I just picked up our new 22 MC125 yesterday from Bills Motorcycles in Salem, Or. Awesome shop btw No mark ups whatsoever MSRP period! They put a new CDI box in from KTM. The fix is called something along the lines of "the crank update". But it's just a CDI box being changed. We are taking it to NorCal in the morning to break it in and see how it runs(I'll probably bring the YZ just incase). It sounds like 32:1 is the mixture. I've been running 40:1 Super M 92 non eth in our YZ's and haven't had any problems. It looks like I'm going to go 32:1 after reading this thread. on this one. Do you guys have any recommendations on fork pressure for a 120lb junior rider on this?
The kid is stoked!!!!

I would start with 108 psi in the forks. Set rear shock sag at 105mm, however you will not be able to get close to the 35mm static sag with the stock 39nm spring, he will need a 36 nm spring.
Where is the place to buy WP shock springs? I can't seem to find any. I need one for the 125 and a 48nm for the 450.

Where are you getting the parts? Are you replacing the entire crank assembly or rebuilding the 22 crank? I can't find a bottom end rebuild kit for any 16-22 ktm 125... maybe I am looking in the wrong places...

I just checked and I have the recall. I also have the "lean bog" exactly as digger describes. Dont think the CDI is going to fix that and it is probably the crank. Complete BS a brand new bike needs a full rebuild to run correctly.

All of the dealerships down here have it back order till June 15th! I would look into a rod kit from woosner have not looked into Rod kits from Carrillo but they are owned by pankl ! And yes complete bulshit for people who just want to ride to have to rebuild the bike to get it to normal when it's brand new something different for racers

Can anyone confirm if it is an actual crank out of spec issue, or if it just needs rebuild?

I realized I was looking at the full shock micro fiche and not the break down.

Damn, This would explain a lot. I just spent 2 weekends, in Florida and Georgia trying to jet a 22' Husky 125. It simply would not respond to any of the jetting changes we made. I thought possibly it was fuel or spark plug related, but no matter what changes we made to it, it always ran pretty much the same. I also had access to a 20' Husky 125 and that bike would respond to jetting changes, just like I would expect it too, But his 22' race bike and 22' practice bike ran pretty much the same no matter what was done to them. Jetting wise, I had my hands on almost every tuning option in that carb. Regardless, the kid went out and won the XC3 class at the GA round of the GNCC's on a bike that I don't consider acceptable.
Digger - just curious. Are these bikes you had the issue with still going strong with no crank failures even with "the bog"?? Did they get the cdi recall and did it resolve the issue? I am at 13.2 hours, but i am now concerned "the bog" may be related to a tight crank and that I will be pushing a bike for 4 miles out of the woods loop or becoming a lawn dart off a double. Your guys sound way fater than me but i finally got back it the groove and have started beating on it in the faster stuff. Id rather rebuild now if i know an issue is coming. Id rather not rebuild if not needed. Maybe pulling the jug to check clearance and do a visual isnt a bad idea.

The bog off the bottom is jetting go read the ktm 125/150 jetting thread you'll find your answer on how to get rid of the bog there. Not cdi or crank related.

I appreciate the input. Read Diggers comments on page 2 of this thread. I have his/AJ's jetting from the jetting thread installed and have tried multiple combinations. It runs better than stock for sure, but digger, I, and others have the same bog that cannot be jetted out. I have tried a lot and digger has tried probably everything. Nothing fixes it. One poster earlier in this thread said a crank rebuild is what solved his exact same issue.

My '21 150sx bogged but I didn't bother with the stock mikuni. I put the short body pwk on mine with the jd jetting kit. Bogs no more did that around 4 hr now at 13.5 hrs been running great.

Not dissing the tmx had the one on my 06 yz144 dialed in never was a problem for 15 years. But like with my friends 06 cr125 and cr250 where never quite right. Put the pwk's on the cr's made all the difference on those. I put the pwk's on both my 21 150sx and 250sx they just run better with them.

