Back in the 90s GM was attempting to develop a car powersource generation system that provided some sort alternative home power source. Straight from the lips of a GM protoype models mechanic. Still not here....

I love my 125, but damn a bike like the Stark is going to be so much nicer to ride. No vibration, no fanning the clutch or shifting gears, perfect power delivery, consistent handling etc..

That's what riding a 125 is all about. That's what makes it fun. Electric bikes will be easy to ride for sure and take less skill. The challenge of riding a 2 stroke or 4 Stroke is part of the fun. The roar of the engine and vibration is what makes riding a dirt bike fun. Take all that out and you will lose the heart of riding a dirt bike.

I think for me the benefits outweigh the losses.
80% of the riders I see on the track would have much more fun if they had a bike that‘s easier to ride without clutching and shifting. They could focus on their riding, body position and hitting their lines instead of getting some power from the engine to the rear wheel. Just like most people benefited when they switched from 2T to 4T.
If you ride any 4 stroke and say you need an easier bike to ride, it’s probably time for a new sport.

If you can’t figure out how to work on proper technique, line choice, body positioning and shifting/using the clutch, you’re not practicing properly.

And ya that’s exactly what we need, bikes easier to ride…. We already have guys getting hurt trying stuff they shouldn’t be because the bikes allow for it, so we just make them even easier to ride for those guys…. Ya, this will end well.

As far as less maintenance goes, I don’t know about you guys, but the maintenance that makes it hard for people to afford riding is still there. It’s not oil changes and filters… it’s suspension services, tires, chains and sprockets.

These devices don’t lose power throughout the consumption of this liquid either. Consistent the whole tank…amazing technology

No shifting, no clutch is a perk to you? Some of us actually ride to challenge ourselves and enjoy fanning a clutch, gear selection, and the metal and physical challenge such things require. Would you also choose a scooter over a skateboard? Without a clutch and the gyrating effect of the motor it’s going to become much more sensitive to “corrections” in the air, which is discussed in some of the reviews of the stark.

And the noise aspect will have absolutely zero impact on anything, you still will only be allowed to ride them where ICE bikes are allowed. You will not see new tracks opening, no new trails or trailheads closer to town. You will not be allowed on mtb trails. If anything it’s going to create MORE user conflicts between user groups as we’re already seeing with electric assist mtb’s(which aren’t allowed on most mtb trails). In my life time I’ve yet to experience a track closed down because of noise. Zoning, dust control and infrastructure wear is what does it. The whole E-mx bike will change the sport is just a pipe dream, you’re still going to be riding a dirt bike and have the same social label you’ve always had.

If noise isn't a problem, why do bikes come with mufflers? How are Pro Circuit and FMF still in business? And if shifting is what makes riding a bike great, why don't we all ride 125s? Every dude I know that rides a 450 says the best thing about it is that they put it in third and never have to shift it. I have a 250F and yes, I shift and use the clutch often and with expert precision, but I'll be damned if that's got anything to do with what wins a race. Corner speed wins a race. And since when do chains, sprockets, and tires, cost less than a top-end rebuild?

Reading some of these posts reminds me of that time I tried mushrooms.

Wow man. "If shifting is so great". Just wow.

Reading some of these posts reminds me why REAL Jet Skis died. Yeah...we're talking about the ones you STOOD on...not the fat ass sit down ones everyone rides today.

REAL Jet Skis took SKILL.

To each his own. I like to ride fast, rail berms and jump, the easier the better.

In Europe the noise and the contamination with oil and gas is the big deal. A lot of tracks will stay open and old tracks reopen with electric bikes.

And to get back to topic: If you can charge it fast independently with your own car, you wouldn’t need new infrastructure at the track.

You could do a weekend long off road trip with this truck, a Stark and a trailer in the back and ride in place where it wasn’t possible before.

As a supermoto rider, we run 2 generators, one for the bikes, and one for the camper and other stuff.. you can run 2 sets of warmers off a 2kva genny , but as soon as you plug other stuff in, it drops off.
At races we share with each other , if we can, putting fuel in the quietist one .

Lmao yeah if the trip is 10 minutes from home maybe.

Most of the tracks I go to are 200 miles each way. The lightning doesn’t have the range for that unloaded, let alone loaded, hit traffic, try to charge your freaking bike off the truck while at the track etc.

The range is still an issue on the trucks let alone to use it for extracurricular activities while at the track.

Yeah use it for ac or heat while you’re camping and see if you have any juice left to get home lmaooooo

Bring a generator or plug your lightning into the rv hookups to charge your truck and plug your dirtbike into the truck to charge your dirtbike, and plug your phone into the dirtbike to charge your phone. This shits idiotic.

Go ride an E beach cruiser where, exactly? I live in the woods, the ocean is almost an hour away. Whereas the nearest motocross track is only a few seconds away. But no, I get it, you think I'm a total city-boy wuss with tight-fitting pants and manicured fingernails who has no idea what an internal combustion engine bike has to offer. To that end, let me try to assuage you. I've owned, ridden, raced, and restored, well over 70 ICE race bikes in my life. I own 9 at present and they range from vintage to modern-day. My favorite bike to ride is my 1985 CR125R Mugen factory works bike. That bike is so fun and so fast and so trick, I sometimes wonder if I should charge myself admission just to ride it. There, happy?

