The first step is a very clear decision - the artificial rush you get from drugs is a lot easier and more cuddly than facing reality day-to-day.

That part seems to get overlooked when it comes to "contracting" this "disease".

I've been down this road myself multiple times. It's a choice.

100% accurate. The "Disease Concept" of addiction is mostly bullshit, drummed up in the late 80's & early 90's as a way of getting the government to fund thousands of treatment centers & rehabs across America, and to pay for the certification of millions of CADAC (Certified Alcohol/Drug Addiction Counselors) during that time.

Addicts become addicts because of frequency of use. Most start using a substance habitually because it allows them to self-medicate feelings...and their inability to deal with life on lifes terms like those who do it without having to rely on a chemical or substance daily. The feeling one gets when one becomes addicted, both psychologically & physically gets to be "normal" for them, no matter how jacked up it makes them and how abnormal they appear to those around them.

The "Disease Concept" took all the responsibility away from the addict for destructive behavior or criminal activity. They "can't help it". I got sober by taking responsibility for my life...and with a lot of help from God above. It's what I still do every day! I choose to deal with life, be responsible for my life & be a productive human...without numbing myself with alcohol and dope.

So what was it Davis…What made you write 3 paragraphs putting down a group and make up bullshit statistics, pretending to be an expert on something. Did somebody steal a girlfriend?

I’m going with you got smoked regularly by someone with addiction problems?!

I do agree with that , but I really find it hard to get past the beating of an old lady?! What if it was your Gran, Mother , Wife etc?
Would you cut him some slack because he was high and is fast on a dirt bike?!

I believe in second chances for most bar murderers, rapists, child molesters.

All the best to Nicco and hope he lives a happy and clean life. BUT the cause of the addition was MX injury’s. That in itself raises a big red flag for me.
I'm not sure mate but are you confusing Nico with Mike Healey?

Nico definitely lost his mind and beat up hi partner, that im believe was a drug and alcohol conselor.

They both relapsed, and he hurt her pretty badly.

There's more to the story, but it's online

ANY addiction counselor worth his/her salt will plead with a recovering addict to change people, places & things that they at all associate with or were associated with when they were actively using. Thats why I questioned, in an earlier post, why anyone who cared at all about this kid would allow him to return to a sport that can include falling down and getting hurt...and would be an easy nosedive back into his opiod addiction if he was in a lot of pain. Tylenol doesn't cut it in those situations!

But, that's all he knows...and he probably doesn't want to work at a "real job" that requires a daily discipline and you're paid by the hour...but might keep him sober.
You had a very good argument going for why he should try other avenues.

Until you passed judgement in your last sentences......

If you haven't lived it, you don't know...if you have . . .I feel your pain.

I am asking if it's prudent and wise for a pain med addict to return to an occupation and hobby that are catastrophically risky to the overall well being of the person. The potential pitfalls are high risk and catastrophic.

So I know nothing about prescription pain meds so forgive me if this sounds stupid but do they not make any pain meds that are stronger than OTC stuff like advil without opioids or any other addictive substances in them yet?
I have been wondering why there are not any strong pain meds that do not give you some kind of high and are not addictive yet. It could help so many people . Maybe there are now, but 12 years ago there were not any that my dr.s knew of . I had broke just about all the bones in my foot and had 6 surgeries over 11 years before finally getting it fixed to the point I was pain free. I always hated the way the pain meds made me feel so I took Aleve and Ibuprofen, and it ended up damaging my stomach . So then I had to take the prescription meds. I was able to ween myself off them . Since I was on and off them for around 10 years and for a solid 3 years towards the end of my foot issues my Dr.s told me it would be dangerous to just stop. I aggressively reduced the amount I was taking each 2 weeks. It could have been each week , but I had read a lot about all of the issues that it could cause .At first it was not too bad and then as I got closer to being off them , I was having panic attacks . Before having been on pain meds and coming off of them, I wondered how anybody would ever try any of the drugs that ruin peoples lives. I had a very different idea of people that had become addicted to a substance.I think I was very lucky that I hated how it made me feel being on the pain meds and after the pain was gone it was relatively easy to get off of them for me.When I was first given pain meds it was before there was so much info out there about addiction and how dangerous they are. It really opened my eyes to how there are many pathways to becoming addicted to something. I am grateful that my addiction was physical and not as much mental as it could have been. My foot hurt so bad back then that I would not have been able to get out of bed without pain meds. I never want to put myself in the position that I have to take them again. I'm happy that Nicco is riding again. But I worry about the potential for injury too. And it makes me wonder how there is not something that takes away pain without any "high" or addictiveness. Maybe there is something now , but as of 12 years ago there was not anything. Next time I have a Dr. appointment I'll have to ask my Dr. if he has heard of any new pain meds or why its not currently possible for one like that to exist.

addiction is a hereditary thing

davistld01 wrote:
Only 3% of addiction is brought on (even slightly) by genetic predisposition. Get your facts straight.
Hey davistld01,

Since you won’t admit that you are talking complete bullshit, I will lay it out here: “genetics have 40% - 60% influence on addiction”. Varies on drug

https://health.clevelandclinic.org/is-addiction-genetic/amp/
(Very easy updated read by reputable clinic)

Your bullshit narrative doesn’t fit here, you’ve been full of bullshit for years in fact. And now it’s come to the point where you are making up numbers completely lying. WTF!!! I don’t know Nico or the situation with the girl

Has he repaid his debt to the motocross community? All the hard working families he scammed and cheated out of their money?

Izzi lost his chance to be a part of the motocross community, IMO. No amount of jail time for beating women will give him that privilege again. The fact that red bull and the event promoters allow him to compete in this is questionable at best.

Hope Izzi rides well, and stays clean. Making amends to the people he's hurt is happening, or will in due time as long as he stays clean. Give him a chance to do so you jackasses!

I hope Nico turns it around and can be the best dad he can be to his daughter, but it absolutely baffles me that people will always for some reason give guys like these all kinds of opportunities and support when there’s 100 hungry privateers living out of their van and making mains.

He looks and sounds sober in the swap video which is good. reminds me of the kid he once was. Hoping he stays healthy and finds happiness in real life sober.

If he is able to stay clean and free of drugs, and make a comeback to be at the highest level of racing again . He could be an amazing inspiration for people that are struggling with similar issues. I hope that he makes an effort to repay anybody who he has sold stuff to that never got their items no matter how his racing goes. I would have loved to have the skill on a bike that he and J-Law had/have. Its so sad to see the talent wasted . Drugs, or the lack of drugs when you are hooked can make people do some crazy stuff. Giving people a chance and supporting them , could help make a difference in them being able to kick the habit. I don't know that I could be so forgiving if he had hurt my mother or sister, or somebody I know, unless the person he hurt was able to forgive him or give another chance. It will be cool to see how he finishes and what he does after .
