Well I'm not impressed with triple crowns. I know Weege, JT, Blair, and Matthes all think their the greatest thing to hit SX but I don't see it. So you have three races to decide a winner. got it. The final race of the night should be the climax of the night in my opinion. So lets look at last night. The 250 class we had the top 3 riders, coming into the race, Jett, Forkner, and Mcadoo tied in points coming into the 3rd race. The broadcast called it "sudden death" to see who wins between the 3. Which in reality is the best outcome you could hope for from the first 2 races of the night to have the top 3 riders tied in points. So I'm sure the above mentioned 4 were all humming to this amazing 3 rider "sudden death" race. Yawn... On a normal racing night on the main event starting gate are 22 riders. All tied in points for the night and it's a "sudden death" race but not just between 3 but 22 riders. WOW! You would think The above mentioned 4 would now be super excited with 22 riders tied going into the final race. Smile Just kidding. So to me a main event final race should be "sudden death" but include 22 not just 3.
On to the 450 class. This third race was basically between Tomac and Anderson, but Webb, Mookie, and Sexton were still in it. Shocker! The top 5 riders coming into tonight's race were the top 5 riders going into the 3rd race. The exception is that Tomac at worse had to finish 2nd if Anderson was leading. So we have Tomac just following Anderson all race. Yawn! We have the top 2 riders racing in the front But one rider doesn't need to win so we miss out on what might have been a dramatic finish.
So my point is I'd ratter see one main that's for all the marbles each Race day. You can have 10 races each night but the top 5 will most of the time be the top five so why add more carnage and get riders hurt(watch 250 class). I'd love if each race the winner has to battle all race but it rarely happens and Triple Crowns don't make the racing any more exciting. Just the opposite they make it more confusing for the casual fan and possibly injure more riders. And I know the above 4 live at the races and are bored with he current format. Sorry, but you are an exception. The average fan loves the standard show so why change what ain't broke.
Note: this is my opinion

I only watch the replays on Peacock on Sunday's.......I'll fast forward to the start of the first 250 heat race. Yesterday I thought, "wow, that's all of the top 250 guys in the first heat race"..........and then it dawned on me. EFFING TRIPLE CROWN. What a buzz kill and total disappointment. Motos are for outdoors, not SX.

I think every round should be 2 x 15 min races for 450's and 2 x 12 min races for 250, separate point scoring for each race.125 & 250 2-strokes allowed.

Kinda how I feel about triple crowns. GIve me the heats, LCQ, and one main. I don't care to watch three shortened races for both classes. Just my opinion. If I had to race them, I'd despise them.

Exactly.
We raced 3 20 minute motos.
While over in Europe they were racing 2 45's.

I'm a superfan and I couldn't disagree more with you

Keep Triple Crown races to three per season but increase points for them. If it is only 3 points for first, 2 for second and 1 point for 3rd at least it is acknowedging the extra effort. Last thing is add one main event for those who don't qualify for Triple Crown.

Other than screwing opportunities for privateers, I don’t see any negatives to the triple crowns.

Personally, I’d love to see SX modeled more with this format:

Qualifying-heat-semi-lcq-main

Hell, 2 mains just like outdoors.

The only improvement I can see that triple crowns really need is to overall the points like outdoors where each main contributes directly to points standing for the series.

Just my opinion as a fan.

I wanted to caveat what I said above with this:

If we are going to overhaul anything in supercross, can we maybe take a step back and go back to making the track resemble an indoor motocross track?

I get the logic behind not wanting to. Entertainment, unique design, way more dirt, floor space, etc.

Have massive sand rollers down the whole length, have a wide section that goes into the stands for elevation, have a banked whoop section like Millville.

I mean I can’t help but think it’s be way more of a great race to watch.

Edit - Example: 2016 monster cup
Yes PLEASE take a step back and go back to making the track resemble an indoor motocross track. After all that was the concept originally. Let's get SX back to it's roots instead of the FMX show SX has become. Ridiculous some tracks have the riders in the air more than half the time. That's not racing to me.

I like the triple crowns, but I think each race needs to be more unique

Race 1 - Elimination Race
Every lap the last 2 riders are eliminated until there are only 2 riders left

Race 2 - Sprint
Short race, I'm talking LCQ short

Race 3 - Reverse Order Start
The lowest score from races 1 and 2 gets the last gate pick, and this race will be the longest. If there is a tie, moto 3 is the tie breaker.

3 different formats to showcase 3 different skills. Race 1 will showcase good starters, consistency, and all out speed with no lappers in the way. Race 2 will showcase great starters and sprint speeds. Race 3 will showcase endurance

IF they paid Points to all 3 main events (like it should) the championship points would have gotten 3 points tighter not 3 points farther apart like it did.

