Fork adjuster under handlebar

Edited Date/Time 6/20/2021 11:15am
This might be a stupid question, especially from one who have ridden dirtbikes for many years. But does anyone have a certain technique for adjusting their fork compression if the adjuster is right below the handlebar?
Yes, it is doable, but the adjuster screw is definately gonna get chewed up after a while.
Yz250f in particular
Thanks

Is there enough clearance to use a dime or a penny?

I have zero room on my bike. Didn't think of the dime or penny idea. Might try that.

I had Zeta adjusters on back order at a dealer, but a friend told me that they don’t “click” when you make adjustments, so I cancelled my order.

I was going to get some as well until I asked on here and was told the same. That Race Tech tool looks nice.

This was so wickedly confusing for me because of OP's screen name.

Those racetech things are the move, or pull the bars off. Pretty much without something flat like that, it’s just gonna be a real cocksucker to get at quickly

Grind end of small flat blade screwdriver down so you can come in from side with tip to get on slot of adjuster.

Anex Slim Offset Screwdriver set. Part no. 6102. Made in Japan JIS spec. Comes with flat+no.2&3 . They come in handy removing carb floatbowl screws while on bike and the flat fits under handlebar if forks are not raised to high.

the aluminum tip on that racetech adjuster gets ruined pretty fast. when mine was no longer working I made one. crude looking but has a steel tip.

my grandson has appropriated my YZ 125 with Showa A Kit forks. with the handlebar in the position he likes there is No way to get a screw driver on the adjusters. do you think Racetech (and I) would be making tools for this just to kill time?

That Racetech tool would be great.

$13.99 to buy it, and they want $18.00 to ship it to me in Colorado.

That's an issue on most Yamaha's I've owned...with the bars in the forward position they are directly over the adjuster screw...super annoying...

Honestly, I can't believe we still need a screw driver to adjust clickers (fuel injection, e start, "on the fly" map changes, traction control....but get out an Allen wrench, move/remove your handlebars, get out a screw driver just to adjust the clickers)...it seems incredibly unnecessary, especially when its so simple to, well, do what KTM does...

Enzo has some really nice adjuster wheels that are mounted by Allen screws. I had some on a pair of forks I bought off eBay. The picture on their site isn’t very good but they are machined to have an opening to bleed the forks. They drill and tap a small hole in the adjuster screw and mount them. The wheels have a screwdriver tip that fits into the adjustment screw and the Allen head screw is right in the middle of it.

Not even KTM (WP) do it well on everything, their cone valve forks still require a flat blade for clicker adjustments up top.

That looks like the hot ticket. I guess I’m going to have to book a flight to California to visit mom and dad. That’s how I’ll dodge that pricy shipping fee!

Or just buy it from RMATV?

I got curious and started searching. Might be a little long but worth a look. $5 at Lowe’s and looks to be regularly stocked.

Too tall. I’ve tried it (along with the low profile right angled screw driver set from Amazon. Looks like the Race Tech tool will be added to my tool kit soon.

KTM doesn't have a Cone Valve fork. That's WP. I'll bet that if KTM had CVs on their bikes, they would spec an adjuster for it from WP like what comes on the AER.

I use this. Bones gave me a couple back in the day. It’s basically the same thing as the Race Tech tool, and it works good for that application. Don’t know if Pro Circuit still has them or not.
