There is an oil check bolt on the engine that you can remove, just fill till oil comes out that hole. I've figured out that mine holds ~700cc, no issues so far.

That’s not correct on putting the filter in backwards. The plain metal end pushed against the nipple that sticks out would shut off oil flow. A paper filter crushes very easy so it would not have to have a hole poked in it. It is reversed to most Honda’s filter cavities. I’ve seen it too many times and a simple mistake gets very costly. I’m not saying that’s what happened here, but it’s a possibility.

Oil change 0.63L
Oil & filter change 0.65L
I have measured out the exact amount of oil as stated in manual and its always too low when I check it on the site glass. I routinely have to add 100 to 150 cc more in order to get it correct on the site glass. Even then it still doesn't flow out of the oil overflow bolt.

Yes that’s what it wrote in the book,0.6 .. but it’s not coming from quantity of oil, you can pull 1L it’s not gonna help
We had several issues here in France for beach sand championships.. Kaboom engines one after one ..
the lubricant system in the engine is really bad and oil is not going where it should goes for good lubrication
This happened a lot to Bambam at beginning when he wa saying “I run standard engine..”

But please all stop with this Rotella oil .. is it not making you a bit nervous when you see the color of this oil when you drain ? It seems like you drain your truck

Have a 2021 YZ450F. Rod shot through the cases. 21 hours. Had the twin air power flow kit on it since day one and changed the air filter every ride, oil every 2 hours, oil filter every 4 hours. Taking it back to where I bought it from on Tuesday. I’ll try to post updates in here as the process goes on

I worked for a rider who rode on a smaller sx team riding KTM and that’s all we used the time I worked for him. I myself have been using it since 2004.

They aren't, but even if they were, those teams are constantly pulling those motors down, measuring everything and rebuilding them. Something the average rider or even local pro is not doing. When the motor of an average rider is pulled down for maintenance work, it's very obvious what type of oil they have been running. Whether they have been putting good oil in to it or just cheap crap.

When the motor of an average rider is pulled down for maintenance work, it's very obvious what type of oil they have been running. Whether they have been putting good oil in to it or just cheap crap.

I use Yamalube in all our blue bikes! I have friends that have been riding 20+ years that use Rotella and change the oil after every ride, not my thing but it works.

I'm on a different bike that carries some more oil, but do you think it makes sense money wise and (even more) time wise to change oil this often? Maybe you could use a more trusty one and change it every 4 hours or more...

I put 45 hours on my 2020 250F. Yamalube semisynthetic / oil filter / twin air power flow filter every 4 hours. I did a clutch around 30 hours. No issues, and I mostly ride in sand and I am not afraid of the rev limiter.

Just sold my yz450f 2018 with 60h. Haven't had any issues but a lot of yz450f 2018-2021 has been blowing up.
Looks like they have a conrod problem and apparently lubricant issue.

Just compared parts number and the yz450f 2022 has a new conrod, new partsnumber anyway.

Hoping Yamaha has fixed the issues on th 22 bikes.
I'm actually considering getting a gasgas or husky 350 instead of a new yz

So now that I can finally talk about it, my brand new 21 had a rod failure. Exact hours was 23.9. Serviced constantly.Nobody buy the Aegis insurance. It’s a scam. These bikes are sold for “competition use” and the dealer will try and sell you out on their insurance. Once you get it and if anything goes wrong, their response is that do not cover any competition use vehicles. The shop & adjuster even knew it was a rod failure, but the actual company’s reason was “due to pro level completion use, this is too far out of warranty”. They found every reason not to help. They pulled my results, my YouTube, and my Instagram. Here’s some pics of the motor. And Yamaha didn’t want to do anything since it was past the 60 day warranty. No 450 should have a rod failure at 23.9 hours. The 22s have a new rod part number but I believe it is the same, the cases have a new part number aswell but they’re the same. If you have a 21/22 YZ450F I highly recommend getting a carillo rod ASAP. If you can’t find one, the Moose Carillo is the same exact rod.

My new design of toilet paper only takes one extra tool and just another half minute to get off the roll: easy!
I actually know many people with different brands of bikes that will use a small hand vaccum to suck out small particles of dirt from the intake/air boot when they pull filters. Its more popular than you are giving it credit for.

I hope you didn't get injured, but I look at the carnage and think "how could this NOT cause a crash?!"

I'm on a 2020 YZ450F and fearing this ^^^ every day now (only have 15 hours on the bike). I change oil every 5-7ish hours, and use only Maxima full synthetic - 700cc to be exact, but THAT ... dang ...

I had the same thing happen to a 21 YZ 450 at 35hrs. Rod snapped by the wrist pin. I am 63 years old and anal about maintenance! I used a Twin Air Power Flow kit and l would lay the bike on the side when changing the air filter with a vacume handy just in case. Head and cams were in great shape so lubrication wasnt the issue. The 20-22 YZ 450s are having rod issues! Know of some fast pro level guys going 60- 80 hours with no problems and than someone on a 22 that let loose at 10hrs! The updated rod in the 22 is supposedly out of the 450FX and visually has a diiferent coating on the wrist pin end but still only cost $35-$40! I waited for an after market billet rod for over 4 months and ended up with a Crank Works rod. Think they are still availible and they are about $260. Mine let loose when landing from a table a turn away from a triple step up so i consider myself lucky!!!!

I was lucky aswell. It was on a straight and not a jump thankfully. Super anal about maintenance too, my KTM went 100 hard hours before I did a rod haha. CW rods are bad ass too! If anyone needs a carillo rod I can help you out and get one, it’s just stamped by moose. Still scary and major bullshit if you ask me tho haha. No 450 should be doing this under 50 hours with the proper maintenance

My numbers came directly from the manual I received from Yamaha. I wouldnt try and help a guy out without giving him the correct info

Damn! I just switched to yamaha recently with a 22' 250f and I hope they don't have this problem! Mine has 10 hours on it now and this makes me nervous
