I felt like he was a little arrogant with his statements of "offroaders never doing good in Moto".

I witnessed Ricky Deitrich, Bobby Garrison, Kurt Casselli, and Robby Bell all get top 20's in the 450 class outdoors, some got top 10's or better.

Maybe he was referring to GNCC guys? I think the west coast offroader's have had better luck, but it has happened.

Either way, major props to him for his career achievements, trying to race MX, would have liked to see him do the rest of the series after that crash.

The KR edition 350 is my current dream bike...

At least he had a shot at it. He said he was scared and timid on the track, great honesty. You can’t be racing and going for it, with feelings like that. Even my current job, if you fear death at all. You will never make it. Extremely dangerous junk equipment, call them out on installing wrong used brake components on equipment or fight to get your money . And you get 6 Chicago Russians in your face. I go threw this just to get a budget to race, pointless.

Fellas, let's all calm down, shall we? I believe there may have been some miscommunication here.

When you said that you have "way more respect for the man now...", I believe you were referring to Kailub's decision to pull the plug early, correct?

Well, it appears as though a few here took "the man" in your statement, as if you were referring to Roger Decoster (since his nickname has long been "The Man"), which would make it sound like you gained respect for Roger upon ousting Kailub from the team.

If I'm wrong about my assessment of your initial message, then by all means, simply ignore my post and get back to discussing the taste preferences each of you have for other men's balls.
You’re reading comprehension is spot on. 👍

Kailub said directly in the video that Roger called him up and said they'd need to re-evaluate.
He said he was pissed at first and the rest of the IG video he looked upset. Certainly you'd think the call from Roger should have been more supportive, and allowed Kailub to make the call himself if he chose to not finish the season.
Agree with other posters that the sales he generated for off-road for KTM should have been worth more respect from Roger and all of KTM.

Boomers never know when to quit. Especially when they're broke.

If he'd done the 450 instead of 250, and not had the Pala crash before the series started he'd probably be top 15 close to 10th like clockwork.

I was thinking the same as soon as he said that. Dietrich got top 5’s and scored 130+ points in two separate seasons.

From an outsiders perspective who doesn't know what really happened, it sours me on KTM. How are Webb and Marv doing? KTM good with their results?

So winning sx gets him a pass? If only Kailub won some other championships too to soften him not getting results in mx. Hey wait a minute

He wouldn't be close to top 10 in the field on a 450

I read what you said wrong then, I thought you meant you had more respect for Decoster.

Still not gonna lick your balls, I'll leave that to the Decoster fanboys Tongue

Sounds like there are a lot of off road peeps on this Moto Only forum. Maybe guyb can create a separate forum for you guys. Your sport has nothing in common with motocross as Kalieb proved.
Nothing in common? You obviously have nothing in common with a true motocross fan/racer. I suppose when Russell was running top 5 at Unadilla you would say say it was a mud race? Keep validating your own contradiction. Motocross has as much or more in common with off-road racing as it does supercross. You should go tell Plessinger that racing GNCCs practically his whole amateur career had nothing to do with where he ended up.

I agree. I didn't expect any more from him than I did Barry Hawk, Tucker Hibbert or Blair Morgan. All of whom impressed the shit out of me even though they barely if ever broke the top 10. Did they really expect him to win or top 5? That is not realistic. There is nothing about any track they have rode on that even remotely resembles a GNCC course. The fact they can moto hard, qualify and score national points against competition, privateer or not, that trains only in that discipline is freaking amazing. I was wanting to see him ride some more. He was only going to get better. I don't get it.
Do you really think he or anyone at KTM thought he could run with Jeremy Martin that has beaten RC and holds 2 national titles? The Hunter brothers and Justin Cooper on the top of their game? Get real! If that is what Roger was pushing for then he is a fucking dick! Qualifying, and scoring national points is amazing. I don't care who you are. If KTM, can't capitalize on who he is, what he has done and what he is doing for fulfillment of dreams then they need some PR help. His results don't matter. Why push results on him? Fuck KTM!
Very true, much like the way they didn’t take advantage of the the hype around Brownie when he was doing double duty in MX and off-road/enduro cross all at the same time. He laid the path for what Sipes is doing now and hopefully more will follow suit. Those guys are rare to be able to cross over… you mentioned Barry Hawk? What did I miss?

