Good input fellas.

Idaho seems great but as mentioned above I think I probably missed the boat on that one. Too many Californias moved up there are priced just about everyone out.

Texas is appealing. I lived outside College Station for a bit in my early 20’s. Last time I was in the area it seemed like an extension of Austin with all the growth.

Haven’t thought much of Alabama. Something to look into.

I’m a fireman so relocated jobs isn’t as easy as other professions.
As a Cal. Fireman isn’t your retirement 100k a yr for 20 yrs of service ? Chicago for a fireman would b the pinnacle rt ? A great chance of 4-5 alarm fires, there fm are know as badasses. Chicago Land people r like the human race operating at its max compared to other states. I worked in 43 states utility work 88-98 and trucking in every state. I always talk to local people to get an idea of life there. A lot of Eastern Europeans very hungry to work hard and make a lot of money . You hear more languages than anywhere. IL. Has some great tracks not far out of the city, red Bud and other Mi. Great tracks. Wisconsin prob has the best sand tracks in the country and very cheap riding. Look up wi. Rapids deep sand track with hills, easy sx track, huge trail loops, hill climb, 10 bucks. A lot of beautiful Lakes , western Wi. Rolling hills r not as big as Pa. but beautiful scenery. The best camping in the country. I see more dirt bikes in Wi. And iL. Than any other state. Summer time Wi. Is huge for camping, boating , canoeing, etc a flash back in time . People just having fun and letting go and being free. The bad is warm weather only from June to sept. Millville is on the Wi. Boarder also . Riding on frozen lakes your dressed to keep warm not show boat, just ride and hv fun, that flows ovr into the spirit of summer riding.

Move to Idaho everyone else from California has moved here. Hell home prices are getting pretty close to some areas of California. My family bought 20acres and built a house for $109,000 in 1990. You now can't buy an acre for less then $140,000 here. Most natives can't afford the rent anymore. Everyone moved here because they loved the feel of Idaho and it's values but now we have more people voting the same way they did in the states they moved from. In all honesty this place is great for kids and use to be great for outdoors. It is getting bought up and closed off very quickly.
$140k for an acre of land is getting close to California prices? Off by a factor of 5 at least.

At those prices, we'd be buying up 10 lots at a time and building a single house with a moto track around it. Now you've got me thinking about a vacation property up there.

There is more to California than SoCal. To me, anything SoCal is a shit hole and anyone who thinks it’s not has probably never been out of the area. Yes, you have the beach, but it’s full of trash and definitely doesn’t make up for the rest of the area.

Move north, Oxnard, Ventura, Santa Barbara, Sant Cruz or San Luis Obispo are all nice areas without the BS. I love my setup where I live, but if I was to move, I’d go to Ventura or Oxnard.

If you live in San Diego, you not going to be happy anywhere in Texas.
I like these words pretty well, though I think a Californian could be happy in Texas. It just depends. I could easily live rural somewhere between Houston and Austin, there are some rolling hills and oaks and a day with a dozer could make a nice track. He just needs to make a list of what he's trying to get away from, what keeps him where he is, then compare those things to the new place of consideration.

California is running out of water everywhere and land in desirable areas , yet they keep building more houses , have changed zoning to allow people to add up to two new dwellings in their back yards , etc , etc , etc . However , the pluses still out number the minuses for me. I’m an older dude , and have lost friends to this virus , so the masks and vaccines don’t bother me. Riding opportunities are sooooo good around here. Not to mention all of the other action sports than we can pretty much do year round. Good luck to you on your relocation efforts. When you find it , keep the secret 😁

There’s some great areas outside of Pittsburgh. The weather is kind of shit here in the winter but solid spring, summer and fall. But realistically Pittsburgh area doesn’t get “that” much snow compared to other parts of PA. Our governor is a fuckin moron but I have no doubt we correct that issue in the next election.

Other than those two issues Western PA is a really nice place. There’s quite a few tracks within a few hours and the off-road scene has really taken off. It seems like everyone and their brother is getting into hard enduro- even guys who barely ever rode dirt bikes.

Most areas have very low crime rates and people leave you alone. But it’s like absolutely anywhere else in any part of the country. Some areas a very safe and some aren’t. Do some research before you move anywhere. Most police departments list their crime stats on their website so you can check out the types of incidents that are high. any time you see an area with a very high number of burglaries/robberies or vehicle thefts you’ll wanna stay away. Those crimes are very indicative of what you’ll get from that area.

