Against the three best 450 guys from the GP’s? Kenny pre-injury would probably be right there with anyone over the course of a season. As it is, Eli has obviously slipped, Kenny has health issues, and as much as I like Marv he isn’t beating those guys consistently imo. The Lawrence brothers are still young. Time will tell with them.

Every weekend? I think Tomac, Roczen and Ferrandis would have something to say about that.
Roczen and Ferrandis aren't American.

The top MXGP riders seem to crash a bit more than our guys, which is testament to rougher tracks, or that they are hanging it out a bit more.

They race motocross on the MXGP circuit. Forget about SX in this case since they don't have a SX circuit to race. Not sure if most of you circle jerks don't realize they are two totally different genres. I'm talking MX.

Falcon it’s the MX Sports Series. The racers from the GP’s practice and qualifying motos on Saturday and most any of them could top ten with only one day of pounding versus 2. The outdoors have been dumbed down with smoother tracks and not near as much technical stuff.
I grew up with a dry, slick and sometimes rocky Saddleback, a muddy half day or less then concrete slick Carlsbad where you had to rail the outside to stay up. Now we can’t ride unless it ripped and watered and fluffed up like a horse race track. Evolution they call it.

We know you are talking MX bud, nevertheless, here are three things one needs to consider....MXGP has 18 rounds and months to test setup. They also can do more to their bikes without the production rule. This surely gives them an advantage. No?

1.18 rounds
2. Months more (than US) to test outdoor setup
3. No production rule - more freedom to develop their bikes.

Correct me if I'm wrong...I can take a kick in the ol bean bag.

I do agree. The American series is much more “run and gun” with scheduling

Have people forgotten that one of those guys went over a couple of years ago and won both motos on a borrowed bike with hardly any prep?

My thoughts on the matter, as for SX most of the best riders seem to be the best riders outdoors as well but for some reason top guys from Europe would struggle. I’m calling BS on that one

Herlings' performance was great that day , but I think more telling was the Red Bud MXdN debacle .

Should he not be praised? Did you watch some of the lines he was taking? Or wheelieing thru that one rough left hander? Or cutting down so tight in those uphill 180 things?

The dude is a monster and amazing to watch.

I truly belive a great rider is a great rider regardless of which side of the pond he races.

The euro vs american thing is not a good comparison of skills and abilities. I doubt Herlings, Gajser, Prado, Febvre or Cairoli would get into the top 5 in a SX race.

I also doubt Tomac, Webb, Anderson, Ciancirulo or Barcia would get into the top 5 in a GP. Especially not any sand tracks.

If the euros used the same time and effort practicing SX from a young age as the US riders do we would get a fair comparison.

Same goes for the US riders and euro style mx tracks.

If Tomac or Webb focused solely on MXGP they would be a MXGP champions. If Herlings or Febvre focused on SX from a young age they would be champs in the US.

And yes. I am from europe. Smile

Man I’m totally kidding, Herlings is a badass.

I’m hoping the lady that comes to clean it is a Tomac fan and will leave it up there.

A few years ago I watched who I thought was the the best American outdoor rider win a moto at the MXoN before he was landed on. He had the skill and mind set and bike setup to beat them. And his team mates as well. But we can't just show up and expect to be the best overseas. Same here they come in with a better foundation for outdoors because thats what there raised and trained on. So I always expect the top riders from Europe to excel where ever they race.

There’s a thing labeled the MXON. You might want to watch some of them online💡once you get back from wherever you’ve been.

Coldenhoff and Prado impressed me greatly that day! I’d already witnessed Herlings incredible corner speed and superior technique at Ironman. Actually the top 6-7 Euros impressed me at MXON @ #nextlevel

IMO it’s the technique of SX that ‘holds back’ US based riders when riding outdoors, compare both styles closely while watching Nationals or MXGP. But you do need to remember that we are talking seriously small differences that only matter over the course of a moto.

IMO because SX is so important to teams riders specialise - just compare the amount of time spent training & the conditions for each discipline compared to MXGP.
