This is bizarre. Every single year we freak out here because top riders go to these one-off races and get injured and mess up their up and coming seasons and how stupid it is that they race these (I do not always agree with these sentiments). But it makes me wonder if there was not more to this than a visa issue:

Hmmmm seems to me it might be a Honda deal and they’re using immigration visa as excuse. Honda doesn’t want guys doing overseas races. Investment I get it.
So maybe Kenny was right.

Oddly enough, I read Kenny and Brayton would be replacing them for Paris. For the life of me, I can't recall where I read that this morning though.

I agree though, this could be a sideways attempt to protect their investments for 2023.

Not too long ago…

There was a rider that couldn’t leave the US for fear he wouldn’t be allowed back in due to his immigration status being in some sort of hold/delay.

So, I’ve seen this before.

Didn't Dean Wilson get stuck in Canada one time? He raced one of the Canadian rounds of SX and was stuck in Canada for an extra week or 2. I think Martin Davalos also missed a race because of something similar.

Don't believe this at all.
(BTW, they are not americans so they are already "outside")
I blame Honda for this, and I suggest they could just say "we pay them a fortune to ride for us and stay injury free, so we are not letting them go in Paris" That would be honest and understandable even if not what we'd like.
But I'm not a lawyer, so I could be wrong

but they say they will race it next year (knowing they are still honda racers)... so this makes no sense what you are saying

If they aren't vaccinated and aren't US citizens they wont be allowed back in the country. I can almost guarantee this is the issue.

Same with party Marty Davalos I think he couldn't leave for the Canadian rounds because he wouldn't be let back in.

I don't think they are worried about not being able to get out of the US, I think its more of getting BACK into the US. When Dean Wilson had the issue , it was not when he was leaving , it was when he was trying to get back into the US. Yes they are not from the US, but they are here already and contracted to race here. I've only gone to Canada, and it was one time. But going from the US to Canada was like paying a toll. It was a bigger process to get back into the US even as a US citizen . If there is any reason that could cause an issue with getting back into the US. that is a good reason not to go and risk your main job for a side job. It could also just be Honda not wanting them to go.Who knows. Fans are always asking for racers to be open and tell the truth about stuff, but then think they are not doing that when they say something that the fan disagrees with or doesn't like. Riders have had problems like this in the past. Yes there could be a bunch of other possible reasons they are not going. Who knows maybe an injury? or family problem, or maybe both of them are going to be fulltime 450 guys and they want to get better prepped? Who knows. But Kenny filling in adds to the story. Sounds like he is still kinda in with Honda . Is there a chance he returns to Honda still? If Honda was going to not let them go, why wait so long to make them pull out? whynot just tell them to not commit to going at all? Like they had told Kenny. I was looking forward to seeing them riding,so I am disappointed about them not going.I hope that this is worth it and they have an amazing 23 season.

Paris SX would have been in the Lawrence bros contracts, Honda agreed to it a long time ago. WSX was not in Roczen's contract and he committed to it before getting Honda's consent. Not comparable circumstances.

Does anyone follow other sports and there stars have the same contracts for other interest. Honda is just protecting there riders against injuries in offseason races. I'm assuming if the Lawrence brothers want to factory contract this is the price they have to pay.

Davalos lost a championship because his visa wasnt sorted to attend a Canadian round. He was the points leader going into that race.

He ended up losing that championship by quite a bit though. If I remember that race was near the beginning of their series. I think he was like 30-40 points behind by the end of the season.

It for sure caused him the points lead but he was pretty far out of the championship by the end of the season.

Oh yeah our non-citizen vaccine policy is virtually impenetrable.

I’m calling BS. How many riders have been coming and going from Cardiff back to the US to Australia back to the US? Chad Reed didn’t have any issues, Kenny isn’t having issues, Dean……

And in the case of Dean Wilson, it was Canada that wouldn’t let him leave. The US wasn’t keeping him from coming in. Canada wouldn’t let him out.

There’s actually a ban on bad haircuts for international travel. The boys where unable to connect with there French stylist for a trim. For there new visa photo.