Anderson
6-17 points
1-26 points
1-26 points
69 total points

Tomac
3-21 points
2-23 points
2-23 points
67 total points

Webb
1-26 points
4-19 points
4-19 points
64 total points

You like watching more commercials? Less race time = more commercials.

2x20, and no heats in the night show. Get that boring shit out of the way before the TV coverage starts. Start the night show with the 450 LCQ, then a support race, then 450 race 1. then the 250 race. Then 450 race 2. ~75 minutes of racing (up from ~65) and the top 450 guys will be on track for 40min instead of 26min.

If they paid points for all 3 main events, Eli wouldn't have just followed Anderson after letting him by without a fight, so there is no telling what the outcome would have been.

3x12 =36
20 (main) + 5 (LCQ) +2x6 (heats) =37

So how exactly are you suggesting they are on track more with the TC than the regular schedule?

Triple crowns are proving time and time again that they produce more passing and better racing than the traditional 1 main 20min format.

Increased number of gate drops and the pressure to move forward quickly is exciting.
Watching guys cruise around in minutes 15 thru 20 of a single main race is not.

My only wish is that triple crowns would be something like:
Race 1: 7 min
Race 2: 10 Min
Race 3: 12 min
rather than 3x 12 min

Why would you rather that format?

If it was up to me a triple crown would be a double crown. Two 20 min motos for 450s(only 4 more mins racing than current triple crown format) and two 15 min motos for 250. Pay points for each. Everyone says injuries, but that same argument could be made for outdoors and never is.

The worst part of triple crowns is the stupid math. I enjoy the fact that every race contributes to the overall but by the 3rd race I can't remember where everybody in the top 10 placed in the first 2 races. TV helps by reminding you but fans in the stadium have no clue, at least I didn't in Detroit a few years ago. I think it would be a better format to only count the last 2 races, make them both slightly longer, and make the first race a shorter heat race that determines gate pick for the last 2 races. As they are I don't mind them only being 3 rounds but I think the standard format is slightly better.

You're correct. We took sprint races that were determined at the start and made them shorter. Ass backwards logic and it's led to worse racing. The days of watching a classic ride through the field are long gone.

Agreed though I see triple crowns as circus-fication of it. Next we can have rings of fire to jump through. I didn’t know so many people liked this garbage. I can argue that once Tomac saw JA get 6th in the first race he knew he had the win and settled for 2nd in race 2 as well as race 3. There’s no points system that works and is fair. This stuff is fine for Monster Cup with your idiotic joker lane. It doesn’t belong in championship professional racing. It’s an exhibition stunt. Out of 6 races that ran, the actual 2 winners only won 1 single race between the two of them. Think about that.
Yeah, I know what you mean. There are some days when real men are riding their dirt bikes out of doors, and the winner of the event never wins any of the individual races. One time I saw Jeff Ward get second place two times in a row and then was declared the "winner"! Effing pussy.

I'm getting off your lawn now.

Triple crowns decent. They need to have more fun with it. Have a cool crown and robe the rider gets until the next triple crown race and it gets passed on to next winner or something. Maybe all the winners get name stitched on with race date like the Stanley cup?

The People have spoken!.....More Triple Crowns. What does need to happen though in AT LEAST the 3rd race along with rider position needs to be a current running "sum" of all three races to see where they are "actually" running for the race.

NOT ONE RACER WANTS TRIPLE CROWNS. Ask any of them. It's way too risky for 3 gate drops.

Really? Was Wardy trying or did he decide 2nd was good enough? He still had 3 points to go after in moto 2. It’s not a situation where he only gets 25 points for the win based off a 2-2 score. The point was there was no incentive for Eli to try for first in the 3rd race. Eli gets nothing more for risking trying for first in the 3rd race. It’s a poor attempt at a comparison you made. It would be much easier to just admit I’m right.

3x12 =36
20 (main) + 5 (LCQ) +2x6 (heats) =37

So how exactly are you suggesting they are on track more with the TC than the regular schedule?
So a potential 75 points can be gained in one night when a normal race night only offers 25. Sounds reasonable. As reasonable as the other guy with a 7 minute race.

I love triple crowns 6 races to watch instead of 2 in one night what is there not to love?! Im sure the racers treat every race for all of the "marbles" it just comes down consistency and who is in the best shape to bring it home.

Another vote for more triple crowns here, way more entertaining.

It could use a little tweaking, someone else mentioned maybe giving a few extra points to the top 3 in each race, like 3 for first, 2nd gets 2, then 1 for 3rd, so it incentivizes performing in each race but doesn't make for a crazy points swing like full points for each race.

I'm not in favor of full points for each race. I was just replying that IF points were paid for each race, Eli would have raced the third race very differently.