Digger even tried the pwk, with correct jetting, no change, same issue. I am telling you its odd. I am probably going to juat keep trying to get a fix, at least until it seizes the crank, like others. 🤣🤣🤣

When you rebuild the crank look in to Crank WorkS in AZ they have there own rod kits or will use whatever kit you choose! They true it to .001 and pay extra for the weld and balance you won't be sorry lol!

Well this is spooking me a bit...Im getting close to dropping the coin on a new 125...I have a 2019 ktm 85 bigwheel done up as a super mini with the 105 kit..fmf big bore system , race tech suspension for my weight..etc etc..absolutely love that little bike.
Im really a Yamaha guy,...for a very long time too..but Im a bit underwhelmed by the 22 yz125...was planning on getting a ktm or gasgas...a big brother for my 105...but I see a fair bit of this questionable reliability issue stuff with the Austrian bikes.
A young rider at our track had a horrific crash last sunday on a very high speed table top jump..he rides a 21 gasgas 85 big wheel and he is a very good and very competent rider. I saw the crash and was first on scene..he broke his left elbow and had to have surgery...he got off very lightly in my opinion..worst crash I think I have ever seen...the bike slammed him..
Tough little legend...he was both pissed off and bewildered , he knew damn well he hadn't done anything wrong...he said the bike jumped out of 5th on the upface into a neutral and it was the second time its done that today he said..
It pissed me off seeing that...
I know that if we stuck to manufacturers maintenance schedules and examined all parts the way they say we should, then something like this could have been avoided...but who really has the budget to do that?
Some bikes seem to have these issues and others have a rep for being rock solid...I guess I'm gonna end up with a 22 yz 125 after all..

At this point I”m sure anything coming out of a dealer from KtM has the updated Cdi. I have 10-12hrs on my 22 125Sx, I did all the jetting changes as per the jetting thread. No bog, no issues, the bike rips… But I have stopped riding it until the new Cdi comes in….if it comes out down the road the cranks are bad, I am 100% confident KtM will take care of it. I see the list for the 125 EMX class, most of them bikes are KtM 125”s, they must know what the hell is going on with these cranks by now….any body in Euroland want to chime in?

I talked to a very knowledgeable and reputable local KTM shop yesterday. They sell and service a lot of ktms. According to him, the issue is with the metallurgy of the new crank supplier. Inferior metal. However, he stated he has only seen a few failures and personally would ride one until it had an issue stating "your crank may last 300 hours". He wouldnt be that concerned. The lower rpm is to help save the crank. He also recommened a completwly different jetting solution that i am going to compare to the AJ/Digger setup. I still feel there is an issue though. Even with proper jetting my bike is slow to build revs off bottom. In comparison my sons 2019 85sx, with proper jetting now, while wheelie off as soon as you whack it open. Not even close to that on the 125 so far... it rips on top though!!

I would almost have an issue with them stating your crank May last 300 hours I've never seen any crank last that long unless it's just being putting around in the pit

There is a guy who posts here that had a KTM 4 stroke go over 700hrs with no issue.

I got a KTM 500 that just ticked over 300hrs, no issues.

I’m an A level off roader so while I’m no Tomac I’m certainly not the slowest guy at the track.

No offense but we're talking about small bore 2 Strokes that should and will be revved to the Moon!

I got a KTM 500 that just ticked over 300hrs, no issues.

I’m an A level off roader so while I’m no Tomac I’m certainly not the slowest guy at the track.

A buddy of mine bought his kid a 22 YZ125, only to discover there have been shifting issues with them. He pulled the cover off and found the tension spring that holds the roller against the shift star was not even connected. After connecting it, the shifting improved, but was still terrible. Evidently poor shift quality is a known 22 YZ125 issue.

He's not a patient man, so went out and bought a 22 MC125. Hopefully he doesn't have crank issues with it.

Pretty sure the cranks have been pressed together too tight of tolerance from factory, causing the big end bearing to lock up.

Yes..I have heard this also, from a friend who works at a Yamaha dealership..bought his son one and had this exact same issue..he told me there is actually a warranty recall in effect...

That's what I've been hearing but KTM Will not admit it! Also will not give out 2021 Rpm's compared to 2022 or crank info!
