It’s neither “in the bag” nor “not gonna happen.”

It’s possible.

He’s the man to beat currently. There’s no reason why he can’t get to 51 if he races best year.

Tomac always says he doesn’t care about records or stats, but you know he would love to beat James’ all time wins record..

Is it me or does it seem like every week that Eli wins now, a new topic is started on “will he get to 51 wins” or “is he worthy of being on Mount Rushmore”? All I know, time will tell, Tomorrow isn’t promised.

Things can change fast. Last year I would have said no. He just seemed a step behind Webb and Roczen and maybe even Cianciarulo and Sexton.

But this year he is the best racer in the field, and does it without crashing. Depending on Anderson and Webb missing races, Tomac might have 4+ wins left in him this season. That would put him in good shape to get to 51 in 2023 or 2024.

I think he'll be in a healthy second place by the time he's done.

He’s shaping to be the 2nd best all-time over both disciplines. Winning on 3 brands of bikes in the big class. I just wish he didn’t wreck at Thunder Valley on the CRF.

It's possible for him to pass MC's all time wins if he sticks around another 3 years, maybe 4. I believe the 7 championships record is safe for a while.

Coulda woulda shoulda, I honestly think that wreck cost him 2 mx titles. Kenny was only so good in 2016 because Eli wasn't healthy enough to challenge him.

I think if the 2023 Yamaha is a brand new bike, I don't see him going back to testing for just a year. I think he will retire after MXoN. Hope I'm wrong.

James is second all time . Eli would need 73 wins to break the record. I can see him passing James next season.

He has already taken the option for 2023

You don't switch to a different manufacturer if you don't plan on racing a couple more years. So yes, unless he gets hurt he's got it in the bag

That's a tall order. You're talking 30 more wins just to match MC. it would take the rest of the wins this year + 8 wins each season for the next 3 years just to match...

math is hard..

I think eli is down for a lot of testing as long as the team lets him do what he wants with the bike

He has won 5 out of 10 races so far this season and now has 42. There are 7 more races. If he wins 1/2 of the remaining races like he did in the first 10, then he likely wins 3 or 4 more this season for a total of 8 or 9 in 2022 finishing the season with 45 or 46. That would put him past Chad (44) this season. If he races next year, he has a good shot at surpassing Carmichael (48). Surpassing Stewart (51) might be a stretch, but seems possible. He would have to win 6 or 7 races in 2023 to do it, assuming he continues winning in 2022 at the same rate like I previously mentioned. Possible.

Math is easy. That's why I said it's possible, not that it's probable.
If I got to 51 wins and 2nd on the all time wins list, I'd be looking at getting those 22 more.
The point I'm making is that 72 is not unattainable.
If Tomac rides the way he is now for the next 3 or 4 years he's going to get pretty close.

What is more untouchable…MC’s 72 SX wins or RC’s 102 MX wins? Both are crazy. Those guys were so damn amazing.

What if MC didn’t go to Suzuki in 97, he probably clears 80, right?

And if RC doesn’t miss 04, he’s probably mid 50s

RC probably. MC I don't know . He hated the aluminum frame cr . I guess if he went to Yamaha a year early maybe .

You're talking 22 more wins for somebody in his 30's. Even if he really wanted that record, I don't think he'd be able to catch McGrath.

It's a stretch for sure, but 72 no longer looks unattainable. If he keeps riding the way he is now that he's got the YZ dialed in, it's possible in 3 or 4 more years.
Improbable, but quite possible.

I thought the he may have been referring to combined wins in SX and Moto which Eli already has surpassed MC with 93 vs. 89

Is Eli at 93? I have him at 80. 38 motocross wins and 42 SXs. Remember regional SX wins don’t count in these totals..

Unless my MX number is off

You are correct if you don't count the regional stuff which has been the way of the world for many years.

I mean MC’s regionals aren’t counted in his 89. Been the way of the world since the regional series were introduced…
