The past two years the amount of bike theft in Mass is crazy. I won’t post my bike on marketplace because dozens of people do and then get their bike taken a day later. The thieves only have to search your name and town off your Facebook on google and it gives you a home address.

I used to live in Boston and work in Reading. The whole New England area has such a bad opiate problem. It makes good people do very bad things to get money. It’s super sad seeing stuff like this.

I’m over the narrative that these people are all good people who fall prey to opiates. As someone who grew up with a pill head mom, I witnessed firsthand multiple choices she had to stop and chose not to do. Victimizing addicts doesn’t help them stop being addicts. It’s why they are addicts in the first place.

If you can do drugs and steal you probably weren’t a good person at all before this. You were most likely a borderline suck ass and the drugs just tore down any decency you had left.

Also, fuck thieves.

I also personally knew and worked with a lot of great people who were killed by opiates. But sure, go off.

Thieves suck. Also re the downvote button I could see downvoting Pete the Fisherman's original post, not a downvote of him, but a downvote of the story, as again thieves suck.

I've seen too many people steal from friends, feel bad for it, then do it again, all to get drugs.
Drug addiction is not as simple as will power and doing the right thing.
It's a compulsion, it's a mental disorder, and it sucks.
People very close to me are fighting this crap.
And the war on drugs? Give me a break. What's being done is pathetic.

Regardless, addicts, like everyone else, need to take responsibility for their actions.
Wrong is wrong.

So they back their rented uhaul van into the store front window. I would think that van sustained some damage. It looks like the upper part of the van hit the wall above the doors, so it should have susustained some damage. Maybe check the local uhaul places for where vans were returned with damage to the rear end.

It was stolen from another town.

They stole the Uhaul van that they used to commit the crime so that won't work. Probably will just dump the van somewhere. Then the problem is if they ever catch someone with one of these bikes they can only charge them with possession of stolen merchandise since they are highly unlikely to prove they were the ones who stole it.

I’m sure none of those will end up being ridden on the streets of some city. 🤫

Exactly. Be used to teach proper riding technique and bike maintenance.

I have a friend that's a local AA Enduro racer that had his bikes stolen a couple of days after he posted a 'win' on Facebook. Luckily he had Apple Airtags in his bike and was able to recover both of them with the help of the cops within 24 hours.

The dealership I worked at years ago almost got hit with the stolen u-haul attempt.

Two dudes stole a crown vic, and then the Uhaul, neutral dropped the crown vic into reverse right into the side of the shop. Hit a fat ass steal beam so they didn’t gain access, alarms went off and they bolted.

Had they hit 3 more feet to either side they would’ve got in no problem and packed that U-Haul to the brim with bikes.

As long as thieves know they won't get prosecuted in California and more than a few other states...this kind of crap will go on without any let up. People, as a general rule...will continue to do what they know they can get away with.

I don’t drink. I don’t have a problem with it at all. I just find it a time waste and soul stealer. Same for pills. I smoke weed and that’s it.

I also don’t suffer people who make excuses for something people can just say no to doing. Life is about choices.

Friends shop had a smash and grab a while as well as a break in at another door. They now park a truck in front of glass door and dirt bikes are chained to the floor. Nothings perfect but it will at least slow down these punks. Hopefully. Then another time someone cut the chain link fence and stole the catalytic converter off one of the pickup trucks. Thieves are relentless.

They make great targets.

But guns R bad.

Just read someone on a dirt bike in NYC last night shot and killed someone. I’m sure that was a stolen bike from a shop or someone who worked a job to buy a bike. Thanks

I'm quite surprised every dealer near a metro area isn't taking simple precautions to prevent/mitigate these thefts. A simple concrete anchor under each bike with some thick cable would be far too burdensome for a Wheelie Boyz quick escape. Or simpler yet, just tie them all together.
