He went off the track in the sand behind Malcolm, and then entered ahead of him.

I think Anderson and mookie will be docked a spot for accelerating off track.

I think Anderson gained a position going into the next corner. Wonder if he will get penalized for that?

I just watched it again and didn’t realize that he came back onto the track ahead. If he isn’t penalized they need a good explanation as to why not. Rules are rules.

Ya i watched it happen right in front of me havent watched replay on tv but he didnt just gas it off the track he went balls out and shot that gap between those banners most likely to try and get away from Malcom. Unfortunately for him Jason has had to ride so aggressive to stay within reach in this title fight while Eli seems in cruise control. Desperate times call for desperate measures and at that point it was worth the risk for Jason i guess.

It's also not the first time he's done that, so I would expect a penalty of some type. BUT... this is the AMA... so who knows lol

On the AMA SX lap chart it had Anderson in 8th ahead of Stewart in 9th at the finish. Yet everything I see so far says they were both penalized a spot and are 8th and 9th, with Stew in 8th. I thought they were listed 8th and 9th on the broadcast with no mention of a penalty.

They finished 7th and 8th in the main and each dropped a spot after the penalties to 8th and 9th.

Results from the main before penalties.

If Jason passed someone, shouldn't he have been docked 2 positions? The rulebook says, penalty is number of positions gained plus 1.

Also, what did Mookie get docked for? Did they just split the penalty between the two riders? #neverchange

Has anyone seen an explanation of why each got docked yet?

Haven't seen anything and the penalty report hasn't been released yet.

The problem is that you can create an explanation for both angles of each circumstance. You could say that Anderson blew the turn and crossed in front of Malcolm's line in the sand and that's why Malcolm hit him. To me, there are two things that cannot be explained away, first is that Ando gained advantage going off track and Ando has also been on six month probation starting at round four. You're supposed to lay low and not be involved in any drama, which he does not do. So, I don't have a problem with both riders being penalized, but I do have a problem with the penalties being equal.

Welcome to AMA racing, where the rules are made up and the book doesn't matter.

They can't even follow their own written down rules...

This is the best breakdown and explanation I've seen about 21 and 27 from last night.

One thing I don't like is that he's talking about pinching someone off as pushing them off the track, but that's pretty much how every single block pass works; you either shutoff, go down, or fly off the track. When someone has a half bike on you, that's how it goes, and it's totally fine. So, there's nothing for them to argue on that one, imo.

The other is Malcolm going off the track. What is considered an advantage? Is it measured in feet, or track position? If it's in feet, then Malcolm definitely deserves a penalty for going off track. If it's track position, then I'm not sure he gained anything. And that's also why I don't like the guy saying that Ando's off track is a grey area, because he gained a position.

All I know is I wish they could at least stay upright. It’s only hurting the racing when two of the top guys play grab ass and knock each other down instead of racing for podiums and wins.

I don't agree that it hurt the racing...I feel like it is all 'part' of racing.

Dirt bike racing has always been a contact sport at times. Otherwise, it would be like they all just go out there and ride practice laps.

Putting a bunch of racers on a closed track makes this so.

I’m not against contract in the slightest. Just think it would be nice to see two more fast guys up front battling for wins and podiums. When they knock each other down week after week it seems counterproductive and honestly I don’t see what it adds to the entertainment value.
