I thought last years supermini would have been a killer bike to claim. With the method wheels and all the blig.

Personally I think claiming should be something to be encouraged and become a thing.
Privateer families being able to get the best equipment already set up from the factories at a good price. Then use that bike for nationals amateur events for the next 12 months.

You're asking a lot here, they won't look beyond the name Deegan here.

Can someone explain the claiming rule? Just curious how the process works.

$17,500.00 was put on the table for Deegan's bike and after a lengthy discussion between the various camps the "Claim" was retracted.

Btw, Deegan's motor is good but is still 4 odd HP down compared to the full factory units.

Edit - Deegan is in for Ironman.

It was a Claim but was eventually retracted.

People also haven’t mentioned the moto his wheel blew out, he got off the track and cut half of it to beeline to the mechanics area, then pointed at his bike and pulled back on from the mechanics area. If the wheel had lasted he would of finished the moto after cutting multiple lanes of the track.

The idea of the claiming rule is to level the playing field. The rule is you can claim a bike for 2 times the msrp. Its to keep someone from entering a bike 3 or 4 times or more the msrp or for fear it might get claimed. Its taboo for the buyer so it is rarely exercised.

I wish someone claimed my supermini from Lorretta's. I had a stroker motor Kx 112 with a 1990ish 125 carb attached, I was doing practice starts next to AC92 and his bike sounded like a 65 compared to mine. Biggest issue with that bike was low end, I was 16 and 130-140 and the carb liked to pop off the bike due to it being huge for the bike. And I rode like a tense little bitch when my bike didn't break, so unlucky.

I agree with you. Any other rider did that, they’d immediately see a penalty. I didn’t get how he could cut half the track and go into the mechanics area then re enter, should’ve been DQ’d for it

I love it! Keeps them on their toes. Run all the goodies and possibly get your "Factory " bike snapped up by a true amateur.

I'm so over the Deegan pseudo metal era. If it's a cheater bike, it should go to the wheelie boys so maybe they can fuck themselves up.

I could be wrong but it wouldn't have mattered because he lost the lap by not passing the transponder line at the finish line. Whether he finished the race or not that first lap wouldn't have been counted.

Was it one of the big teams/riders that made the claim, or a rich mini dad looking to make a name?

Rich? That's the best way to save money and put yourself / your kid on the best equipment.

The Claiming rule is good. Calms everyone down from making a 40k bike
Factory rides all through amateurs is the reason so many of these kids go pro and never produce. Of course you’ll dominate amateur ranks when you’ve been on a team since you were 6 years old.
shit changes fast when everyone is on the same program and equipment.

All the claims I can recall became collectors' items, not race bikes

The way I understand it is the 7 big teams have an understanding where if a claim is filed they all do a claim so then there is a 1 in 8 chance of winning. Odds are you would loose that $$$$$ and go home empty handed.

Star got caught cheating with Cooper Webb at a pretty big amateur national at Mill Creek. Savatgy protested him and it was deemed cheating.

That was the old way back when Tripe's bike was claimed. They don't do that anymore. It was a way to protect the old school R&D works bikes. Plus, that's not how the amateur rules read.
