So rode with the swelters today, not a huge fan. Got the job done, but my hands were still damn cold, and there’s too much material on the palms for my taste, but they got the job done. Hands were going a little numb, temps were in the high 20’s maybe low 30’s for reference.
I don't think anything will keep your hands warm in those temps other than the big gauntlet things you put over the grips that you put your hands into. Even with heated grips I don't know that a glove alone will keep the heat in.

I ride in cold weather a LOT, best thing that works for me no matter the gloves youre wearing is just go out and ride until your fingers are so cold you need to take a break because of it. Sit there until they come back, usually 5 mins or so for me, and then im good for the rest of the day no issues.

I dont know why, but it works every single time for me, hurts at first but then never cold again for the day. Also, tighter the glove the worse it'll be. I like the Fox Legion cold weather gloves; work well and also work on your phone for maps if thats your sort of thing. Good luck.
This is the way. I’m out in it all day every day bangin nails. The only thing to do is push through it. It hurts like hell for the first bit, but you’ll get over it. Same with cold feet and arm pump.

Plumb your coolant through the bars then wear normal moto gloves. Install a valve and a bypass line to control flow/heat. 😎

That is some premium Macguyver shit there, I wouldn't do it myself purely out of laziness and a dislike for any minor bump in complexity, but awesome job on the ingenuity.

Ding...ding...

Its like putting wetsuits on your hands. My hands never get cold on 3+ hour freezing woods rides. It can get a little wet in there though.

This has got to be one of the wildest things I’ve ever seen done to a bike….. I have so many questions. I’m making an assumption I hope I’m wrong about, but how are they plumbed in to the bars?

It's very common in the snowbike world.

First of all you put a hose through the bars leaving about an inch on both sides. Then seal the ends of the bars, most use a threaded insert that you can buy from fastway. Then drill and tap a hole in the center of the bars, fill it with some high-temp silicone, insert plug - this makes sure coolant has to go to each end of the bars and then through the hose that you installed, otherwise it will just flow from port to port and your hands will still be cold. Then drill and tap on both sides for the hose fittings.

Install a thermostat in the hose right out of the head. Install a two way valve in the bypass port, one line then goes to the bars, the second line tees over to the line coming from the other side of the bars. This allows you to shut off the flow through the bars. Then back into the cooling system. It's really pretty dang simple and a complete game changer if you ride in the cold.

I use the 2nd port on the thermostat for a temperature sensor just to help monitor water temps.

I posted more of my build here: https://www.vitalmx.com/forums/Bike-Builds,46/Snowbike-Build,1395958

hopefully finish it up this week.

Does anyone put “hot hands” warmers on top of their hands while they ride?

Leatt windproof gloves are pretty good. I think I have GPX 5.5.

I've tried the surgical gloves under the regular gloves, but my hands sweat way too much for that. Ended up with extra raw hands, I'm sure they would work for 15 min Moto's, but not for multiple hour rides.

I am using specially made "bags" and 100% briskers. Picture from last year -15C. Till -2..3C is enough with bigger handguards. Wind is worst thing for hands

I rode with the 100% Briskers last weekend. It was 37 F and I did a 1 hour mountain bike ride. The gloves were cold for the first 5 mins but once I topped my first climb and my body got warm, my hands got warm too and the gloves felt great for the rest of the ride.

I will probably get the mitts for cold riding if we don’t have a super snowy winter.

So rode with the swelters today, not a huge fan. Got the job done, but my hands were still damn cold, and there’s too much material on the palms for my taste, but they got the job done. Hands were going a little numb, temps were in the high 20’s maybe low 30’s for reference.
DAMN! That’s COLD! I’m riding in wet cold conditions; but, nothing below upper 30s to 40s. The gloves are a little thicker in the palm than my daily gloves.

You guys are talking "Sled Weather"...if ya think about it! Grinning

I spent another coupl'a days in my Swelters and they're working perfectly for the 40-50 degree wet weather I was in (Mountains along the Pacific/West-Coast trip from SoCal to far NorCal in rain and 'int he clouds' at altitude).

If I was gonna ride in Murph's weather? HEATED SLED GLOVES! (Not Kidding!) Yes, I'm a fair-weather puss from Cali!

Rode with the 100% Briskers with some Hot Hands hand warmers shoved in them. It was 40 and sunny, no issues whatsoever, and my hands get cold easily.

Has anyone used the waterproof Briskers? I assume they have even better insulation, but the grip material might be a bit odd?

I have Raynauds, so I've had to stop riding in temps below 50. There was an MSR glove, it was just a ski glove with msr label on it, theres no way Im ever riding in a fat glove like that again, downright dangerous, hands slipping all over the place inside that glove. The brisker is not half bad, but like everyone else id like to see a thin warm glove that can work in lower temps

days in the 40's, I like the fox legion. It doesn't flow much air at all to the back of the hand, and is heavier material than a summer MX glove.

30's id recommend a klim snowcross style glove.

The latex glove as a liner someone suggest above also works great.

Funny thing...

We've had some cold "snow rides" in...Baja. No shit. Since the 1st truly "cold" ride...about a decade...ago...Cameron "PAB" Steele puts heated grips on his bike for our winter-Baja rides...and PLENTY of us have given him A TON OF SHIT FOR IT! Shocked

I just ordered 3 kits! (1 for the X/2 for the KLRs!) Silly

Pretty sure that makes me a Hypocrite! Grinning

Being a supplier of both Mx and snow gear, I am sure Milt Reiner of FXR would have a product for this. Hell it was 10 degrees F today and I had all the vents open on my FXR jacket, without the the inner liner and still sweated to death. I like FXR showmobile glove for winter riding. Waiting for some responses from the guys who compete in the Numb Bum 24 hour ice race. Temp can get down to -20 or -25.

FXR has 3 different gloves for colder riding temperatures.

Cold Cross Ultra Lite which has a warmth index of 1.

Cold Cross Lite which has a warmth index of 2.

Cold Cross Neoprene which has a warmth index of 3.
