50 years ago, Richard Nixon was president and we were still in the Vietnam war. Here is the level of fun in 1973… about half a century ago… 1973 CR250M and 1973 Chevy Camaro RS Z28. No internet, no smart phones, no cable tv even, but we didn’t think we were missing out on anything!

Rally sport with the Z28 option, i think that is how they called it.
I had a 72 Camaro SS- sold it in 1999
and a friend had that model all original low mile
sold it in the early 2000's

Those are awesome photos. Really sweet examples of that period. So glad I was around during those times to see it first hand. The funniest thing is I turned 17 in 1980, and can not tell you how many of my friends bought 69 Camaros as their first cars. They were 10 year old cars by that point and people were giving them away. They could be worth so much today, and they were buying them for a few hundred dollars.

Seems like there was nothing to miss in those days. Must have been a great period to be young.

Hi Rob.. I thought they were both options but can't be sure how they called it. The Rally sport option had heavier springs and sway bear, added a rear sway bar, different side mirrors, and had the split bumper with different front running lights/ turn signals and extended nose piece. The Z28 option gave you access to a more powerful engine and a stiffer rear leaf spring.

I was a little too young to drive in 1973, but my first car was a 1973 that I bought used around 1978. I sold it to help pay for graduate school, went to Japan for 15 years and the first thing I did when I came back to the US in 2003 was buy another 1973 Camaro which is the last year of the chrome bumpers.

I never owned either in 1973. I never even saw a 1973 CR250 in 1973 in the new england area, the first I saw was in 1974. In 1973 I had a 1972 Honda SL175 with the lights removed and a pie plate front number plate Smile . My first real 2 stroke MXer was a CR125 I bought in 1974. In 1975, I bought a left over 1974 CR250 real cheap along with the 1975 CR125 that I raced. The excitement when the new model MXers came out in that era was extreme. you would never know what to expect, whereas today, the bikes have been basically the same for the last 15+ years.

We're about the same age, my first car was a 66 mustang I bought for $500.00 and my first mx bike was a 76 CR125 I bought for $300.00.

I can still remember seeing/riding the new CR's in 1973. It was as though the future had dropped a couple works bikes off for anyone to buy. Nice pics.

What a time piece. Way cooler than TikTok trannies and getting arrested for not wearing your mask between bites. You guys had it GOOD.

1973! Started the year racing my tricked out XR75 and completely outgrew it by the end of the summer. I was a tall 13 year old. Lucky for me I was able to grab a ride on the first CR125 that hit the shop in August and I spent the next couple of years hacking the frame to pieces to keep up with the suspension revolution. By 1974 I was racing both the CR125 and the CR250 every weekend and wishing I was old enough to grab a AMA Pro license AND a driver's license.

Oh hell yes! The '73 Honda Elsinore 250 was my first full size bike when I was 13! Rode the heck out of that thing at Saddleback Park! GREAT TIMES!!!!!

To this day I believe the 1973 CR250 is the finest looking MXer ever built. I had a fully restored one in my garage around 10 years ago. Looked/drooled over it for. several years and sold it for around $1,200 more than I paid for it. I wish I had the money to hang one on the wall n the living room….beautiful bikes

Yep.
Was making the awesome transition from a DT125, to a 125 elsinore.

I'd give up my front seat in hell for that honda back in my garage.

Back then my car wasn't all that cool.
A 64 dodge dart wagon.
Slant six, one barrel carb, with a push button automatic transmission.
But it had a trailer hitch.

I got off the school bus in '73 and my parents
had a brand new 250 Elsinore sitting in the driveway waiting for me. It was an awesome surprise, an awesome bike, and an awesome pair of parents! Cool
