This for sure. I raced all three in AX and I can’t think of anyone consistently better. Brayton was fast too, but wasn’t in AX as long as the other guys.

Jimmy Gaddis, Buddy Antunez, and Dennis Hawthorne is probably your top three. Throw in Bowers and Demuth and that about covers it.

Hell, add in Junior Jackson too.

I've been to hundreds of Arenacross races since '94 and I fully agree.
Maybe Demuth before Bowers but these 3 guys for sure.

The guy coming up to watch is Michael Hicks. He's amazing indoors.
*Honorable mention to Jeff Gibson too, he just didn't do as many and did SX instead, but if he did, he would have been in the conversation.
Gaddis was just before my time but his corner speed was unreal and like no other. Cliff Palmer was good too.
Shoutout to my boy Tommy Hofmaster who has 15 career AX wins and the 2004 Dash for Cash title. We traveled together doing AX for 12 years. Time of my life.

Hicks has insane indoor talent. I think if he had a good SX bike and support and could train full time (I think he works full time) he could do some damage in SX.

Budman, Demuth, Lange, Bowers, Hicks, Peters, and the inside line assassin and my AX teacher Brian Stone.

I would love to see Hicks and Peters race each other for an entire season, but it likely won’t happen.

Honorable mentions: Gaddis, Buehl, Cooper, Goodman, Jonesy, Hayes, Regal, and everyone that raced the whole ama series from 2002-2009.

Yeah Tommy was fast I saw him at aztalan and Byron 97,98 he progressed really fast. Then top 10,s in ax in 99 with a stacked field. 14 of 15 on the gate could win. 98 at Byron in 125 b Chad Johnson was faster then the pros. In 2000 he was pro and won 1 ax. He raced ax 10 + yrs top 3 most yrs. He races vet a yet on a endure . A vet a rider said he was jumping stuff he didn’t even think about. Who didn’t race ax in the 90,s to 04 ish. Jeff Wiloh was winning his 1st yr. Bradshaw, factory Phil the list goes on forever. There’s only a few races on yt most r from 02.

The old track layouts and the old format, with all the top guys racing two displacements (plus a Dash for Cash) two nights and a row made for some incredible racing. Wish it was possible for such a thing to still exist.

Antunez will always be the King of AX, as he absolutely dominated while the series was still at it’s peak. I’d pick Demuth and then Bowers, but can understand that some would flip those two the other way around.

Dennis Hawthorne isn’t as well known to a lot of moto fans, but his name definitely deserves to be in the conversation.

It was much more obvious on the outdoor tracks. Brian Stone would just be pulling away from everyone, smooth and slow looking like. His laps were an 1/8 mile shorter than everyone else's.

AX whoops, most fun ever! You'd show up on Friday and concrete would be showing between the whoops. At one of the KC AX's I think, waiting for the first practice to start, Jeff Hedden - "I'm just going to click to 3rd and let 'er eat" Half of us didn't take off so we could watch. Sure enough he holds it on and goes right on through them. Good times.
