1. Good on DonM for owning it, but it does suck that you were basically calling all of us that said this didn’t pass the smell test a bunch of idiots
2. DC really needs to make a public statement in this as it’s his event and Cotter is his employee
3. Slow old guy, do you want to say this kid is full of shit?
4. Wish this kid would’ve had his phone on during this
5. They better change the rule for next year or they are going to have a line of people claiming bikes

Don't hold your breath on DC coming in here and owning up to anything. This is the same guy that completely shuts down a professional sporting series for 20+ days so he can hold an amateur event for an entire week that costs families $8,000 to $10,000 a piece. It might be too late but AMA/Feld/Nationals need to move on from DC. And quickly.

Isn’t that what cooksey has been claiming for years? Glen Helen? This year seems to be a shit show for DC all around.

Weege deff covering, this sport is all about the big guys protecting the big guys image and getting those of us on the local level fall for their bullshit like superdupercross and “growing the sport” aka growing their wallets

Lol, yep always on a family vacation when this stuff happens. At least the greasy Italian in Europe owns it, but the choir boy act over here is wearing thin this year

I feel it’s been wearing thin for a few good years now it’s just too obvious to ignore now. I won’t jump too far into it as I don’t want to drone on so I’ll leave it at that

Just think about the direction things have slowly gone since 2007

Remember kids, once again this just shows us that rules only apply to normal people. Special people will always get special treatment.

I wasn’t a valedictorian or Rhodes Scholar but don’t really have a problem with simple math. My question was based on your statement and I was able to count that number on one hand with a digit or two unused. Now you say there were “less than 10 people involved”. Are there any more than that? I need to know if I need to take my shoes and socks off so I can “do the math”…

So much obfuscation in this thread by people who know the truth.

Wow, what a clown show. For such a great sport and fun activity, it's truly sad it's ran by such a group of negligent buffoons.

I agree with most on here. Time to kick the Coombs clan to the curb. Whatever good they've done for the sport is essentially null at this point. And there's a 0% chance Yamaha will ever see a cent of my money after this.

Yea where is Slow Old Guy? He said he was in that room with Cotter, Deegan, and Brennan so why didn't he educate Deegan on the claiming rule seeing he's AMA.

No respect for anyone that bullied Brennan into pulling the claim. Star Yamaha can go suck a rock. Yamaha will never get any of my money and I hope many others follow. (they wont) Heads should roll for threating to pull a dealership if somebody does something completely legal. (aka: extortion) I also think some legal action should take place for interrogating a minor without parental supervision. I cant wait to see the Lawrence brothers show Deegan how it's really done on a factory bike. Rubbing is racing....right?

I think I remember a NFL head coach once said about his players "Not everyone is treated equal, but everyone is treated fair" basically explaining why star players get star treatment and the rest don't.

So funny that a majority of the people here believe the "fake news narrative" but will believe that Weege is going to report anything to paint a major player in his bosses multiple business ventures in a bad light
Nobody outside the industry cares.

Glad this world never intruded on my family's enjoyment of motocross and motorcycles.

The American amateur Mx scene is batshit crazy
When has it ever not been? lol

Quick story...when I was 10 I was just coming back from a broken arm. I was walking the track (same place I broke my arm at) while my dad was signing me up. The dad of my one my rivals comes over and starts talking to me out of nowhere asking if my arm still bothers me, if it's going to freak me out every time I go over that jump that I could snap my arm again, if I'm worried about getting hurt again, just trying to psych me out. I told him something like it was good enough to whip his kids ass and sure enough I did.

At the time it was all just head games and part of the deal but when I look back at it now those kinda things actually amaze me.

I think we have all learned a few lessons about claiming a motorcycle at an Amateur national.

* Wait until the desired factory motorcycle is lined up for THE last race
* Walk into the AMA office with cash in hand
* Ask the AMA official to take possession of the motorcycle as the rider exits the track
* Load up the bike of your dreams, strap it down tightly, kick the truck into gear and wave goodbye
* no drama, no interrogations, no motor swaps, no one losses a dealership, just a well-executed plan

It would have been much cooler for Star Racing to uncrate a stocker, set the sag and watch Haiden lay wood to his peers or even go 2-3-1 on a stocker. Afterward, raffle the bike off Bob Hannah style and donate the proceeds to a local charity helping the flood-ravaged locals. Haiden shows everyone he really is the man and all the hot chicks get to squeeze his moto buns while he collects trophies on the box.

Ironically, Haiden's father spent his early career sticking it to "The Man" and now he is "The Man".

All the LL classes should race stock-ish motorcycles. The results will be the same.

Anyone have that one co-worker that’s bounced around from job to job, everywhere he goes he thinks he’s awesome and everyone else is the problem? When I’m reality it’s them?

That’s how I feel about the Deegans, I want to like them. Hayden straight up has crazy talent and a good work ethic. Brian always says the right things about how they want to be and the things he wants his kids to work for. And they go and pull some crap like this. And you realize why people have a hard time cheering for them.

