Sprayed Great Stuff in the bars of my 93 rm250 and apparently didn't let it dry enough . My buddy was racing my in bike amateur day arenacross and the throttle stuck in the whoops, damn near the funniest thing we seen that night.
Que about 2 years ago I was checking lever placement while my bike was on the lift . Well it started to lean and can't touch the ground . So now I'm laying underneath the bike , wife pulls in gives me the look like " what's this dumbass doing now " and walks in the house

Back when the Hondas had the split case design I put engine and trans oil in one side the night before 🍻was shifting a bit notchy and immediately realized what I’ve done so pulled in and fixed it
I did the same thing but put both in the tranny side, bike ran for like 20 minutes before blowing up.

Forgot to fasten the two top bolts that connect the subframe to the frame on my 450 before riding at the naches. Went to sit down a couple miles in after they fell out and the whole ass end of the bike dropped to the rear tire.

Also one time I tipped my 450 over in a water crossing before I knew more about how motors work and tried kicking it over and over without taking the spark plug out first. The piston rocked on the wrist pin and punched a hole in the cylinder. Bent the crank as well.

One more. This was a 250R quad, so forgive me. Troubleshooting it late at night, and it's partially disassembled (a frequent state for quads that are raced hard). I get it started on a stand and the throttle is wide open (probably had messed with the carb or cable). Kill switch disconnected as part of trouble shooting so can't hit that. No chain on at the time so can't use the brake. I yank the gas line off the carb, it's still running off the gas in the float bowl. So I yank the spark plug cap off and get a spark that ignites the gas which had spilled on my hand. And yet, didn't get a bad burn, fixed the rest of the stuff and raced the next day.

Exclusively on two wheels now.

Lol. A friend of mine did the same thing to a 86 cr250. No chain or kill switch, yanked the fuel line, then yanked the plug cap and it caught on fire

I was lucky enough to get a Yamaha 250F from the factory race team around 2007 I think. I changed the oil and forgot to torque the oil bolt. It seized 4th gear wide open at Cahuilla. Had a guy at Yamaha look at it, and it was fine. Put another 20 hours on it and sold it.

The last 6 or 7 years I rode or raced I would always smoke a big bowl of Norcal's finest and I smoked all day everyday as it was, so I had a built a big tolerance to it. Hell I would smoke starting at 8am on the freeway to my job as a loan officer. But the herb definitely helped me get in the zone. I know I'm gonna catch shit, but it really did keep me relaxed and focused. The times I've gotten hurt was when I didn't. I also used to take asprian because I heard it kept your blood thin and prevented arm pump, all it did was give me another ulcer.
One thing I would never do is ride with any booze in my system.

Love to smoke weed but would never want to try to ride high. Not really the vibe for me. Honestly prefer a Red Bull or coffee, get the intensity up. Weed would make me just want to Sunday cruise and wheelie everywhere.

Now that I quit smoking it I couldn't imagine doing it before riding. When I was younger and ignorant, I smoked so much that I didn't feel right if I wasn't. But it did keep me at ease and able to focus on what I was doing. It was a great feeling tbh hitting a jump or starting a race where everything felt like it was in slow motion. Hard to explain. But I also had a huge tolerance and it was just how my days went then. Now I would just load up and leave. Haha

Mine is the opposite I rode before doing something for work when I knew I shouldn't have.

Local track was having a Yamaha demo day. I was also scheduled to perform a military funeral that afternoon. I went back and forth on weather or not I should go. Then I obsessed over the time line and decided I was good. I had it all worked out and as long as I was first in line everything was gonna be good.