None of that changes my opinion about electric bikes. They're coming, they ARE the future, and they'll either steamroll you or they'll liberate you. Your choice.

I don’t give a shit, the moment E bikes takeover Im out. I’ll find some other sport because dirt bikes have and always will be about the sound, smell, and feel of revving out a bike to clear a jump impressing the local track slut who had too many Xanax and Jack n cokes.

Electric bikes remind me of a kid on a scooter with a street bike helmet and flag. May as well have one of those squeeze horns on it. “Did you see me rip that turn and pin it to clear that table? Dude I was wrapped out going zzzzxxinnnnggggg” probably 80 mph but I don’t know, it doesn’t have gears to shift

Using diesel generators to charge the batteries for your electric car or motorcycle.

I doesn't make any f*cking sense to me.

Here is an review of the ability of the USA to generate power and the various methods of generation that are used. If you look at this also go to the uses of electric power since 1950 and the current retail uses of power.

https://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/electricity/electricity-in-the-us-g…

This is a pretty good overview of electricity use in the use and doesn't seem to have a political position in the mix. Lots of information here, some germane to the topic of this thread but mostly just where power is being used and where it is being generated. Ebikes would not appear to be even a small blip on the grid but Ecars are a growing use.

Are we talking about green energy here or about electric dirt bikes and how you get them charged at the track or in the hills??

Electric dirt bikes aren’t supposed to save the planet, but to provide a better bike, the possibility to ride in places where noise is a problem and open up motocross to people with zero technical knowledge of ICEs (most fathers and kids these days).
Their only problem: fast and independent recharging. Any ideas in that direction?

All of you criticizing electric bike charging when its not being green or with generators are idiots. This is not an attempt to be green nor is it a political issue so stop with that bs.

You old heads can still practice once or twice a week after driving an hour. I will ride everyday after work close by and ill wax you when i show up to race on my dumb electric bike.

Electric bikes will not kill the sport. Loud bikes kill tracks.. Electric bikes make the sport more accessible than its ever been.

There exist alternatives to gas generators for applications such as this.

I’ll be using one of these, an extra smart battery and 1000W or so of solar panels to charge my VARG away from home. I’m already using one to run my travel trailer for off-grid boondocking. It even runs our 13,500 BTU AC unit.

As a bonus, they can also be used as a home backup power system during outages. When solar isn’t sufficient, it can be charged with a gas (or propane/dual fuel) generator.

sure it does if the performance is way better than a gas bike or car

you fail to understand the emx bike movement isn't really meant to be environmental as its more performance based in my eyes

when racing the stop watch doesn't care about being greener than the other bikes

edit: couple posts above beat me to it!

But construction sites aren't noisy? Street bikes aren't noisy (I'm not saying its a bad thing, just making a point)? Fucking leaf blowers used by neighborhood landscapers aren't noisy?

If we fix the noise issue, the douchebags will come after dust. If we fix noise and dust, they will come after the water use. If we fix the noise, dust, and use reclaimed water non-potable, they will find something else to come after us for - like soil erosion, or destroying plant matter, or some protected beetle. The issue isn't necessarily in what noise, dust, or water problem exists. Its that there is a certain percentage of people that don't want us doing what we love to do. And quite frankly, I hate those people. And I realize hate is a strong word. Sometimes its an accurate word to use. Just being straight up.

Objectively speaking the noise is a credible issue that affects these people sitting in there backyard and their home value. The tracks stay moist and I don’t see much dust. There may certainly be people that have an axe to grind with dirt bikes but the vast majority of people really only care about how it affects them.

In one of the latest gypsy tales he said that they are working on a stand that could fully charge your bike in an hour or so. Battery life and all that is still somewhat vague on the varg, but if you can get two full track day with a fully charge bike + stand, that would solve the problem for many people I guess.

I was talking about the Ford F-150 Hybrid 3.5 L “PowerBoost” pick-up. The range on it is over 500 miles and it’s got 7.2 KW available via the hybrid system/battery pack.

Nowadays, a hybrid saves $. My wife has a hybrid AWD SUV that’s averaged 43mpg over it’s lifetime. That’s a helluva lot of money saved when gas is over $6/gallon.

I have no dog in this fight: I was just throwing some Pick Up Truck options out there.

"Electric bikes will not kill the sport. Loud bikes kill tracks.. Electric bikes make the sport more accessible than its ever been."

Ah.... self delusion. It's a wonderful thing.

On the mountain bike side we have miles and miles of awesome volunteer trails that have sprouted up and are allowed to exist because no one that doesn’t ride knows they are there

Uhhh, since person after person from country after country has posted something about their local track(s) being shut down due to noise complaints, I think we're a past the "self-delusion" stage at this point. I think it's more of a "mass delusion" now. For what it's worth.

And one more thing: you cannot possibly think Magoo would've turned down the opportunity to thrash an electric motocross bike, right? I mean, we're talking Magoo, here. 80HP there at his wrist - he would've LOVED it.
