How are those big yellow track markers still a thing? The one that Anderson hit was completely unnecessary. Too bad there isn’t a riders union to voice against those stupid things. How many riders do they have to take out before they do something about them?

Yep, might as well go back to snow fence lining the track…no idea what those are made of but look like a piece of yellow plywood 😂

Maybe Anderson shouldn't hit the big yellow track marker. People complain of riders cutting inside of the little yellow markers looking for a smooth line. Bigger track marker will keep riders inside the track. The big yellow track marker looked flimsy to me. If it was of any substance it would've ripped Anderson off his bike.

I'm cool with it.

I think Jason was day-dreaming about football practice...

And he thought he had to "Hit the SLED"! Grinning

Look, if he's gonna hang it out like that?
Well, he's gonna have to reel it in from time to time.
Shit happens.
And El Hombré ain't scared.
Woohoo

Agree. The barrier did its job , and Anderson was not injured.

So the barriers job is to rip out from the ground and almost take out the rider behind?

Everyone calls them “Sponge Bobs”.
Hollow plastic. Very light. Better than hitting a hay bail. They work.

If it didn't rip out of the ground Anderson would have a broken hand.
It's simple, stay inside the track and don't hit the track markers.

You can litigate this to where we don't have racing because it isn't safe. Or, you can race inside the track markers. It's simple really.

It’s better than stopping the bike dead and injuring that rider

He couldve hit his brakes to avoid it. He knows what they are and im sure knew before hitting it what it would feel like. Thats why he hit it lol

That type of track marker is what caused Jessy Nelson's crash and spinal cord injury. I'm not sure if I'd say they "work".

Get out your pencil and design something that will work better.......

at one time it was steel or wooden posts, sometimes with tires. sometimes not.

Then it evolved to haybales. which were softer to hit. but would end up getting pulled out into the track lane and/or busted in the track which would make a slick spot. also the covers or strings would get snagged and end up in the brake or sprockets and result in a dnf.

I always liked dirt piles, squared off with a skid steer or dozer on the track side. People would complain about those if their rider hit them too.

There has to be some deterrent for hitting this stuff. they are marking the boundries of the track.

Riders like anderson are always pushing those edges.

Watch him in the footage from thunder valley and you can see him running 5 foot off the edge of the rollers on the water truck lane. Yes. some of the yellow stake markers had gotten knocked down. but if you suddenly find yourself on a smooth line next to the track. you might not be on the track anymore.

anderson will use it anyway.

Roczen and tomac never did,

But you go one and come up with something that won't make a rider crash if they hit it with a bar end. but the riders will respect enough to not knock down or disregard, but will not cause them to crash if they hit it going 30 or 40 mph.

Maybe in a couple years we can have electronic sensors and individual shock collars that can give increasing shocks the further a rider gets off the track. but until then those soft foam rectangles are not bad.

I think these are as good as anything… I just think they had this one too close to the track. It should be far enough outside the track markers that a bike could be running right next to them, slightly leaned, and still not catch it with his bars. That wasn’t the case here.

They should plant daffodils around the track to mark out the course, look pretty too 😂

I raced on a track somewhere in Arkansas back in my racing days in the 70’s. Track didn’t have many markers and I’d never been on that track. I turned right in practice where I should have turned left. I just stopped like where is the f…..king track. Guy running the show ran up to me screaming don’t you know where the track is. I was like, no I don’t. He said you turned where we used to turn.

I think it was the same track where you dropped off into strip mine where they mined lignite coal. Straight down, a dog leg and a corner and a hill climb up out of the pit.

Craziest track I’d ever been on if you could call it a track.

Are you suggesting a professional rider has the talent to ride away from the edge on a 15-20 ft wide track?
You're right, crazy theroy.

Remember when we used to have boats and trucks to crash into? I’m sure RC does 🤣

They all avoided the mud by riding the edge. 100% his fault. Stay on the track! Get a clue!

Has it been mentioned they put the track marker there on lap 4 of the race?!?!?!?!?!?!? Ridiculous if true. That's what they're talking about on Anderson's instagram.

It’s not like it was in a blind spot. He was able to see it as soon as he came out of the corner 100+ feet earlier.

EDIT: See post below. The marker was placed too close to the already developed rut late into the race. So maybe if he did see it, the rut he was taking all race was fine up until that point so he probably thought it would still be fine.

Not true. Marker was not there in Moto 1, and was there starting lap 1 in moto 2. Just checked.

Seriously? Stay on the track. When markers "jump" in front of riders? Then complain and find something better...

Okay, I checked the replay of moto 1 to figure out when they moved the marker. The first lap it was set up in front of the banners.

Then with about 12 minutes left of the moto, you can see the track workers putting it into the new position as Ken and Jason go by:

The next lap it's in its new position for the leaders, which is also the lap that Jason hits it:

The rut was already formed on that edge of the track (inside the Acerbis markers) so I think it was put into the ground way too close to the already developed line and actually was not a smart or safe move by the track workers.

Verdict: The large yellow marker was placed too closely to a developed rut 20 minutes into the race. Track crew is guilty!

What in the hell are they doing.. two weeks in a row they have been trying to injure riders... First they almost kill two riders at hangtown, now they are putting staked in plastic boundaries at the exit of one of the highest speed turns of the track with a blind approach... Has dc weighed in on this yet? IMHO this is inexcusable especially after hangtown

Why in the hell did they move it? What was wrong with where it was? This kind of stuff baffles the hell out of me.

They wanted to put a road block on the cheater line but it's not the thing to do in the middle of a race.
