So there you go, it's not some $17 burger nightmare, it's a small increase, probably 6.99 or maybe 7.49 if not having to pay CA rent and benefits.

Us WPa people are well known for our work ethic and are actually highly sought after in many industries in other parts of the country. We aren’t afraid of busting ass to get ahead, and I get disgusted by people taking these handouts instead of wanting to put in an honest 40 hours, or lobbying to essentially double the minimum wage for entry-level jobs. F******* pathetic
Has it eliminated their middle class?
But in all seriousness, a 15-17hr minimum wage certainly has the POTENTIAL to lessen the gap . It's only common mathematics, raising the bottom wages and reducing the middles "buying" power, does what exactly??? I'll give you in minute or two to break out the calculator or count on your fingers if you must
I am not saying it would not effect the price of some goods. But you also have neglected to factor in the impact the lower class having more disposable income has on certain sectors. more people spending more money
has the POTENTIAL to impact many businesses. it's only common economic understanding....feel free to use those fingers and toes that you recommended haha.
I was just pointing out that in other countries it has not destroyed the middle class.
Beyond that I don't care, you guys do what is right for you maybe thats raising minimum wage, maybe it's not. Pros and cons to everything. economies are very complicated things.
But there is plenty of evidence that it wont destroy the middle class
Have a nice evening Old pro
As far as buying power, the fed printing money and giving it to banks is arguably a greater threat to inflation.
The raise prices and their customers pay 100% of the increase.
And if so many employees werent such pieces of shit that would be ok. But right now you have to hire druggies and pay them big and they dont show up.
So what you’re saying here for sure makes sense to me.
Pit Row
As JP says, “it’s envy masquerading as compassion”.
Context is key. Especially when comparing countries. It’s often a false equivalency. What you think is working in another part of the world might not be feasible here or might not even be actually working like you think it does.
No doubt all have their own economic challenges, however fair to say all have healthy middle classes. .
Now I am not saying that the higher minimum wage is better or worse. I was just pointing out the fact that a higher minimum wage does not necessarily mean "eliminating the middle class"
There is also quite a bit of academic research done on the topic.
Canada has the population of California yet the natural resources proportionate to it’s huge size. Not even comparable to America. Nor would I consider Canada a “working” society as they’re slipping hard into the perils of socialism. So much so they want to tax the equity in people’s homes and ruin the middle classes retirement savings.
France? Lol. Are you aware they still collect 14 billion a year from their former colonies in Africa? That’s free money they didnt earn - thry dont deserve credit for. And tbh, the French economy sucks. I think I read 60% of the population works for the state? Not a good comparison to America.
Switzerland? Lol. I used to live 15 min from there. It’s expensive as hell and wouldn’t be solvent if it wasnt the world’s tax haven (ironically hiding $ from socialism).
Norway... like Canada, huge natural resource output in relation to it’s population size. Cant even compare to America when the enviro nazis ruin our ability to follow their model.
England? Ha. I think their middle class has been destroyed thanks to their lockdowns. Another brilliant byproduct of too much government.
Sorry but on principle alone, literally everything the government does, the private sector does better - and that especially includes setting market value. If someone’s only worth $5 an hour, then that’s what they’re worth. Entitlement wont change that fact. Only thing that changes their value is a person’s productivity or demand of their talent. Nobody making min wage is talented. And paying them more wont increase their productivity. Messing with that formula to artificially create a better middle class isnt going to function properly in the US. Nor do I think it works elsewhere without huge drawbacks - ie socialism.
Closer on the political spectrum than the US? sure, but still nowhere near socialist.
And I was only referring to "eliminating the middle class"
All countries i mentioned have a high percentage of the population classed as middle income earners.
Here is a chart from the Pew research center, granted it is old.
https://www.pewresearch.org/global/2017/04/24/middle-class-fortunes-in-…
You said 60% of french workers work for the gov? I looked it up, its 20%....very high yes, but Alaska, Oklahoma, hawaii, West Virginia, Montana and Alabama are all also above 20%, and the US in general is 14% so whilst still a lot different, nowhere near as different as you stated.
