Looks like we'll need a gas tank, seat, plastics, and subframe :/

That would be hideous and in no way the same as what the new body style looks like.
It sure doesn't look like the new YZ. Just about ten times better.

Let's hope someone like R-Tech offers the 2022 restyle kit for older models, being the new bodywork and tank (just like the actual kit, but with the 2022 style) and adding a new (flatter) style seat that mounts to the old mounting points. It wouldn't be much more expensive than the Revolution Kit, you are just adding a seat.

I bought a 2022 YZ125 last week and just swapped everything over to my 2020 YZ125. It all bolts up but you’ll need a subframe and the fuel line from petcock to carburetor! Even the radiator leuvers fit!

These are pics of the 2020 with the 2022 body!

Just buy the new freaking bike and have an all new bike.

By the time you spend all that money on looks and still have a used bike stops making sense.

Maybe everyone can't afford 7k for a new bike.

It would seem to me if they can afford to put 1k worth of looks on their used bike - they could sell the used bike for 4-5k take that 1k plus and be awfully close to a brand new bike.

Don’t forget, not legal (2022)’s to ride in California OHV parks, etc. private tracks and race tracks only.

I just bought a 21 250 I’m thinking about converting. I forgot how big that seat pocket is on the old body style.

Jesus! Anyone ever heard of all seat foam? What's wrong here? If you want a flatter seat, get FOAM, trim to your requirements and enjoy the ride. Who cares what ya plastic looks like! NO ONE will notice if you have 2022 style on your 2006, no one cares. Really, no one will even notice! Unsure

Hmm! I didn’t realize or see in any of the reviews that the frame geometry changed ( maybe I missed it ) if true I think it would be a good thing as the 2016 yz250x I had , i always wanted it a little bit sharper, but just playing with the fork height didn’t get the results I wanted , this makes me a lil more interested in this bike again, been thinking of going back to 2t for the lighter weight, easier to work on, cheaper to maintain.....etc
I need to find one to test ride lol

They didn't change the main frame. Still the same part number since 2016. The sub-frame was the only change. The "X" frame was changed from the standard YZ. It has the same steering head as the 125 which is about a degree steeper head angle.

Except that the DMV apparently doesn't know it's own new rules, and is sending registration and red stickers still for new 2022 mx bikes...at least for the 3 guys I know that have recently purchased them.

And this is why I don't even care if the bike is illegal in CA. If the DMV doesn't even know, do you think the Rangers in an OHV park will care?
I never ran a green or red sticker on any of my MX bikes. Don't ride like a tool and the rangers won't even look at you. (At least down here where I am. Up north it may be different.)

Red stickers issued through 2021. New registration starts January 1 2022

That’s what I thought! In an earlier post someone said they went back to pre 2016 frame, that’s why I make the comment! But still interested in the new 250 , 2t!

I've heard all sorts of crazy stuff, but the part number is the same for the '22 250 as it has been since '16, so I'm sure nothing has changed there.

Good one GrapeApe! Really, guys talking about spending large bucks on this conversion, for what? How can this help the bike in any way? There's many ways at massively reduced coin to upgrade the bike. To spend big to make it look standard? Is this where we're at? (Tupperware.com for more on plastics!!)

I know most who would do it would be doing it for looks, and I'd agree that's not worthwhile in my opinion either.

That said, as an example, if you have a mint 2021 YZ and the magazines and websites keep saying how the ergo's are WAY better due to the slimmer and redesigned plastics and seat (yeah you can add/cut foam to/from the old seat) then I can see why it would be appealing for some.

It's like bars, although it's a stretch comparing it... people don't throw on a set of bars to get comfy and people then give them a hard time "fitting those bars for looks", they did it for feel.

The new air box changes the power character massively as well. Smooths out the bottom improves lugging.

It’s not all seat foam. The tank is lower and not as close to the steer tube on the 22’. Which makes the 22’ seat completely different. Here are pictures of the bikes with the seats on them. The 20’ has added foam to make the seat flatter. As it does feel better than stock, it doesn’t feel the same as the 22’ at all

Kinda hard to just “buy (another) new bike” after buying a 2022 .. he bought the 22’ for his daughter btw. Plus he sent the 20’ suspension to Enzo and has a lot of time testing the bike and has it dialed in perfectly now. On top of all that, with a good shop discount, it’s a lot easier to buy the parts to convert it. Unless someone offers him $5500 for the 20’ he would rather keep the 20’ for now.

To Falcon, Nor Cal is a little hit and miss with rangers. Couple places check every bike. Others don’t. Hollister Hills has a ranger on a power trip .. she reported to the DMV when she found out my friends 2003 ktm 50 had a green sticker. DMV ended up sending him a red sticker for it.

It would seem to me if they can afford to put 1k worth of looks on their used bike - they could sell the used bike for 4-5k take that 1k plus and be awfully close to a brand new bike.

Except when they already have $1k+ in suspension, $300+ in exhaust, couple hundred in reeds, possibly countless hours of jetting if not the cost of having a shop tune in on the dyno etc. And if you maintain your bikes properly, the steering, swingarm, linkage and wheel bearings wouldn’t be worn out. So by the time you do all that you could be into the bike for $10k or more .. minus around $4k-ish if you sell the old bike .. you’d be $6 out of pocket. Not everyone have tht kind of money to drop. So $1000 could be much more feasible for a lot of people. And I didn’t mention how dialed people are on the bike they’ve been riding for a year or more

No one will notice? 🤦‍♂️That’s the point here. Make it look like the new bike! 🤷‍♂️ You’re not putting the restyle kit on the old bike so people can still see that it’s an old bike. Not everyone can afford a new bike but can afford and may want it to look newer and nicer 🤙
