I cannot believe GuyB is defending someone who, as of right now, ripped off numerous Vital members. Then has the audacity to insult and belittle the members who dare say anything bad about ML. Good thing he is leaving this site, his bias towards the industry is comical at best. I know nothing of the riders on the race team being paid. But, it certainly appears that ML has taken money from members and proceeded to not provide a service. Then, has lied through his teeth through various excuses, to not provide a refund.

In what world does that not warrant some sort of action?

lot of angst here. but it sounds like enough folks were wronged that there is something going on. .what all this arguing boils down to is does ML have the ethics to run this website? plain and simple.

You say you aren’t bad mouthing him while calling him a whiny bitch over and over.

You also glossed over how he had my trust at the beginning and at the end once everything was cleared up.

Who’s backpedaling now?

Oh, and for all you dickheads who kept trying to find excuses to questions Scot’s credibility after we established it was all on ML and we’re saying “how do you know he’ll still send the parts? You shouldn’t trust him, etc.”… here’s to mud in your eye 🖕

We questioned his credibility based on a thread YOU started. You made him look bad not us. What is wrong with you? Did he PayPal you money to ride his nuts and make up a bunch of BS about industry people calling you? You realize how ridiculous this all sounds?

Asking a customer who has already been screwed by the previous owner if WCL to remind him about the order kind of takes away any credibility doesn't it?
Glad I'm not the only one who finds it cringey how hard he's white knighting for some dude he doesn't know. Sounds like they had some deep conversations lol

Off topic of ML, but what can a rider lick Cody pull in on a no salary bike deal? I am guessing he has endorsements from other companies, like gear, helmet, etc.? I wonder how the mechanics get by in these deals too?

so what I have learnt on this thread is:

1. ML took on way too much, most are happy to give him credit for starting a team and giving riders an opportunity but are quick to throw in the pitchforks when it started to fail i.e. WCL stuff especially
2. Most want to move on (as I am sure Scott and ML do) but people want to relitigate stuff in this thread to keep it going on
3. A select few do not trust ML anymore and dont want him to run Vital, or will now not trust what happens in Vital

So in summary, yes ML made some mistakes, judging by what I have heard he is trying to make things right but with such a big personal debt then it is not an overnight thing. But for me, I cant wait for this thing to blow over so we can all start talking about moto, I am quite comfortable ML taking Vital over and doing what he used to do well here.

I agree with your last sentence.

We don’t need more industry people thinking they can find money to fund a team. That’s a shitty, idealistic model. I appreciate the sentiment and what it did for Coty, but running a race team is the equivalent of opening a restaurant. Most all are going to fail. So many former restaurant employees go in mad debt to start one thinking it’ll be awesome and then they find out it’s actually just a money suck used by rich people to offset their gains in their actual profitable businesses.

Look at Star racing - it’s literally a vanity project for a rich race fan. It also provides a great outlet to spend his money on something he loves instead of throwing it to the government to squander. This is what we need to be cultivating. We need to introduce more rich people to the sport and let them want to dump their money instead of taxes.

Thinking an industry person used to making sub six figures a year is going to understand how to succeed in a world that takes huge deal flow is a recipe for disaster. You need actual business people who understand things and even then it’s probably going to still lose money and someone needs to be on the other end to take advantage of that loss write off.
Please don’t post common sense and hard facts on Vital.

How anyone can be mad at ML is far beyond me. The kid has zero business experience, swung for the fences and missed. He would’ve never known if he could do it or not if he didn’t try.

Let me tell you, starting a business, and having it grow while you’re still learning how to run the business can be overwhelming, ML did his best, he should be congratulated, not ridiculed.

I dare any of you to do what he has done over the past two years and not experience some failure.

Um, paying for something and not receiving it usually makes people mad. Then a myriad of excuses and constant ghosting are not exactly reason to jump for joy....

This has to be a troll right? I’ve started a business, yes it’s hard, but I didn’t steal money from customers. There’s a clear line between struggling to keep up and taking what’s not yours. That’s also not the only group of people who he screwed over so he has proven his true character here.

Varner is just running a business, why would anybody be mad that he takes money from out of state and only services his local guys?

What about that Derek Harris guy or whatever who won't show his face around here after doing the same thing?

How about you, have you ever had a customer not want to pay for a job? You're the asshole for wanting them to pay for the product or service they got?

It's not the failure of running a business that people are upset about.

Ok, I had no idea he didn’t pay anyone back, it was explained to me that he either fulfilled his orders, or payed people back.

Good to know the motocross industry is a place you can fuck people over, steal money from them, lie to them, be an idiot with personal finances, have zero integrity, be dishonest and still land a job in the industry for doing so. Only refunds or product ML delivered was AFTER he was blown out on social media blaming everything expect his own morals.

Anyone absolutely can start a business, My point was that most if not all people who start a race team lose money. For a rich team owner, that doesn’t matter to them because at the end of the day the write off of the loss offsets their taxable income from their profitable endeavors. Even in losing money, they win in the grand scheme of things. We need more people with those type of goals to get into owning race teams. If we made it a rich guy vanity thing like in all sports versus a bunch of broke teams struggling to hustle a budget every year, we’d have a better rider support infrastructure.

More Bobby Regans and less industry people shooting their shot that’s going to end up devastating to them financially and often personally.

This isn't about the race team. No, he doesn't owe me money. No, I don't think he should be blackballed out of the industry.
I tend to agree with 99% of your posts man, but backing ML when HE himself has fallen on his sword about the WCL stuff isn't a good look. Not that my opinion of you actually matters, obviously.
This thread is off the rails, not because of the people band wagon jumping on ML, but because of his buddies or the uninformed backing him on the WCL thing.
He blatantly lied, PUBLICLY, to WCL customers. He somewhat owned it publicly as well. We all need to move on. He has an opportunity going forward to hopefully mend his reputation and get some respect back. I hope he does. But downplaying how bad the WCL thing was isn't helping anyone. Neither is continuing to pile on.

Let's all just wait and see...

Terrible take. That’s like saying no one can call a scammer out in the Bazar section if they actually haven’t been scammed by the person. Or good ole Madoff was a great man, as long as you didn’t lose your life savings to him you have no skin in judging him
