Many seem to credit the YZ with Eli's success this year.

Sure, being on the new team probably is helping some but except for a small crash last summer, he was on the way to winning the last three nationals in a row.

And if you remember his second moto at Pala (at the next to last race) he blew everyone away looking like Tomac 2015.

I think his 2022 success is the rider and not the bike. Ask DF.

He rode the Yamaha over the summer and signed with them for less money. My guess is he did laps on his bike and their bike and put a watch on it. He knew things would be different on it. It wasn’t a chance he took he knew.

My guess: It's not necessarily the bike (although it could be), but I think it's Yamaha itself. From my understanding, the team is giving him more freedom with the bike and setup. Therefore he is more comfortable because he is able to make the changes he wants to make. Plus a fresh start with a new team. Sounds like team/combination to me.

He looks as good as he ever has on a bike. Gilly went to kawasaki with him after geico right? When did he leave Kawi?

I hear you. I just think Eli would be winning this year even if he stayed on Kawi.

The way he ended last summer showed he still had the speed.

Eli has admitted before... if he isn't comfortable on a bike setup, he isn't going fast. When he is comfortable with the bike, he is on fire. Yamaha has let him do his own thing, where Kawasaki was a little more restrictive. And yeah, that cable clutch Cool

Watch him outdoors this year. Just so you know I’m a Kawasaki guy and hated that he was leaving. I was rooting for Anderson early on until he crashed out. Now I’m just admiring Tomac being one of the greats.

Tomac is one of the greats no doubt. Even if he doesn't win the SX title this year. His sheer number of wins is amazing.

He should be great at the nationals this year but he was great at the end of the season last summer too.

I'm just hoping we see some good, fast racing between he and ferrandis.
Both are strong as hell at the end of outdoor motos.

Unless someone really steps up their game, these two are going to run away with it.

I think Anderson will have the speed.
But I doubt he can go through the entire series without throwing away points at the worst possible times.

Eli riding great. Looks also comfortable on the “Blue Pig 🐖 “. He can sit in third or fourth for half the race, knowing he will catch the leaders last couple laps. His suspension is dialed to perfection. I believe he would be giving Dungey, Villopoto nightmares with his setup. 🥃🥃🥃

Of course, I could be wrong but I suspect the battle will be between Tomac, Anderson, and Sexton.

DF and AC will be in the mix but they won't win the title this summer.

I seriously like Sexton.
But he's just not championship material yet.
Will be surprised if he doesn't score a few first moto wins though.

He's like Jason.
Crazy fast, with style, but....

Mindset. Not limited to the team forcing him to use the setup they believe is best, it's the creativity to try different things. Happy Tomac is a very scary Tomac.

I agree. For a few years now, even when he won he didn’t look the same. And then in between he’d have motos where he was stuck in 6th the whole time. I thought 2020 was a hangover from SX and I thought last year was him heading towards retirement (after 2022). Now I feel like he might seriously put the hurting on some records.

Sexton will figure it out at some point and he will stop crashing.

Yes, and if I remember correctly I think it was Jason wiegant that pushed him in a interview before super cross. In the interview, weigant got Eli to say how much faster he was on his personal track. I think eli said about 2 seconds a lap faster!

Forget the cable clutch, imagine how fast he’d be with a kickstarter

So your last sentence is implying DF’s lackluster SX season is due to the bike? Okay…

It’s a mix of both. Eli appears to have found more comfort on a capable bike.

All the bikes are good these days. its a matter of putting the right parts on it, the right power and good suspension settings that a rider feels comfortable on 90% of the time.

His dad stated, that at Kawi, they would not go outside a certain range for setting up the bike, Chad reed and others have voiced that Kawi had it in their mind on how their bike needs to be set regardless of the rider . Factory Yamaha (not star) was notorious for this as well.

For Tomac, the suspension guy is someone he worked with back at Honda and Star seems to have more lee way or are willing to try more things (within reason) to set the bike.

Id wager, if Tomac went to HEP Suzuki, provided he had the same suspension guy, he would do just as well

I am implying that it is mostly the rider and not the bike. Hence the example of DF not doing well and Eli doing great on the same bike.

Sure, Eli could be a better rider on that bike because the new environment makes him happier. That is mental. But Anderson proves the Kawi can win races too.

What we really need is to take a big star and put him on a Suzuki!

Put Eli an an RMZ and the results will be the same!
“But it has a kickstart bro?!”

This place would implode!

Nothing wrong that observation, that's what bench racing's all about. But, at the very least, the bike's certainly not holding him back. A left-handed compliment to Yamaha is still a compliment.

If it all works out, it's going to be a big number 1 on the YZF450 for at least 12 months starting in May. (Ferrandis carrying the #1 plate outdoors and likely Tomac sporting the big number 1 in next year's SX series.

DF has been injured for most of this SX season. I don't think we have a true picture of his potential yet.

16-18 Kawasaki was better platform than the current one. Yes the new one has hydro clutch and start button, but the frame was much better on the old Kawi. Tomac never got the speed with the new model, what he was getting on 2018 model.

I also believe Dylan is a much, much better, outdoor racer than SX.
Seems SX restricts his talents.
Sumbitch hauls ass outdoors for the full two motos.

Kinda glad to see him get away for a bit to recharge his batteries.

If Kawi had Gilly still and a cable clutch we’d see similar results.
