Well... They say that the ocean's rising so that must mean there's more water, right?!

Looks like a pond even when full. The person that named the lakes in the west must be from Minnesota. They count ponds as Lakes too. Wisconsin people joking call them mud ducks, lakes are not big enough to bring joy to a duck. Ducks usually fly ovr a MN. Lake and say I,m not even quacking for this one.
Lake Oroville: 3.6M acre/ft
Lake Winnebago (WI's largest interior lake): 3.4M acre/ft
That's water volume, not size. Is that how lakes in Cali are measured? Lake Winnebago is 131,000 acres surface area, Lake Oroville is 15,000 acres.

If you are looking to actually pull water out of it, then a body of water's volume is probably most important figure. But to be honest, I think that most people would waffle back and forth between volume or surface area based on whatever is best for their current argument!

Funny you say that.

Back when I was a kid, I was pitted near a team Honda box van one day during the last days of Saddleback park on a Wednesday in 1984.

Bob showed up, rode a couple laps, came back to the pit and started yelling about how shitty, dry and dusty the track was, changed out of his gear and left.
Haha, I’m sure Hannah could get a little cranky at times…

Lake Oroville is a reservoir, so the water volume it can hold is the relevant stat since its primary function is water storage and flood control. It is very deep, that is why it can hold more water than Lake Winnebago for instance. The dam is the largest and tallest in the US (770 feet tall, 70 feet taller than Hoover Dam), like 7,000 feet long and half a mile wide at its base. Its massive. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oroville_Dam

We live just 2 miles from the northernmost boat launch, which is about a 25 minute drive from the Dam. The boat ramp shut down a month ago when the lake was over 200 vertical feet from full. The boat ramp was over a quarter of a mile long! Here is a pic from the middle fork of the lake about 6 weeks ago. The top of the rocks would be the lake full level. Nor Cal is not desert, we normally get a lot of rain in the winter, its just been a couple of unusually dry years in a row. Our well along with many others is starting to struggle and its only August. Dizzy Hoping we get dumped on this winter, otherwise this state is really big trouble (as if it weren't already).

At the rider's meeting at Budds, they said Hangtown received whatever permits they were waiting for so the race is ON.

JBlain, not sure where this information is coming from--there wasn't an actual riders' meeting at Budds Creek or any other recent national, Jeff Canfield has been doing them by video, and doesn't recall mentioning anything about Hangtown.

Hangtown was not awaiting any permits, it's been a go from the start, though this rumor keeps bubbling up, probably due to the recent local race being canceled for whatever reason. We will be at Hangtown on September 11 to finish out the 2021 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, and then back in 2022 for the opener.

I apologize...chapel service. I walked up late and thought it was the riders meeting. And he did mention it was a rumor that was floating around.

Ah, that makes more sense, and the rumor has certainly been out there, but it's 100% a go at Hangtown... Unless something wildly unexpected like a meteor strike of a crazy storm like the one that hit Middle Tennessee (though California could use the rain).

Wouldn't surprise me with drought, take a look at Lake Oroville, before and now.

Wisconsin DNR spokesperson James Dick said Wisconsin officially lists 15,074 lakes; however, Wisconsin also counts all lakes.

Data that Wisconsin provided to the KARE 11 Verify team shows the smallest named lake in the state is Moonshine Lake in Ashland County, near the town of Sanborn. It measures about two-tenths of an acre; or, put in perspective, about half the size of a regulation NHL hockey rink.

Minnesota, however, has a different definition for what counts as a lake, which still results in a higher number than our famous "10,000 Lakes."

"The difference is that the Minnesota DNR considers a lake to be 10 acres or more, of which we have 11,842," said Minnesota DNR spokesperson Julie Forster. "Wisconsin has no size limit. By their standard, Minnesota would have more than 20,000 lakes."

Minnesota also has more overall lake acreage compared to Wisconsin.

"Not counting the Great Lakes that comprise state borders, Minnesota has about 2.6 million acres of lakes," Forster said. "Wisconsin has about 1 million acres of lakes."

Minnesota's lakes also include hundreds of unnamed lakes across the state.

The Caldor Fire could have an impact with the dense smoke and falling ash. It's not pretty here right now.

Ultimately, it wasn't intended as a contest. The point was that no sane person would call either Winnebago or Oroville a "pond"