Too funny. I was just in Pittsburgh last weekend and thought the exact same thing. Gas was $0.65 higher per gallon compared to Ohio. What a complete shithole, not that Ohio is much better.

As for retirement, no. Maybe at age 50 but 16 years of service is less than 50% of what he's making now.

Yea, LA proper is a total shithole. I'm down there frequently for work, and I can't wait to get the fuck out of there everytime. Sooooo many people, garbage everywhere, never ending sea of bums. I don't understand how anyone with money decides to live there.

Much of it is a tradeoff. That's why I hate when people complain about thefts and shit on the sidewalks in the bay area, because....that's what you signed up for. That's the tradeoff for those wages. You get paid well, but you're surrounded by filth. I don't get paid well, but I do get fresh air and I don't have to worry about a hobo shitting on my doorstep.

And you can be on the slopes skiing or snowboarding in a matter of minutes. NICE!

Absolutely. They get what they vote for, but they're not getting what they pay for.

I live on a lake in the Sierra Foothills, surrounded by mtb trails, moto trails, and a ski resort 50min away. I can walk to my wakeboard boat in the marina.

I go to LA for work and sometimes I stay with a friend who paid $800k for a tiny rundown shack in a horrible neighborhood. His car gets broken into once a week, and there's usually human shit on his sidewalk. I ask him why he lives there, and it's like he's institutionalized. His excuse always has something to do with lots of dining options, music, etc... Fuck that noise.

We do, but unfortunately I've lived in one place for too long, so riding all the same spots has gotten a little old after a couple decades. Gonna need a new bike and some new scenery at some point. Don;t need greener grass, just different grass.

I bought the new KLR Adventure (actually 2) for loooong rides/riding over, across and throughout the Sierras. You live on the west-side of trail-adventure heaven. I’m a firm believer in big gas tanks and just keep riding farther…& farther…& enjoy the adventure.

We’re kinda lucky around here.

For sure a long range dual sport would open up a lot of riding!

I get that, I think it’s good to shock your system- totally new challenge. Most Cal. People move to other dessert states out west or Texas. I hv to see lakes and rivers and everything green in summer. The energy in the summer is really high in The Midwest, because of the shortness of warm weather and the struggle of winter. The reason red Bud is so wild is because people are jacked up for summer and July 4th. Pic last weekend stop at Sheboygan lake Mi. And a tiny river

Boise used to be good until they started building 5,000 houses a year for all the people trying to escape California and Washington.

In the last 10 years traffic has become an absolute nightmare because the infrastructure hasn't even been close to keeping up.

Boise might not be as bad as the giant cities but it ain't much better these days.

16+ years in a municipal fire station and you’re considering LEAVING?!?

Your pension alone is worth more than 99% of Vital will make in a lifetime dude. TX firemen don’t get paid anything near to what you guys make in CA. Yeah you won’t pay state income tax here, but if you own a home in Carlsbad, you’re probably paying close to nothing on property tax there either.

Dude, you legitimately live in what I consider the nicest part of Southern California. I honestly have to wonder if you understand how perfect of a spot Carlsbad is.

I get that culturally, CA has become kooky, but it’s still a great place to live.

My $.02 as somebody who packed up and left in August.

Shhh Don’t give away any secrets. Michigan gets snow 6 months out of the year and our riding is horrible.

The reason red Bud is so wild is because people are jacked up for summer and July 4th. Pic last weekend stop at Sheboygan lake Mi. And a tiny river

Shhh Don’t give away any secrets. Michigan gets snow 6 months out of the year and our riding is horrible.
We get snow up to four months of the year, but the big difference is the temps. Average lows in the winter here are probably somewhere around 28-35, but 35 and sunny with no wind is actually really nice if you're moving at all. Out there you guys deal with single digits and that's cold.

With all due respect to my Keystone State friends, it is a lovely state with fantastic people, however, trying to find a store to purchase beer in Pennsylvania - is extremely frustrating. Do NOT move there if you like easy beer access. *Worth mentioning, that Troeg’s Perpetual IPA, out of Hershey, is an exceptional fluid. Absolutely tasty shiiiiii

You should always be worried about doorstep shitting hobos. There everywhere.
