What's up with the shoulder injury and continuing to race? Will the shoulder heal itself? What is his purpose from Kawasaki's point of view? This seems like something that could have negative affects. I am not at all familiar with an AC separation. Whats the deal?

Considering the injury he has been amazing though. Had he not faded in both mains he would have been probably P3-5 at least in both mains, i.e. 1st or 2nd in points now.

His shoulder will get better as long as he does not crash on it and make the injury worse. Should be way better in the next few weeks.

He has been getting better, depending on the track he could potentially get some ‘decent’ results. He is logging consistent laps ( which is what most media personal are saying he needs) He has still got a decent amount of points to keep him relevant, as others are all over the show results wise. He seemingly WANTS to be out there and has an incredibly positive attitude about it.

Why not?

If anything the mental edge knowing you can get a top 3 start every time and run with those guys for the first half of the race whilst injured is going to help him in the long run.

Usually once everything is back in it’s place, there’s gonna be a ton of pain but as long as it holds up you won’t make it worse. So why not go for it?

Things don’t go back in place with a grade 3 AC separation unless you have surgery, and even then, your bones are only held in place by surgical equipment. Most people elect not to have the surgery with a grade 3 and just strengthen the shoulder to keep the detached bone in place.

He went from 1 to 12 in a few laps.

Personally I think he should park it and heal up. He’s got the speed. Racing isn’t going to speed up the healing process. He had a few close calls as he was fading backwards. Not worth the risk right now.

I agree, take time and get healed up. He obviously has the speed, and that must be frustrating knowing that he can run up front if he wasnt injured. But, I think he needs to back off and wait until he can do a full moto at race speed.

He looks great. Could’ve had two W’s to his name right now if not for that injury. Pity he got injured

I remember an interview with AP (I'm pretty sure it was him) some time ago where he said that when he missed races for injuries he wasn't getting paid based on his contract. Unless AC has it written into his contract he gets paid whether or not he races, that could definitely be a factor with him gutting it out and racing.

I'm about 18months from when I had the same injury. Cross rutted and slammed shoulder first in the berm.

It's a rough road. I can't imagine still racing on this injury. Was very painful, limited range of movement and VERY little strength for the first 3 months.

Honestly, massive props to Adam for racing on this injury. It has to be very very difficult.

Did the second surgery correct the problem with his hand (or hands) going numb and losing grip strength? Hopefully that’s not a problem any more?

I have the same injury. I am in PT for it. The plan is to strengthen everything around it because it will not self repair. My PT has worked with pro and college stick and ball athletes and US Olympic gymnastic team. I did my own research and it looks like PT, surgery and doing nothing have about the same results. My PT told me my shoulder would always be loose and I am at a higher risk for a clavicle fracture. It kind of bums me out. I'm hoping his fitness will help but like a lot of people I would like to see him park the bike and get in some good PT and get strong for the outdoors.

If he was in a points chase then yeah, tough it out. But early season makes you scratch your head. The mental toll of seeing riders ride around you in corners has to be tough. You could see him shaking his head.
At the speed these riders go a crash usually can lead to injury. Riding with limited strength in one arm is asking for trouble.

Yes, from his vlogs you can tell that Adam can't even put on his own gear properly. Someone else has to put his goggles on. Unreal how he makes it work on the bike and even rides at top 5 speed for the first part of the race..

AC already mentioned that surgery is not an option for him.

Its the start of the season, he is in the points chase just two races ago he was tied with everyone else at zero points.

For those who have/had this injury what is it that allows him to be able to run at the front for 8-10 minutes but then all of a sudden fade so dramatically?

Pain increases? His strength wears out? He is very strong for a while it appears.

You can see him looking around when he gets passed, kind of giving way trying to stay out of trouble.

Yep most times PT is the best option.

X2.... he has no shot in sx... if he healed completely, he would be in the hunt t outdoors... now.. it will heal slower, and if he crashes, or someone crashes him (bam bam), he would probably not even be close to 100 percent outdoors...

On the latest @Ping he talked about this. Said it’s usually something like 3 months of full pay post injury then it gradually gets less and less. So if he had to take time out for his arm surgery he was likely going in to the step down payment range assuming he had a typical contract like Ping was talking about. He may need a number of races for that to reset so to speak but we’re all just guessing as we don’t really know.

Strength. The shoulder is loose moving front to back. I felt like I had a small head shake on the right side this was after a month resting it. I can't imagine hitting whoops and landing triples with that injury. It hurt like a motherfucker for 2 weeks after I did it and is range limiting to a small degree still.

The shoulder is the most complex joint in the body. It’s derailed many a careers. Just look at Reynard.

Unfortunately there is only so much you can do to “repair” shoulder injuries. Often times all you can do is strengthen the surrounding muscle to try and tighten up the shoulder.

It doesn’t heal, it doesn’t get better. Certain shoulder injuries will follow you your whole life.

I can't find the video but I'm pretty sure he said in a vlog last year that he already can't do anything above his head due to his prior shoulder injuries. Poor dude.

This situation sucks. As we can see, the speed to battle for wins is there even though he has an weak shoulder.

I had a grade 3 AC separation about 2 years ago. Its painful and debilitating. Watching him hit the woops over and over made me cringe. Hes pretty tough and determined to be out there riding with that. Hopefully he can stay off the ground because that could be a catastrophe.

Did a similar thing about 30 years ago, it’s healthy enough to not stop me from doing anything now but it took about a year to get there and about 5 years to get sort of pain free. Still makes cracking/pop noises occasionally, still hurts occasionally. Started riding and racing after about 4 months. I was a carpenter when I hurt mine, I really think the constant exercise of that work is what got me back to a good place as far as range of motion and strength.

I bet he’s racing because of contract clauses and the paycheck concerns, but that’s just a hunch.

AC is one of my favorite riders, I’d love to see him healthy for a few seasons to see his real potential.