So the new "in-thing" to do is to shit on Roger DeCoster, got it!

As for Kailub, he gave it a shot and it didn't pan out which is a bummer. I'm sure the big crash in the pre-season was a major part of that.

The local MX race is 300 riders and 20% KTM. Your local GNCC/WORCS/NGPC is 1000 riders and 50% KTM. KR probably bought them the building they’re in. The appropriate conversation would have been- “KR, you just have a good time and let us know when you’re done. Do we need to do more testing?” Honda used to think their shit didn’t stink either, now they can’t buy a tittle.

Look at the field Ricky was racing in vs the field now. Not exactly “stacked”

You gotta wonder what great "going away gift" Musquin's gonna get next year.
A warm handshake?

The way I took the video was that racers lie to themselves as to why the next race will be better than the last. Roger's call was a wake up call, and it made KR really think and realize he was mentally done with racing.

i watched a mid pack B rider hold him off for 3 laps back in April at Chad Reeds track. I knew then it would be a long summer for him. Props for trying though.

You're only going to enrage them more by engaging in common sense. They've finally found the perfect vehicle to vent their red-hot anger at DeCoster and KTM, and it's come in the form of Kailub Russell. One look at all these strangely volcanic posts will tell you - they're not going to curb their hate-filled momentum now. I've read the whole thread, unfortunately, and as near as I can figure, Mister Russell should be given the entire company for his heroic, stalwart, efforts over these many years, and Mister DeCoster should be thrown in jail for wanton fraud dating all the way back to 1968.

Agree and submit - or face the fury of the riotous mob.

Roger's boss Pit Bierer would have had a say in it.

It's a business first.

I think Kailub's crash and injury were too much to overcome. Looking back he should have just skipped this season and tried to prep for 2022. But KTM probably would not have granted that option.

Whatever Roger told him seemed to create massive self-doubt instead of motivating him. Sad.

Probably better not to do videos like that when you are emotional. In a few months (or less), he will have a different mindset I would think.

The guy is an amazing rider and would have done well if the injury didn't happen. The 250 was not the right choice for him though.

This is the only thread in recent memory that has had any Roger criticism at all. This forum is basically an online fan club for “The Man.”

I don’t care how successful someone is, if you do something dumb you should not be immune from criticism

I know he is a champion, and he probably wanted a lot more from himself, but MX is a different animal.

Funny story. When I rode for KTM in 2000 I didn’t even get going before injury. I had two shoulder surgeries before joining the year at Southwick in the nationals. I SUCKED. No need to look it up. I was lying to myself, like Kalib said. The last race of the year that year Shane Watts joined the races. He was killing it in off road for KTM. He started racing the 125cc class at a couple races before I jumped in with KTM’s support. With all due respect to Shane and the entire community of off road racers, one of the smaller goals I had was to not let Shane beat me with his bark busters and water bag on his chest protector. That would have added so much more crappiness to my already crappy year.

I know Shane would have destroyed me in off road. But MX is just a different. We both were in the 30’s somewhere after crashing my brains out all day.

Crazy the things you remember all these years later.

The highlight of my entire offroad and moto career was passing Shane one year at Okeechobee GNCC starting from the B class and being inside the top 20 on the last lap. I passed him in a set of sand whoops. I ended up knocking myself out on the last lap and being carted back in a mule. After the race I was laying on the ground underneath the Yamaha semi. Shane walked over and asked where the stupid kid was that passed him in the whoops. Mike G from Yamaha just pointed to me laying on the ground. He came over and told me "You're either really talented or really stupid being able to go that fast past me in the whoops. Probably both".

Yeah and KR won 8 consecutive championships in the biggest race series in America, maybe in the world? Does any other series even come close to pulling the consistent entries that GNCC does?

Decoster has jumped the shark. I hope like hell they can get him out of being involved with MXDN sooner than later too. "The Man" has really always been overrated, laughable how folks have hung on his nuts all these years....he's just like Aldon....he wins championships with guys that would have won anyway....Change my mind.

"A mind is a terrible thing to waste." As would be the effort spent trying to change yours.
