Stupid question did they even make the mx12 in 2017?
By the date code it was, but it may not have been released yet in 17. It takes a bit for them to get here from whatever Dunlop plant that made it and they have to stock their suppliers before they start selling it.

Just run it man.

I’d never think of buying a hoop from eBay. What’s wrong with your local dealer?

I was a local Dealer. We checked the dates on everything we received. If it was beyond 2 years we sent them back and asked for a replacement. We had a guy come in wanting to know if we would swap him out for a four year old tire he received from a mail order purchase, for a newer one in our inventory.... "Just sell this one to someone who doesn't care." he told me. We didn't swap him out...
Guy buys his tire somewhere else, then brings it in and wants you to swap it out for a fresh one from YOUR inventory?
What a tool!!!

MXTire is a reputable dealer and Jeff works with Dunlop. If you have any questions or concerns, pick up the phone and call him. (814) 317-6686.

The part where it said "Fits Bultaco" should have been a red flag.

A good portion of Bultaco's had 4.00x18 rear tires. Can't recall any coming stock with a 19in rear wheel.

I just purposely bought a NOS streetbike tire for my 1975 CB750 because it is certifiably old school, and matches my front tire. I plan to ride it bald.....not dragging knees or anything, but it will get ridden bald. The date code indicates it was made some year in the 1900's , ending in "8" lol. maybe 1998. maybe 1988....hell, could be 1978.

most likely 98

If that tire was a week old and you ran it anywhere but sand it would chunk as well. I wouldn’t worry about the age if you use it where it is made to be used.

For those asking, I've bought tires from this seller (MXTire on the shipping label) on Ebay many times. For those who don't know who MXTire is, it's owned by Jeff Cernic. They seem to have some good deals and were really good before Ebay started charging sales tax. Not only do they sell on Ebay, they sell on Amazon and also have a store front in PA.

As far as the date, If you feel uncomfortable running it then reach out to them. I bet they will make it right with you.
Maybe that's why they can charge less? Could be that they are selling older inventory that the manufacturer doesn't want to send to their tier 1 clients that charge top dollar? Happens in all industries.

Huh, maybe that's the issue I've had with dunlop tires since every single one we've ran throws knobs off faster than a stripper on the pole........

Take this for what it's worth, you can believe me or not, doesn't bother me.

We had an engineer for Pirelli/Metzeler in our company doing a presentation. He showed us the tires that Carlos Checa used to win the Miller Motorsport round of World Superbike. These tires had date codes of 5 and 7 years before the race they were used at. Then went on to tell us that they basically spent their life in the belly of a 747 flying to every race before they finally got used. I say if a set of tires can go through that many heat cycles where they go below zero and then to tropical places like Malaysia, I think a 7 year old dirt bike tire will be fine.
Ha! Yeah I was at a metzeler tire intro the weekend after that race and I was told the same thing. But I think it was the tires he set pole on, not the race winning tires. Super impressive nonetheless. I tell the same story anytime a dealer of mine gets a customer that is upset that the tires for their Grom are 3 years old lol.

So, you know a lot about MXtire do you? Please enlighten us some more. Why don't you just call Jeff Cernic and ask him if that is true, I'm sure he would gladly have that conversation with you. His number is in one of the above posts.

I have the same tire with date code 4417. It has about ten hours on it. Some sand, some harder pack including roots. No issues yet. 150sx

Maybe buy your tires from a retailer that moves a lot of product? Bought a Michelin Sand tire (dont know how popular they are) and the date was 3921. So late September. Thats pretty recent. Not even a year old.

I guarantee mxtire moves more tires than most in the country.

I'm glad you can guarantee it. Makes sense to why they would have a 5 year old tire still