The day comes I wake the kid up early and we head to the track we both get signed up and I let the Yamaha rep know I have to be in and out quick. ( I worked at the track so was in before anyone else). He was cool about it. I rode the yz250f, yz250 and was excited to ride the yz125. I whisky throttle on the face of a table, bike goes flying I tuck and roll, bounce to my feet and run from the pain. Pick the bike up finish the lap and told the rep I wadded and bent the bars. He said not to worry about it and to park it behind the trailer. I look at the time and decide I still have time to ride the 450 so I jump in line. After 5 min in line I go to swing a leg over the 450 and the pain caught up to me. My knee was fucked. I wave to the next guy in line and tell him he can have it. I hobble back to the truck and into work to get changed into my uniform. Im thinking no big deal ill get one of the other Marines to present the flag. Unfortunately none of the others had ever presented and we junior to me. 45 minute drive to the cemetery and my knee is throbbing. We get into position before anyone shows up so no one will see my limping. Everything is going smooth, shots were fired, taps played, we raise the flag the fold was perfect. Then it was time for me to turn take a few steps, kneel down and present the flag. It took everything I had to keep a straight face and not yell as I kneeled down but I did it. Standing up hurt just as much as kneeling but no way was I gonna show any pain. then i had to grit my teeth and walk each step feeling like a dull screw driver being stabbed into my knee but I refused to limp. It was only about 20 steps until I was able to position myself behind the crowd and I stayed there until every one left so they would see my limping. By time we got back to work and changed over my knee was swollen as a football and my damn big toenail peeled off. Turned out it wasn't a good decision to go ride.

OK....here we go. I've left a rag in my airbox, I've left my air filter on the work bench. I've forgotten to turn my gas on.
I have put directional tires on wrong. I've put pistons in backwards. I've forgotten to tighten seat bolts. I've mistook the white flag for the checkered and pulled off the track at Mammoth. Two guys passed me, and I jumped back on the track and passed them both back on the last lap. They must've been thinking WTF? I have forgotten my gas can at home. I've missed my moto.....This is just off the top of my head. I'm sure I have done more stupid shit than this...Shit happens when you've been motoing for 50 years, since you were 8....I've forgotten my racing pants at home, but I can honestly say I have NEVER EVER put them on backwards!Laughing

As a youngster, after falling and breaking my left arm...while my parents were away on a weekend and I was staying with my Aunt & Uncles house, I soaked the cast off of my arm in the bathtub, and went riding dirt bikes with my cousin on a nearby MX track. I crashed my ass off, and broke my arm again!

My parents were way less than pleased with me.

Way to often ignored my doctors timeline and raced way before I was totally healed up. Trust me today at 60 I am paying for it in a big way.

3 hour harescrambles, iron manning it. Twice I went to the line and guts start to boil...I gotta shit. The first time, I got about 1/2 way and just let 'er rip in my pants. I made my wife go pick up my trophy. Second time, I ran over behind a tractor. Pretty much in full view but when ya gotta go....Blush

My Dad used to do that on all of our bikes growing up. He’s like we gotta protect the leather. 😂

Its not what I did, but what I didn't do......check my gas tank. Ran out of gas with the holeshot in the second turn.

I was on the starting line warming up my bike when I looked over to my friend next to me and pointed to his steering stem bolt that was spinning as he revved his bike. He shrugged his shoulders, mumbled something under his helmet and took off with the rest of us when the gate dropped.

Used to take my son to Start West Friday nights after work to ride. On this particular evening I got a bit around the track and the bike just died. I kicked and kicked but nothing. Pushed it back to the truck and as it turns out. My son (unknown to me) turned the gas on for me, and I just reached under to turn the lever not paying attention to which way I was turning it, and actually turned it off after it was already on. While that's by far not the stupidest thing I've done, it's one everyone can relate to.

My friend got passed in the last turn at Saddleback. He was so pissed when he got back to our pits that he threw his helmet in anger. We were parked on the far side of the track, on the top level (the top level of suicide uphill back in the day). His helmet rolled out of the back of the truck and bounced 100+ yards down each level until it came to rest at the snow fence lining the track. If the fence wasn’t there it would’ve bounce across the track into the infield underneath the trees.
I’ve been riding so long that I can keep thinking of stupid shit that either I or my friends have done…. probably until the next time I do something stupid.

I had a 3 rung trailer that carried the bikes sideways. My friend (the same one that threw his helmet down the suicide up hill levels) put his bike in the middle and forgot to tie down his rear wheel. His rear wheel fell off and dragged sideways down the road. It must’ve happened when we got close to the track because his wheel wasn’t completely destroyed, it wasn’t damaged at all! However, his rear tire had a flat spot worn down to the carcass. The inner tube was intact and everything else was good…He said, ”Fuck it, I’m racing it!” We happened to be at the Edwards Airforce Base track in the dessert, which is deep sand. He said he could barely notice it on the track, but when he was riding on the hardpack through the pits, his head was bouncing up and down like he was running an eccentric rear wheel.

Another friend of mine washed his airfilter with gasoline then put it on the stove to dry. The pilot light lit it on fire...poof!