I never said the US should become socialist, I never even said the US should raise the minimum wage, I just said a higher minimum wage does not eliminate the middle class, both the academic research and real world data from other developed western civilizations support my statement.
So if you want the same results, it’s a full send shift to socialism. And yes all those countries you mentioned are socialist. And that comes with it’s own baggage.
But if you need further proof on how leftist economics wont work in America, just take a look at places like California, where the middle class is the vast minority. Most of America wants ZERO to do with how California is run in any fashion. It’s failing. It doesnt help the middle class. It just creates glass ceilings for the lower middle class.
Btw, careful where the stats come from. France doesnt count many on the government payroll in their official statistics. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thelocal.fr/20140423/one-in-five-frenc…
My numbers could be off as well. But the point is, their government is bloated - that much is fact.
This all started when I asked Oldpro if a higher minimum wage eliminated the middle class in other countries.
my point stands, it did not do that in any of the aforementioned countries. this is a simple fact.
But as to whether they are socialist or not, I am sorry but they are categorically not socialist. That is not an opinion, They are just not.
All have free markets, the government or people do not collectively own the means of production, nor do they set the levels of production, or distribute the output to the people.
none of the countries listed above fit the description, nor do they self identify as socialist.
Do they have some socialist policies? sure, but so does every country, US included (albeit less than most)
Come on man, do you really think Australia is socialist? SMH

If someone wants to make more than $10/hr the solution is really simple - develop a skill & work your ass off. Ask any employer out there and they’ll tell you how desperate they are to find people that want to work.
And by work I mean more than just show up. But actually work and show some ambition.
Everyone wants a nice salary, do you release how hard it is to find someone willing to earn it? I have multiple living wage entry positions available at my company. In one interview I was actually asked by a 20 yr old, “how hard am I gonna have to work?” .... this was for a 50k/yr starting salary, fully paid 6 month training program (zero experience needed), plus I’d pay his rent. And I told him by 6 months he’d get a 25% raise, with an aggressive raise schedule after that and a clear pathway into management training.
You cant really appreciate how entitled people are until you’ve ran companies and gone thru employee hire after hire. It leaves you pretty jaded towards those complaining about minimum wage.
For fucks sake, I was earning $10/hr doing manual labor as a teenager. If you dont graduate from that to the next level in life by the time adulthood starts hitting you with bills, you earned the negative consequences that come with it.
I recently had an employee who had to quit because his wife was making him sleep in the front yard (quarantine) every day except Sunday afternoon. Otherwise he wasnt allowed in the house. That went on for about 9 months. The shit wore on him and he eventually had to quit to save his marriage. It’s such a ridiculous fucking scenario it’s hard to believe. Yet here we are. A good worker that was on pace to make 100k (after taxes) in his first year with me. Yet he was able to walk away from that job like it was nothing. My point? People that dont value work/opportunity, dont get to complain that their work isnt valued.
Right now our current WPS packaging is not the same thickness as what we have always used but we have had to temporarily go with a thinner 2 mil plastic bag instead of 3 mil but by doing this we have finally started filling WPS back orders.
FYI With the packaging we have been experiencing we are doing a 100% redesign on packaging and expecting the new design in roughly another 45-60 days.
This is basically what our new packaging front will look like with no more clear bags with stapled on header card. With the new design every bag will be heat sealed. The great will be clear.
As for your definition of socialism versus mine. You described full scale communism. Which is the eventual goal of socialism, admitted by the founders themselves!
I dont want the government controlling (or owning the means of production. And when they set the wages i must pay, they’re doing just that. All their beuracracy has ever done is stifle productivity. They dont solve problems, they end up creating new ones.
Raising minimum wage in America hurts us and comparisons to other cultures arent relevant unless you wanna compare apples to apples.
The better comparison is US states versus other US states. Look at the quality of life in the states that have leaned harder into leftist policies - it hasn’t improved, it’s gotten drastically worse.
