Comedians, and anybody in media, have to walk on eggshells now due to woke culture. the goalposts keep moving, they have to think about what they say today as they may get “cancelled” ten years from now when somebody decides that now it’s over the line.

There is hate speech and there are the arts. Performing. Comedy. Acting. People are too fucking stupid to separate them anymore. Someone recently tried to give Jason Momoa shit because he portrayed a character in Game of Thrones that was abusive to women.

Where in the actual fuck are we headed as a society? When exactly did we jump the shark? I can’t quite pinpoint it but all signs say we are doomed.

I saw Daniel Tosh live about 13-14 years ago. The stuff he said was amazing and I can’t imagine it flying these days. He nearly got canceled a few years ago when he made a rape joke. The guy is ruthless and so funny.

I actually got lucky and got to meet him and his girlfriend after the show. He was super nice and BS’d with me and a few friends for about 20 minutes outside his RV.

There use laughter to escape there dark or violent situation there in. Then it becomes there personality. At 5 I made up tons of jokes alot of them where really dirty. a chimpanzee meets prostistoot in a bar. They go back to her place. he finished in 2 minutes and goes to leave. She says hey where you going you chimpanzee ? She says I,m a prostitoot I hv sex for money. She shows him in the dictionary the meaning of a prostitoot. He says look up chimpanzee. It says eats, shoots and leaves. A a lot of jokes of a character I made up called dirty Ernie. There long story jokes the end always blind sides ya.

Freaking Chappelle never disappoints, I canceled Netflix a while back so I did not see his latest special but he was definitely walking the edge here.

This wasn’t a Dave Chappelle quote, it was a Rick Warren quote.

Whether or not Chappelle agrees with it or not isn’t an issue, the false part is the attribution.

And I love watching or listening to Chappelle, he’s probably one of the all time best at addressing serious issues with humor to make us think.

Regardless of the origins of the quote, what about the sensitive content warning? I only saw that post because of Joe Rogan sharing on his Instagram story that a Twitter user with 500,000+ followers had their account removed for showing a clip of a recent podcast he did.

No idea about the ‘sensitive content’ stuff. The graphic shows the factual issue, doesn’t say anything about sensitive content. Not even sure what platform it’s on, is that Twitter or Instagram? I don’t have either of those, although I do see some Twitter posts if they are embedded in a story.

The thing about really good comedians, like Chappelle, is that they don’t just make you laugh at their jokes. They make you think about things, and oftentimes those things are concerning major issues in our society. The really, really good ones are pretty freaking brave because they are exposing some uncomfortable thoughts that we may not even realize we have.

If there were no repercussions for what they say, then they wouldn’t be brave and their comedy wouldn’t be as meaningful or impactful as it is.

I am, and have been since almost the first time I ever saw/heard him, a big fan of Chappelle. As the misattributed graphic implies, though, that doesn’t mean that I love everything that he’s done or agree with every view that he expresses, but if you listen to him enough it doesn’t take long to understand that he’s actually a brilliant, thoughtful artist who just uses a different medium than the ‘classical’ artists that we normally think of.
