Wow, did not expect such good feedback. Thanks to everyone!

My plan is to take it out to the track Wednesday to break it in, and have a friend/wrench help me with my jetting and sag and clickers and what not. Then I'm gonna take it to a guy in town who has helped me a lot and get that thing greased up real nice.

Should I drain the gas thats in the tank now, and add my new 32:1? Or will it make a difference?

Draining what the dealer put in may not be a bad idea. My new 90 YZ250 came with what had to be a 1:32 ratio premix in it. And that wasn't a typo. It cranked at the dealer but wouldn't fire 30 minutes later at home. Fouled three plugs on a half tank of fuel!

Unless I missed it, you didn't say what year your YZ-250 is. Anyway, there is about a 90% chance you'll need to go a bit leaner on the jets. Look at the main and pilot to confirm what you have, and then purchase the next two steps leaner on both the main and pilot. Pro Circuit has jetting recommendations on their website. They say it (all recent YZ-250s) comes stock with 178/50 (main/pilot) and they recommend 175/48 with everything else as it comes stock. On my CR250 their recommendations were pretty good. Definitely cleaned up the black gunk and ran much crisper.

1) Disconnect the auto- lube and start mixing your gas .....................20:1

2) Purchase a compression release and use it religiously.

3) Remove the silencer.............too much back pressure equates to power loss.

4) Don't listen to me.......................................ENJOY!

Best news posted on Vitalmx.com in some time. Congrats on the new ride. I would loosen all of the bolts and torque to spec, change fluids, and regrease bearings. Also, check the airfilter (mine was dry as a bone).

I re greased both of my axels and they were pretty damn dry. The air Filter was good. It's a 2009 by the way. It came with a few different Jets so I'm gonna have my buddy help me out with that tomorrow. I think I'll go ahead and drain all that gas first too, and put my 32:1 in.

Lookin forward to this guys! I'll post up some pics asap.

Thanks again.

I would be more concerned about greasing the suspension linkage, swingarm pivot, steering stem, and proper service of the air filter before any jetting changes were made. Check the tire pressures, proper clutch lever free play, chain tension. Make sure the airscrew is set to spec. Clean off the brake rotors with a little brake cleaner on a rag. Check the handlebar bolts. Check the coolant level.

Get a tankful of gas through it at least before you make any jetting changes. It's probably pretty close as it sits.

I read in MXA the 09 yz250s are damn near perfect since theyve hade a few years to get it good.

I just bought a super clean 03 CR250R to play on, the jetting was way too fat, and had oil all down the pipe just after a warm up.

These are all round good tips guys.

Speaking of the chain.....throw the stocker in the trash and replace with a good quality chain. Adding a tooth or 2 to the rear helps too.

I dont know, I ran it at 50:1 for two years then decided to rebuild it an the piston still looked brand new. I suppose its all preference. I also ran Amsoil for a few years at 50:1, never had any issues

Most fun I've ever had on a motocross track. Anyone who feels like they are losing interest in the sport, go out and buy one of those. Anyone that already has one, and feels like they are losing interest, you need your head checked. The bike was so gnarly and fast. I had to have a friend of mine set the sag for me, and once he did that, it was amazing. I haven't been this sore in a while, but that's alot of bike to handle after coming off of a 250F. I can't wait to get the bike dialed more and learn to ride that sucker even better. I must say I felt like I rode it better than I did the 4-stroke. Could have just been the first time fun factor, but I don't think so. I really felt better. You HAVE to be on the gas on a 2-stroke.

Tell me what ya think! Smile

Remember there is no one jetting setup that is right for every situation. So unless you are only ever riding on one type of track it always pays to keep an eye on it. I try to have it running in as small a jet as poss' without over heating the motor. The 'blueing' of the expansion chamber is a good indicator if you can't be bothered to check the plug.

As for gearbox oil use any cheap ATF and change it every couple of rides it is superb and works out real cheap.

As for premix oil - use the best synthetic you can get. Ground up leaves etc just don't cut it any more no matter how good it smells!

Good pic's, nice to see you enjoying "the FUTURE of Motocross" (even if it is the wrong blue!).

With the YZ 250, NEVER EVER use the check bolt when filling the transmission fluid. It is WAY too low. Fill it with the correct amount (750cc I believe).

I have had my 06 since it was brand new and couldn't be happier.

I learned years ago from factory Suzuki.....add an additional 100cc of trans oil to help cool the clutch.

Have fun with it...I have a 2006 YZ250 and love it too!

Regarding 2 stroke oils....the only oil that ever mucked up an engine of mine was 927.

That stuff must burn pretty damn dirty as it gummed up rings on an RM250 to the point that the bike wouldn't even start. Had less than 6 hours on a new top end when that happened.

Gearbox oil I used to run was Type F Ford, never had a problem with the clutch at all. Yammies used to be notorious for having lightswitch clutch engagement. If so try it once and you'll be amazed. I didn't believe the person telling me this tip at first and was shocked at how good it was.

I always just split the difference on the premix and ran 36:1, then get 4 jet sizes on either side of stock to start. The best jetting, the plug ceramic will be a very light chocolate milk looking with a thin (nickel-dime width) darker brown ring about 1/8th inch from the bottom of the ceramic. If it's any lighter than this don't ride another inch before going up 2 mainjet sizes.

Get in shape. Those things take more energy to keep in line then a Four Stroke. Also get used to getting smoked later in the moto and your lap times to fall off.

I have tried ATF in the trans.......shifting suffered.....drained and went back to Bel Ray 80W and will never run anything else. I had a Spectro sponsorship......and still paid to run the Bel Ray!

I'm spoiled, I have a 450 and a 07' YZ250. I ride the YZ for the fun factor once I get bored with the 450. Jetting as recommended by MXA and Pro Circuit is 175 main and 48 pilot. It may differ slightly for you in OR but I doubt it. The bike is very reliable!! The zook 250 may turn better, but the YZ is a much better overall bike. Good choice on your purchase! BRRAAAAAPPPP!!!!
