What’s everyone’s opinion on the series points leader running the red plate? I kind of liked how you had to be following the series to know who the series leader is/was. Most of the people that don’t even follow the series most likely won’t even know the meaning behind the red plate. I was just looking at old photos from the 90s and remembered when they didn’t run the red plate and kind of miss it.

I say yes to the red plate. I as a participant would strive for it and cherish running it.

A big yes to the red plate. They should think about adjusting the weight though, seems heavy these days.

Love the red plate although they just don’t look good on orange.

I’m okay with the red plate. I wish the numbers determined by previous years points was back. This permanent number deal is for NASCAR

Well, we don’t have to worry about that scenario. Lol. I’m just kidding.

I like the red plate for the points leader and I like that at least the AMA and MX Sports say that you have to run the number 1 plate if you won the championship. I personally would rather go back to running the number you earned every year. When I raced I wanted that number 1 plate and if I had the talent to win it there would have not been enough money in the world to keep it off my bike as long as I had that title.

IIRC blue with gold letters was the grand national champ. SX + MX.
Like this 1. I think a yellow background is sharper. You can see it better for sure.

Love it
Why do you love it mr Buehler
Corny but I just think it looks badass. There's a bragging rights aspect to it too. I just remember 2007 with RC having it but it wasn't even for the points leader then. I just thought it looked cool

+1 for Red Plate. Much like the yellow jersey in TdF. Something to strive for.

I didn’t like it in 07-08 when it was the defending champ running it all series. Points leader only.

I dont care what color they make the plates, just make them big enough to fit readable numbers.

Yes to the red plate...although I think it looks better on some bikes than others.

It looked great on the Redbud Hondas with the white side panels.

Red side panels and front plate not so much IMO.

Since Hunter will have the red plate this week, why did his number font change? I liked the one he started with. Kinda different.

For RedBud, HRC Honda did a throwback theme to celebrate the 4th of July.

He'll have his normal font back this weekend.

You’re out of your mind. Barcias Gas Gas with the red plate and black rims was the sickest bike ever

New rule for the Red plate. Webb will head to A1 without it.

From Racerhead today.

Webb will be #1, but he won't be wearing the red plate backgrounds that defending champions have customarily worn at round one. Instead, the new AMA rule is that no red plates will be worn until there is an actual points leader, which means we will be seeing red at round two.

^That makes sense. It was redundant with the #1 anyway.

I never understood the red plate at round one. The red plate was created in order to highlight the series points leader not the defending champion.

At round one, everyone is equal until the checked flag flies, so introducing it at round two makes sense.

Jett will have the purple plates with yellow number as the defending SMX champion.
