I was told his bars snapped off in the whoops at Club and he ran head on into Enzo Lopes in the other lane. Broken arm, elbow, shoulder, facial cuts, and probably the worst for him, another concussion that had him knocked out for 2 minutes. Assuming this is true, he might need to think about hanging it up, he's bonked that noggin a few too many times. Anyone heard anything?

A few years ago those bars were 'cheese', just like renthals were 30 yrs ago. Hope they've gotten better!

Yeah hang it up my kid had three of the worst grade concussions without oxygen for minutes and His short term memory is gone

The part you forget to mention was when was the break post a bunch of crashes? Even if not crashed a ton, or the break was not post crash, the aluminum gets stressed over time and the risk for failure increases. Are they a brand new set? Look to be broken at the bar mount which makes me thing something wasn’t right with the mount and creased the bar or something similar.
I personally only run bars with a cross bar and once again have been running them for years with zero issue so I’ll keep on taking the risk.
As someone who knows the family who runs the company pretty decently I’m going to imagine there is more to the story than just never heard back. Our entire local track is covered in their bars let alone a ton of people in OTHG, Pro teams and ect. 1-2 failures does not mean a bad product.
I’ll continue to trust them, and change out my bars after any big get off.

Bike looks like it doesn't get much love. Plastics all scratched, seat torn. Been running Mikas for years and never an issue. Chains and sprockets too. 100 hours on my rear hybrid 51T and it's just fine. But I do lube and adjust the chain on occasion.

I'd agree with your point if we were talking about an engine. It's by no means the cleanest bike hahaha, but handlebars don't need much love.

Every year I pull ours off, clean the bar and mounts, and put it all back together at the proper torque settings. We check torque every few weeks on them after that. That bar snapped at the mount. Loose clamp? Dirt got in there too and damaged the bar? Hard to say. Moto bikes sure take a beating in tough conditions, and I'm a little OCD on making sure ours are clean, lubed, and properly adjusted. As a result we rarely have parts failures. Maybe it's just a bit of dumb luck too.

You can't remember the spate of breakages the twin walls had about 15 years ago? They were snapping right where the second tube overlays the inner.

Stuff breaks and it happens more often when fast guys use it.

Very sad for everyone involved, sincerely hope Joey makes a full recovery.

We have been running Mika Bars ever since the company started with zero issues. That seems to be a clamp issue on a roached out bike.

I put a set of Mika on my son's new KX65 last year and first medium sized(not just tip over) crash he had snapped them the exact same way. No more Mika for us.

This could've been caused by a few things:
1. a small burr on the bar mount
2. a previously bent aluminum bar that was bent back into place
3. an old handlebar that has run through its yield strength.

Having used mika for years and seen the abuse they have been through I would say this was a fluke or there is another reason they broke like that. Best wishes for Joey

Get well soon Joey. Those are some nasty injuries. As for Mika, I used to run them all the time until I started to notice that they bend with the slightest tip over. When I washed out in the mud on my pit bike and bent my brand new bars, I decided that my money would be better spent elsewhere from then on. Never an issue with them breaking.