What a fucking pussy Brian is. Intimidating a kid for playing fair, working hard, and going about purchasing Haiden's bike legally. God, that irks me. Tim Cotter too - time for this old bag to be taken out back along with all the other filth involved in this incident. And while I'm at it, Weege needs to grow a set of fucking balls and stop laughing and/or shouting every time his smooth brains tells him to speak and start being a real journalist. Just taking Tim Cotter's word at face value and repeating the lie on Pulp is ridiculous. He was at Loretta's. Why didn't he try to talk to the kid there to get his side of the story? Someone tried claiming the bike of the most popular Amateur rider ever and then mysteriously changes his mind and Weege doesn't question those circumstances and immediately try to get the other side of the story? He's the perfect lap dog to DC and the factories/sponsors. And lastly, how does one of the sports biggest journalists not even READ THE RULEBOOK before he opened his mouth about what happened? This entire situation disgusts me.

Why is every media outlet not reposting this kids video is another question I have since they were all quick to tell the Deegan's side of the story.

Please forgive me if this has been mentioned but did anyone notice the Rekluse cover on the podium for the 2nd schoolboy moto win had a star logo on it, but the last moto didn’t? It could be simply a cover swap but seems more like a engine swap.

I get that the situation could have been handled differently and better. But let’s use some basic human psychology. If your kids bike was being claimed you would probably want to know why and maybe be a little heated about it, even if it was a stock bike. Even if the rule exists, doesn’t mean people won’t get mad. Eminent domain exists but I’ve never met someone exuberant that it happened to them.

Did Brian ask the same questions everyone else would have asked if we were in his shoes? Did he cross a line and threaten the kid? Only one side to the story right now. Lots of people thought Jonny Depp was a horrible person until the defamation case went public. There are always two sides to the story, so far we only one side. Just because the Deegans and Star are mostly silent or tip toeing around it doesn’t mean everything the other side says is true.

As for Haiden, so he went to the other kids camp, I didn’t catch if he said anything to the other guy. Did he just go and look? Did he harass or threaten him? Again, if it was any of our bikes being claimed we would more than likely want to put a face to who is taking it, even if we never said a word to them.

So Brian cheated 20 years ago, does that have to mean his character is defined by that for the rest of his life? Are we all as individuals defined by a single choice we made years ago? Is he not allowed to change? Brian is not perfect but I’m proud of how he turned out compared to the person he portrayed when he was in full blown Mulisha mode at the height of his career. By all accounts he should be a statistic of how your life/relationships fall apart when you live a hard party life and make it your identity as he did as “The General” for so many years.

As for the kid claiming, he had every right to do it. He was not in the wrong to do it. However, life does have unwritten rules whether you like it or not and he learned the hard way. Breaking unwritten rules has consequences just like breaking the written ones. We don’t have to like it, but it’s true. Sometimes the unwritten rules are more real and important than the ones that are written down. Just look at the political landscape in this country for many many examples.

Even if Star doesn’t give the full details of their side of the story it would be a great gesture and probably a good PR move to give the guy a full GYTR bike as a sign of good faith. Essentially saying, things could have been handled better and we may agree to disagree but here is a sign of our humanity. We are not the cold hearted individuals that we are being portrayed as.

The “unwritten rules” are made up by the elite to only benefit the elite. If we all follow them, things only get progressively harder for us normal folks. Good on the kid for not being worried about going against those in power.

I could have agreed with most of what you said right up until the “unwritten” rule BS. You sound like a shill and you’re part of the problem with all of this.

The rules don't say you have to have a reason to claim a bike. Nobody should have to answer that question because it's not relevant. They just have to point to the rules, which Schofieod did multiple times.

Use your own 'basic human psychology' argument from the standpoint of Schofield, a 17-year old kid that had officials (and Brian Deegan for some reason) grilling him without his parent anywhere around. Also, when Schofield left, how do you think he felt being followed by multiple other people (Haiden and his cronies)? Didn't he mention someone had to tell these guys to get out of Schofield's pit area?

Here's a kicker for you, why was Brian Deegan even allowed to talk to the Schofield about this? Does he have the pink slip for the bike? At the point the claim was initiated, there is no reason to have the opposing camp ask any questions, they should be given a rulebook and some reading glasses.

What a bunch of BS you posted^^

The point is, there is an AMA claiming rule.
The kid invoked that rule.
Deegan, Cotter, Luce...(and, it seems the AMA in its' lack of oversight of the claim) pressured the claimant. That is out of bounds. Not even speaking to the pressure on the kids sponsor etc.

Brian shouldn't be involved in the claim process, nor should Cotter or Luce.

All of the blather ace402 wrote is irrelevant.

Why do people have to make up shit to cover up facts? SMH.

I wasn’t advocating or justifying the unwritten rules, merely stating that they are real, and to act as if they don’t is foolish and naive.

By all accounts both Russia and the US should have crushed Afghanistan, yet the insurgents were able to repel the best armed forces in the world. The enemy always gets a vote. When you’re to arrogant to admit that you increase your odds of dying.

Star got their dick slapped for not thinking anyone had the stones to claim their bike.

The kid got a black eye for thinking he could claim it without consequence.
