I'm in this same boat today. It was a great time but also slightly miserable at the same time. My big question is what was so different this year compared to 17' 18' 19' ? 🤷‍♂️
I do remember in 18 and 19 my eyes burning pretty bad and a strong fuel smell. Indy and st Louis are the other 2 venues I’ve been to and Minneapolis was by far worse for fumes

There was definitely a haze in there. Would intermittently get pretty good blasts of race gas smell in second tier.

It takes a lot of time and considerable amount of make up air that would have to be brought in and tempered (heated) to replace vented air. Cold outside air conditions make this very expensive.

I doubt if most enclosed facilities like this have adequate make up air for a bunch of ICE's running most he day. Add in the excavation equipment that is running when bikes are not running and that's a lot of CO.

In the 2-stroke era, there was always that haze in the stadiums. The haze is still there, but you don’t see if because of the absence of premix. Only worse because the bikes are now double the displacement.

My eyes are scratchy as shit and bloodshot, 24 hours after the event. I was even using eye drops today, which I never do. I woke up with a sore throat. I have been going to Supercross races for 20 years, and been around plenty of race gas and also Arenacross and indoor riding facilities. I have never experienced this before at this level.

I feel bad for the athletes if they have to endure this every race.

Twice the displacement, but firing every other stroke, and no oil

My buddy and I realized something was weird when our eyes looked crazy bloodshot before the mains started.

This happened to me there in 2017 and I haven’t been back since. Chalked it up to long term fume exposure, but damn did my eyes burn and keep me up all night.

Crazy that this still happens at races in closed stadiums. This is not the first time it has been mentioned

We were sitting on the west end, top row right in the middle for the first half of the night show. Fumes were very strong. Moved down to sit with my daughter and friends just to the right of the starting gate for the mains. No smell at all. I thought that strange.....

My buddy and I (who has made a comment on here) we were sitting right behind the starting line in a suite. Just hit me, on the gate. Those 22 machines, 6 different races are held wfo..... right into our faces essentially some 50 yards away

Usually industry seating is right behind the gate and it’s miserable to sit there for that reason.

Does Feld also perform the same fireworks/pyrotechnics opening ceremonies inside domes as they do in open-air stadiums?

I had to stand up-wind at Washougal. Based on that, I wouldn't go to an indoor race.

Not that pump gas without catalysts would be great, but I don't understand the point of race gas when every single rider is running it. No advantage there.

Time to 86 the 4 strokes and bring back the 250 and 125 2 strokes. Enough is enough, I don't want my fellow riders having to go to the ER for just trying to enjoy a race. The madness needs to end.

they did shoot off a buttload of fireworks, in the middle of the day, inside a stadium. really stupid. opening ceremonies had zero thought put into it being a day program and was kinda funny trying to guess where the riders were without a spotlight.

i’ve been sick as a dog the past two nights, never had it this bad before and i was a regular at the old Motokazie indoor races where they’d shut down racing a couple times a day to vent the building.

This is entirely anecdotal but last time I attended this race was the first year of the new stadium (can’t remember how many years ago but dunge was racing still) . I felt all the physical symptoms described in this thread - I particularly remember the exhaust fumes being overwhelming

Wearing masks would have helped filter the air.

We have some indoor tracks but they only allowed to ride with clean fuel that is without extra stuff they are putting in fuel. I bet those race fuels have chemicals that give these problems more than just carbon monoxide alone.

Strange to hear honestly being that it isn't a new venue and felt the same as normal years as far as protocol, but my chick and her sister both were having burning eye issues during the day. I never noticed at all, but I've also done 100 arenacross races in my day that are 100x worse. I didn't leave the stadium and am glad i didn't/don't feel it, but do see how that's a big affect... from my AX days, if you go out and get fresh air it makes a huge difference.

As a "mechanic" for one of my buddies, I will say the security and on site event staff were constantly aggressive about not starting bikes in the tunnels and asking you to wait until you were inside the main stadium area.

I hope everyone is safe and ok, Co2 issues are scary.

I had bloodshot eyes after press day Friday
Got to the stadium at 530 Saturday and didn’t leave till 8.
My eyes to this moment are still red. Nose hasn’t cleared up and I’m feeling extremely sick along with many many others. There’s skid steers, dozers, semis and side by sides constantly running in there along with bikes. This was unlike anything I’ve ever felt at a race. 1000% carbon monoxide poisoning.
The stadium is generally colder because they open the windows however this year they did not. I also read about ventilation changes due to covid…
Thousands of people were affected by this.

I bet they're carcinogenic. :-(

I remember spectating at some Arenacross races in PA and CT in freezing cold weather. We alternated between freezing when ventilation turned on and suffocating when it was off. Left with pink faces and headaches. I can’t imagine how heat could keep up while changing the air that fast.
