To all the long time members or really anyone who's been around these parts for more than a year or so, what's your take on where the site was to what it is now? Content, features, forum, community, etc? I'm quite curious what everyone's thoughts are as the place has evolved, especially from those that have been here since near the beginning.
ML, I have nothing negative to say about your triumphant return and you being the main guy.

Imo, you’re back to giving us some of the best media content in the industry, you’re doing a killer job at managing the forum unbiased and your insight/commentary will never tire.

The way things are now and the content is what drew me here in the first place.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it another 134 times this: it’s great to have your touch back into the site and content, and I hope you’re as happy excelling at this as we are enjoying it.

You’re crushing it, dude. Keep on keeping on 🤘

ML, I have nothing much to offer in the way of criticism. I’m part of the younger cohort 33 and would really love to read pings articles again. I like video but I’m not a video only guy.

I’d also like to see the return of the “Gaming” section because a lot of gaming related stuff gets buried here in the main section.

Side note I spend alot of time here, my original name: Motodave, got clicked for arguing about Obama back in 09 lol. I think it got the permaban.

Anyway to pump your tires a bit, I think this place is growing and it feels more lively. See if you can pull some strings to get a live race broadcast (tab) from feld or monster.

Bring back the boobie vault.
I signed up with MotoDrive in 2004 and have been here all along- that's coming up on 18 years. Not sure how I feel about that- not really an accomplishment. I could have been doing something more intellectually challenging. Grinning It's all just entertainment.

Vital has been the first thing I go to when I open my internet browser, and has been since the Motodrive days. I don’t post very often anymore, and part of that is that I get logged out before I can hit enter most times. I don’t know the fix to it, but I’ve seen threads about it. The search function and PM system are the biggest negatives for me, but I can live life without them. The BV has been missed for many years and the anonymous downvotes should be changed.

Why are the thumbs downs anonymous? Both should be transparent. If not, take the votes away.

Saying that making it transparent would cause more problems is nonsense since a bunch of people who do downvote would not do it of they knew their username was tagged to it.

Decision was made between my two tenures here, so I wasn't involved. Mostly, it's similar to what Mav said earlier...by making downvotes public the worry is it would cause more division as people may go after those that downvote them.

This is just me personally speaking but when I get downvoted, I just shrug. If I get a pile of them, I'm aware I'm not on the majority side of the fence with my comment. Rarely has it bothered me in any meaningful way.

I'll be honest, it's quite shocking to me how many users care that they've been downvoted and how many email me about it.

I've had some regular users and even a couple industry folk email me so fired up about it, wanting to know who downvoted them, what their real name is etc...it kind of scares me to see how some would act if they could visually see that information.

I hope certain threads don’t mysteriously disappear because of outside influences.
Ex. Threads that have facts or opinions about rider x or product x.
I understand sometimes things get out of hand, but sometimes things are spot on.

The quality of Pit Bits alone keeps me coming back. I LOVE the detail, the hidden things each team is doing ect.

I had to start a new profile a few months ago because I got kicked off for jokingly suggesting racing in bikinis might raise the profile of womens mx in the USA. I showed my missus a standard tread on vital and she couldn’t believe some of the shit talk but couldn’t believe I got kicked off for my comment 🤷‍♂️.

My opinion on the up/down votes is that it has a hokey, unprofessional feel to it. Very juvenile. Like the way children would behave.

I think the problem with the thumbs up/down is lack of choices. Not everything is yes/no. I'd like to see 🖕, 💀🐎, 🤦‍♂️.

The likes/dislikes seems childish. They don’t need to be here but since they are, downvotes should not be anonymous it just encourages troll behavior.

I still visit here more than anywhere else on the net so you’re doing something right, just wish those functions would come out of the stone age.

Since you asked....

Leave it, but make dislikes visible to create a little accountability.

Looking forward to updates regarding PM's. I use an archery forum called archerytalk.com (if you feel like poking around) to buy and sell tons of stuff and the PM set up there is great. Very valuable tool, specifically when using the classifieds.

Totally dig the improvements in pitbits and the info on bikes.

That's a good reason to keep downvotes anonymous but you need to make thumbs up anonymous too because Vital is missing out on a ton of up votes from those who don't want to be identified when participating in controversial posts or opinions. If the thumbs up was anonymous you would see a lot more of them and a lot more positivity. But as it sits now the site is just promoting negativity.

Think about it, the thumbs up/down feature makes every post a poll. When have you ever seen a poll (or voting) that exposes participants on only one side of the poll? i.e. agree with us and we will show your name, disagree and we hide your name!?!? It makes zero F'ing sense. And if a thumbs up happens to count as a click/traffic for Vital, you are really missing out.

No one should care or know who is agreeing or disagreeing with them, and everyone should have the opportunity to vote their opinion anonymously if they want to participate. This is the only way to have a truly unbiased discussion that's not skewed to promote negativity like it is now.

Agreed. With literally everything you said. With that said, I still go to this website more than any other besides pornhub. 😂😂😂

I'm late to the party since this post is almost a day old, but since I've checked in at least daily for over a dozen years and get my chance- I really appreciate that we were all asked.
My 2-worthless cents and/or reinforcement of what has already been mentioned includes:

1) Yay!! it has already been mentioned that the search feature was in need of a fix and seems to be getting it. I'm no tech guru but it would be nice if the search results come back in order of age of original post date and/or last date it was commented on. OR- can some search result filters be added? (not sure this has been mentioned yet or not)

2) I agree with the poster that mentioned looking at Pink Bikes classified section for some ideas on grouping (and sub-grouping).

3) I'm not a big fan of the trend towards videos over articles... Once I see something is a video, I immediately lose interest in it (exceptions being-- show me video highlights of races or where video should apply like its been in the past)

4) As has been mentioned... I don't care for the TMZ-ing of VitalMX over social media-related posts and the over-reactions and over-hype that they cause. The complaints of how low the standards have become in posts (name calling, politics, COVID, etc) coupled with many comments about posters getting clicked for their comments- even rightfully so- are all starting to look contradictory when we have actual VitalMX posts stemming on social media of things like "What rider got their feelings hurt", "What rider stole the other rider's girlfriend", etc, etc...

I realize I'm showing my age (early 50's) and based on the kids (and many adults) today- that's how life is going to be moving forward, but from my old man goggles it just looks like a circus tent that had top notch performing acts thinking they need more clowns to fill the seats...

They go directly to the email inbox of the email address you signed up with (Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, etc.)

You can change your email address under your profile settings if you have a new email or don't remember the old one.

What about readers can reward other posters with stickers like they do on Reddit.

This is a high quality Forum. Overall usability is very good. Clean and simple layout.
There has been some solid updates over the years as well.
For example the automatic scrolling to where you've last been in a thread.

Private messaging needs improvement in my opinion too. Message inbox in this site would be very nice.
Also the search funtion is not great.

But overall still excellent.

Upvote/downvote is perfect as it is. Keep it in.

if someone is seriously asking the mods if they can find out who downvoted them, then they are the problem, not the function itself.

Keep up the good work mods.

I think this is a hard question because so much of what you enjoy about a board is your experience, especially early on.

This is a great board. I do think that it is less smart and clever in a fun way, so for me it was more enjoyable in the past, but that largely is because I was closer to more of the people who were the core of the board. I'm not sure there even is a core of the board anymore, and that may not be a bad thing. I also think it is impossible now with social media to replicate the wonderful early days of moto web boards.

I do miss the handful of evil geniuses in the early days; the troublemaking these days is low level sludge.
