rev A parts laying around that they’d like to get rid of.

My only interests in this is the fact that the AMA Gasgas riders won't be able to run the same chassis in 2023 season what the GP riders were using this summer.

I personally ride almost decade old two stroke's so this not something that I would worry about 😅

I don't think that's ever been the case given AMA uses production frames and GPs run anything they want.

When is the release date for 2024 KTM/Husky? Curious. Not that it matters any. But I have a 2022 FC 450 and a 2023 FC350 and I'll take the 2023 Frame.  But I'm only a Factory rider in my head and I go around whoops. So I digress

I’ve already seen the new KTM 450 FE but didn’t think to look at the frame.

24 fe will be shown in December. The expectation is that 24 standard models will be the same as the 23 fe which are just hitting dealers now with no fork or frame changes.

In the recent Keefer Tested show #359, he hinted at a very new frame that we will see on the upcoming 2024.5 Factory Edition.  I would guess this implies a lot more updates than just revisions to the shock tower.  Anyone got spy photos!

I have numerous friends who are weekend warriors and they all were complaining about the stiffness of the new KTM frame.

Crazy if that's true. New frames came out in 2023! Maybe it's bc a lot are complaining about it.

IMO The 24 frame is good once it is broken in. This bike comes from the factory extremely tight, and it just takes more time than usual.

I have a 24 450 SX-F with 9 hours, and it feels a LOT better than when the bike was fresh.

I rode my 22 450 back to back against the 24 450 last Tuesday at Glen Helen, and I personally think the new generation frame is a better platform. It doesn't exhibit the "KTM Squat" that the older generation frame suffers from.

I have purposefully  kept the 2024 bike bone stock except for a Vortex and power flow filter cage, I won't add my suspension or other stuff until about the 12 hour mark. The only negative is the vibration, but a lot of that probably has to do with the shit stock bars and grips.

I also have a 24 450. I changed bars/grips right away. I've got 5 hours on it and honestly do no what people are complaining about. I also rode it back to back with my 22 husky 450 and its light years better imo. The chassis soaks up everything and stays planted. Got back on the old frame and it felt way to flexy for me. Love this chassis!

Most people don’t know what they are feeling. The Honda is always regarded as rigid but it’s actually one of the softer frames out.

They raced it in the GPs earlier in the year and there are pictures of it with the window in the shock tower area… if you pay attention they went back to the standard frame for some reason, maybe has something to do with what roger was referring to “finding a new setting” in an interview following MXDN. In addition sextons whoop speed looked very respectable (much faster than webb) on the KTM introduction video… so maybe there is some truth to what he said.

I am more curious regarding keefer hinting toward a FE 350 for 24.5… very interested in that if i can get this broken left scaphoid to heal in time!

…if KTM does introduce a 350 factory edition, hopefully the bike will have more to offer than Red Bull graphics, akro muffler., upgraded wheels and a power parts clamp.  None of those things make the bike better in performance  than the standard model.

At the very least they should consider an upgraded shock and insert- equipped fork- otherwise it’s just a production 350 with bling…

I thought he said FE450 and 250? I didn’t hear anything about 350…

keefer mentioned it i think during his 24 350 video … i’ll try to find it.

I looked at all the RacerX videos and the Keefer testing ones… and of course i can’t find it now. I swear i’m not crazy he mentioned twice in the video that the rumor he has heard is for 24.5 that there will be FE for all three displacements… he also said to not quote him, but, with that said i’m not stating it will happen but hoping it will purely for the orange frame for me!

This, did the same... now when I ride my 2020 it feels way too soft.

Been riding my 2018 150 smoker a lot recently,  and after dialing in my 23 450, started throwing extra shims in the 2018 suspension

Btw, my 23 bike was way too stiff to begin with, I did 10mm back pegs and smaller sprocket that moves the wheel back 3mm and the back end works better for me.

After being on air forks since my 2015 rmz450,  I caved into peer pressure and brought the 6500 kit... might try the air forks again just to convince me the springs are better.

I was also gonna do clamps, waiting for black Friday special lol.... on Sunday I finished the day with a 40 minute moto and my hands wernt numb so second guessing that also.

Fwiw I find the 450 too loud, I now run ear plugs.

90% of what most riders perceive as a stiff or soft bike is the seat foam.    A clapped out seat is a bigger difference than the 23 chassis to the old chassis.

Never heard this before and it doesn’t make a lot of sense.

Yeah I don't think the seat makes a lot of difference. Most of the time you are not sitting down to ride the bike.

To me, this bike feels more like a Japanese motorcycle than a KTM ever has in past years.

The 450 motor is more powerful on then new gen bike, so it’s easier to get out of tight corners. When the old bike did the annoying  squat thing in the rear during acceleration it choppered out the fork so the bike under steered sometimes- this new one stays very balanced IMO.

With the more balanced chassis I can ride more forward than I could on the previous generation 450.
the stock fork and shock are pretty good with the 2024 valving adjustments, and I’m looking forward to trying new bars,  grips and my suspension after the break in period.
