One of my early childhood memories is riding around in my Dads shitty work van in the 90’s. A pack of 1.5”s in the cup holder and Alice In Chains on the radio. At the time I didn’t know much about either one. Now I’m an expert on both.

I’m digging it. I went to ride yesterday and was instantly comfortable, did one role lap and went straight into a moto. Just need to stiffen up the forks and fix the clutch lever from hitting my finger before disengaging.

EVH is the irrefutable GOAT.
It is subjective , saw him live too and disagree.

Judging: it is what we do on a forum.
Plus it’s a genuine question. He held off a late charge from Tomac at Thunder Valley a few races ago, and re-passed Dungey at Hi Point.. Yes, he has a reputation of mid-season fades, but this is one race so let’s not hit the panic button. Southwick next week will be the test.
I agree, southwick is where we see results.

You guys ever wonder if Kenny might be better not trying to explode at the start of race and sorta manage the entire distance a little more.

I know obviously he is trying to manage it, but he's so explosive at the start there must be some sort of anaerobic/fitness penalty and he's always walking a tightrope between that and exhaustion it seems.

I think you are 100% correct but he can't help himself. You need to plan your race to be able to finish strong, not just hope for that.

Eli was probably saying, "Geez dude!" at the beginning of the 2nd moto.

I have always thought this too, surely it’s better to pace yourself. He knows himself and his fitness better than anyone, but surely his competition think “that’s cool Kenny go for it, I’ll see you at the 20 min mark”

I think it's more like he knows he can't be the fastest for an entire moto anymore, especially in the heat, and as good as he's always been in the first few laps of the race, even pre injury, he tries to get up front as fast as he can just so he can at least start in the top positions, which is theoretically a better tactic than saving some energy early on but than having to fight much more later on in the race when he knows his chronic fatigue usually comes to play anyway and the gaps he'd have to make up between the riders in front of him are way bigger

It’s a bummer that this keeps happening, Roczen is good for the sport and a great rider I hope he can figure it out.

Hard to see his body ever allowing him to perform at the levels he’s capable of for extended amounts of time. Most people on earth can’t get to the level of fitness guys like Tomac and sexton are at. When you’ve had as much trouble as roczen has had I think this is what we should expect.

My take, FWIW. After the crash in 2017 Ken has had physical limitations, they were worsened in 2018's crash with Webb at SD and after coming through all that surgery and recovery he is physically not the same guy. And there's no doubt he is more fragile with his overall health. For him to be winning now, things have to be going REALLY well on all fronts. Body, bike, mind. I think we see him struggle with the bike (and it's not a new bike in 2022) because he knows it has to be perfect for him. When it's close, but there's one spot that giving him trouble, that becomes a point to dwell on and it does his head in. And once he's at that point, it's over. He is a confidence rider, they all are but Kenny maybe the most of all.

Again, no doubt he has physical issues that will forever limit him. But go back pre-2017, especially in the 250 years and many, many times when he does not win he talks about being "sick this week" or struggling with the bike. Those little mental demons have always been there, they are just exacerbated now because his body gives him no room for error.

The original post is still relevant. It really discounts how strong the competition is this year, even with his fading.
He is determined - like his post says but his body isn't with him; any guy that will puke in his helmet and carry on is no BS.
We complain when guys hide problems, we complain when they share. Maybe we should not complain anymore and just be thankful he's out there giving more than 99% of the riders on the track.

First my disclaimer: the fact that KR is even riding a motorcycle, let alone at this level, is an amazing testament to his drive, not just physically, but mentally. I’ve wanted to sell my bike after merely knocking the wind out of myself. What he went through is next level.

All that said, I think folks would cut KR more slack if he wasn’t the king of excuses prior to his big injury. He’s been blaming everything but himself most of his career when things don’t go well. Had that only started after the injury, I think most would Give him more leeway.

"sell my bike after getting the wind knocked out of me"

I snorted, cause I relate.

Yeah, KR is an amazing athlete and I appreciate that he's out there. That said, I think his days of championship contention are gone now. And I'll give him a standing O on the way out - absolutely no shame from me. Though I do wish he'd stop w/ the excuses. I wish he'd just say NOTHING as opposed to the mystery illness stuff or his grab bag of "reasons" for not doing as well as he thought he should.

Nobody is saying he's a bad rider. He's one of the greatest. ....this is about the fade he's a victim of the last several years. His out of the gate speed is unmatched.

At a certain point, This dude is completely telling the truth and being transparent as much as anybody can.

Some people take the truth as lies no matter if its the truth or not.
also they conflate the truth with excuses.... Imo how is telling the truth an excuses if its the reason an event is happening?

The man got super sick and still has to train during the week and try to recover then fly to races.... Us keyboard moto'rs and part-time racers have more time to recover after illness/injuries.

anyhow the dude is sitting 3rd in points.... The way the moto rope hangs; the dude should have a ton of slack. as hes earned it.
